  1. Hi guys,

I ordered a PE4L from harmonic inversion a few days ago and payment has since cleared, though still no updates of when they will ship it out (status is still "pending"). Anyone have experience with harmonic inversions shipping times?

Well I'm in the same situation, mine says:

    Order Date: Monday, 20 May 2013 14:01

    Order Status: Pending

I'm pretty disappointed since I needed the adapter for work :(

EDIT: I also emailed them twice two weeks ago, no answer.

  2. My vaio SVZ have two mpcie port , one with a mpcie host , the other with a usb host.

I'm using the first for the egpu , but the second should be used for a wifi card , with usb host.

But i'm losing BT with the egpu , so i'm asking if it's possible to put a wifi+ bluetooth card with a pcie host and use the MM2U. Do you know if it's possible ? If the MM2U can support a half mpcie card with wifi and buletooth and with an mpcie host (like centrino 6235) and can support the usb host of the motherboard ? I'm asking the uestion with this picture :

    [ATTACH=CONFIG]7799[/ATTACH]

If it's not possible , do you know if i can use this card : KZ-B34-USB (USB to MiniCard Extender) , and add this one : Clé USB Bluetooth 3.0 + wifi | LINDY France ?

    Thanks a lot :)

I'm having the same problem as you (occupying the only mPCIe-slot with ePGU), so I ordered this mPCIe-wlan card that uses only USB-interface. Too bad it doesn't have BT, but I'm pretty sure I'll outperform any regular USB-WIFI since it is using the internal antennas. I can't tell if works yet since I'm still waiting for it to arrive.

    Cheers!

PS. If you find any other internal card that have WLAN+BT, please post =)

  3. Hi,

    I made it this way:

Slowly cut the seperate wires and mark them with numbers, each wire on both ends gets a matching number for later.

Solder each end to a HDMI Port, then place the hdmi port somewhere reachable on the laptop.

I have a caddy in my DVD bay to hold a second Hard Drive, there was some space and now it looks like I have a

    additional HDMI slot.

Now I just hook both ends together with a HDMI cable.

Nice job, please upload some pictures. I guess you're limited to Gen1 speed?

    -----------------------------------

Also I found this PCIe-gen2-extender, that could do it with some modification?

  4. And if the goal is simply a longer cable and you haven't yet purchased it, I can confirm that the 2m variants work correctly at PCIe 2.0 speeds. If I recall correctly, even a single connector on the cable causes speeds to drop to PCIe 1.x due to signal reflections.

FWIW there are connectors you could use for PCIe speeds, but they're phenomenally expensive: here

Has anyone confirmed the cost of these connections yet?

    Pretty interesting!

    Edit: Saw this?

  5. Hi guys. So here is another update regarding Lenovo E530 + GTX 660:

I managed to do the DSDT override since my TOLUD was 3.49GB and no "large memory" were available.

So the huge pain in the ass is to have my eGPU overcome "code 12". I've tried almost every different PCI compaction method but still no luck.

Let's say that my PCI compaction were successful, can I verify that by looking in setup 1.x using NVflash or something else?

My eGPU never shows up in NVflash and that seems shady.

I would really appreciate some help here!

  6. ...Then power the eGPU, hotplug the PM3N and hit F5 and fingers crossed the eGPU will appear.

Here is an update: I change my old 7900GTX to a GTX 660. First I was really confused since setup 1.x ran the old card at full fan speed all the time while the fans of the GTX 660 is in a more of a "idling" state (which seems more normal to me).

I manage to install standard VGA adapter and after that the GTX 660, to finally encounter code 12 (which I expected because of my TOLUD ~3.5GB).

Since I don't see (or have?) the large memory bus and non of the PCI compactions were successful (since NVflash doesn't find the card?), my conclusion is that I have to implement the DSDT-override?

  7. Firstly confirm unplugging then replugging the wifi card sees it being detected in Setup 1.x when you hit F5. Then power the eGPU, hotplug the PM3N and hit F5 and fingers crossed the eGPU will appear..

Omg there was a little piece of protection film left on my PM3N, I feel like an stupid idiot right now!

Anyway, by "hot-swapping" like you said setup 1.x now recognizes my 7900GTX, NICE!

Also learned that the whitelist is for real when I got a hold of a wlan-card from another computer. System halted and promted something like 'un-authorized wifi-card'.

So what do we do from here? I've tried different allocation methods with no luck.

(My goal with this current setup is to have the pe4l recognized and installed by windows, I will then purchase an 670GTX to combine with my XBOX psu)

  8. The 100% accurate method of getting around mPCIe whitelisting AND the CLKRUN signal starting by the PM3N is:

    1. Boot the system with the wifi card in the mPCIe slot into Setup 1.x. That should ensure the bios enables the port correctly.

    2. While system is active, *carefully* unplug the wifi card, power on the eGPU and hotplug the PM3N end into the mPCIe slot. If you line it up right there is no chance of shorting anything. This ensures the CLKRUN signal on the PM3N starts when there is a device on the PCIe bus..

    Hi Nando.

So I tried your instructions: Boot setup 1.x with WLAN-card, "hot-swapped" with my PE4L2.1b-PM060A, and nothing gets detected.

Maybe there is some basics that I don't know regarding the eGPU setup?

EDIT: Good to know is that I'm using an old but functional 7900GT before buying something fancier.

    1. Which leds should light up on the pe4l?

    2. What settings should I use for SW1/SW2?

    3. Should "OS detection for switchable graphics" be enabled in BIOS (which I currently have enabled)

Side note: When I laborated and booted up setup 1.x with iGPU+dGPU I disabled the dGPU from there and manage to free up 512MB (which otherwise states 64MB when booting iGPU only). I don't know if this means anything but it didn't freeze when restoring port 2 when doing it this way.

I went for a hunt looking for some anti WL bios with no luck, if you know where to look just let me know =)

  9. A safer variation of this step would be to set the PM3N delay switch, plug the PM3N in then power on the eGPU before the countdown reaches zero (6.9s or so).

When speaking of SW1 and SW2 of the PE4L-PM060A I'm a bit confused. I can see that SW2 provides two modes of delay (?) and the two modes of SW1 I'm not sure of?

I hope my questions are somewhat readable =)

  10. We had another E530 owner who gave up on this project due to his concerns over hotplugging the PM3N into the live system

Trust me Nando, I don't care if the computer blow up so lets get this working =)

But I will not be able to try this until to night. I'll keep you updated!

  11. What does running 'setpci -s 0:1f.0 2.w' at the Setup 1.x DOS prompt return? Running this on a HP 2570P returns 1e55 which is the QM77 Series-7 chipset as derived from a lookup of c:\core\intel.txt:
    [DOS prompt] C:\setpci -s 0:1f.0 2.w
    1e55

    .

Alright so now the setup 1.x recognizes my chipset at least.

My first thought was, and still is that, my mPCIE wlan port is whitelisted so I went through the anti-whitelisting procedure.

    1. Booted setup 1.x with the "whitelisted" wlan card in its original port 2.

    2. Made a save: mPcie -> !Save -> Port 2.

    3. Restarted and entered setup 1.x with PE4L2.1b-mPcie attached in port 2 and eGPU running.

    4. Enabled port 2 (wlan port).

    5. Entered the "restore port 2". Then nothing happens, this is what is see.

This laptop might be a dead end for an eGPU :(

Also saw that my TOLUD was 3.49 GB, but it shouldn't stop the system from recognizing it? (it should be the next problem to solve).

    1e55

    Hi Nando.

    "C:\setpci -s 0:1f.0 2.w" returned: 1e57.

Hmm the update didn't install in the right path!

Let me come back to you Nando =)

  13. Link works fine. Try downloading with another browser and/or from another IP address.

The link magically started working this morning (same IP, same browser) =)

However, setup x.1 still promts "[ichip] unknown intel chipset found."

I know that I my lenovo e530 has a HM77, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

  14. If your X220 is a Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge version, which means it support PCI 2.0, go for the PE4L version !

With the PE4L a X1.2 opt setup is just as powerful as the PE4H X4 setup.

    Hi guys !

I'm so excited my new eGPU setup is now finally working !

You may have read my message before and I was wrong none of my GPU was dead, but the PE4L was no longer working. I still don't know why it didn't work, I notice a wire, on the PE4L had been torn out but I've re soldered it and it didn't make any change. I've investigated the PM3N of the PE4L and when I've removed the sleeve it torn at least 3 wires and I could resolder one of them. So I've order a new PE4L which was a bit reworked compared to my first PE4L 2.1b. There is a new jump somewhere on the PM3N and it is no longer necessary to make the jump ourself.

So here is my setup :D

    - Sony SV-Z1311C5E 8Gb i7 3612QM @ always running at 2.8 Ghz.

    - PE4L-PM060A 2.1b

    - XBOX 360 PSU mod

    - ZOTAC GTX 660 Ti AMP! 2Gb

    And Windows 8 64 bit !

I'd be glad to do some benchmarks but 3DMark 06 keep make the computer freezing.... I've googled it and it seems to be related to futuremark system analyser... So other 3DMark might be affected too.

I couldn't try it much, I've made it working few minutes ago and could just try borderlands 2 on internal LCD. Which work just as expected :).

I'll keep you updated with pictures and benchmarks !

    Firt of all, nice job!

I really hope to see some benchmarks later on if you figure out the problem with 3dMark =)

My future setup will look similar to yours, I also have the 3612qm.

Do you obtain any performance gain when locking the cpu at 2.8GHz or is it due to some lag issues when throttling?

  15. Thanks for the clarification.

Well, for some reason it works flawlessly now, really fast, etc.

tbh, I re-arranged it to the above but was never able to test (had to go to class), I just stated the issues I had before I re-arranged it. Glad to see it was this easy of a fix.

I think I will stick with this instead of trying to perform the DSDT method. My DSDT file is chock full of errors, and even with various guides I cannot find how to fix them, Setup 1.x is good enough for me!

I'll stick around and hope to help others (hopefully), thanks for your help nando.

    Congratulations!

Do you mind posting your spec. and results?

Then Nando could put you up on the "news" list at page 1!

  16. i have read it and i know that not every motherboard need sutpx1. but not found my hp dv6 and i will buy new GPU and to be safe i want this program first

I see, so your question is if you will need setup x1 or not?

Post your laptop model here and so that I can check your specifications.

  17. A much better name for me to know who I'm chatting to.

Last time I measured one, a XBOX 360 PSU was about the length of a NVidia video card but thinner. However, the the special end connector cable made it wider than then the video card.. It looks like you are electronically minded, so you can have a look at the innards of a XBOX360 203W PSU from allen pan's awesome eGPU work where he attached directly to the internals. See: [show OFF] External Universal GPU (Day0) | In the center of life's Whirlpool.

    Thanks man!

I'll have to say his work is impressive (also looked at the HTPC build!). I'll keep you updated (I'll certainly have some questions along the way) of my project. Right now I need to finish up my master thesis work =)

Meanwhile, I'll try to contribute with answers in this thread.

  18. Wish you luck. The Inspiron 1545 with 4500MHD iGPU is what you want so can do a x1.Opt implementation, eg: GTX460. If hers has the ATI HD4330 discrete graphics then it too is no good to you for the same reasons why the 5738G is no good - no x1.Opt or x2 are possible on it.

Hi nando, I've made a real account (no longer the facebook "Ivar Af Oring"). Just so you know!

I've been thinking about what you said about the cons using an xbox360-203w ac. It should possible to "strip" it down to make it slimmer in order to fit it in a smaller case?

This will be my new approach.
