US$189 AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box (16Gbps-TB2)
jacobsson replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
I completely agree , that price point takes us back where we once started, very disappointing The eGPU 2.0 members should even get a lower price (at least the old $199) since we are contributing to the development of the product. -
Good thing is that I only see a max draw of 175W, so I can definitely up my clocks a bit and still stay in the DA-2 220W -limit =)
-
If we compare GPU scores to my TB1 @10Mbps, 'regular' clocked Zotac GTX 970: Core clock 1,076 MHz vs 1,314 MHz Memory bus clock 1,753 MHz vs 1,853 MHz (You totally kick my ass) 3Dmark06: Result Total of 24% higher 3Dmark Vant: Result 21% higher GPU score 3Dmark11: Result 35% higher GPU score Fire Strike (11472 vs. 8872) 29% higher GPU score EDIT: Is it possible that you can make a power measurement during Fire Strike to see how much power your card peaks?

Not bad, then there you go

EXP GDC Beast/Ares-V7/V6 discussion
jacobsson replied to jacobsson's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Hmm.. I'd probably just use the ATX adapter + 2 x 6pin straight to the GPU. -
@davide445 Can you post the links to your results so that I can have a look? Yes your scores seems a little weak, but I can only find one 7950 on the leaderboard though ( @chiknnwatrmln ). thanks!
-
@davide445 Good job buddy, happy to that you solved it!
-
@davide445 Are using the external screen output (attached to the eGPU) when benchmarking?
-
Hmm that's strange! And you run win 8.1 too? I just connected the display and waited ~10s for it to automatically install show my desktop.

@davide445 Is there any BIOS option for gen2 expresscard speed? I had that option on my 2570p. If not then consider buying setup 1.3 from @Tech Inferno Fan to force it.

EXP GDC Beast/Ares-V7/V6 discussion

Hi buddy. Are you saying you don't have the ATX adapter cable? Some users have been feeding the EXP GDC via the 6pin power output, so yes 3 x 6pin would be required in your case but I suggest getting the cable above instead. -
Yeah, that's the DA-2 I'm using! What GPU are you planning on? - - - Updated - - - This is what my table looks like ATM, turns out my setup works as it should =)

US$189 AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box (16Gbps-TB2)
jacobsson replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Yep same here, sound still running, no GPU activity. Even my PSU is turned off due to something strange happening from the GPU. I might consider clocking down to that sweet spot if necessary (since I will only use the limit of my DA-2), I really like the card so far! Thank you for helping me with the power measurements. -

Waaaat, it crashes for you too, can you explain how it crashed for you? This means that our cards are probably fine and this is most likely a driver issue. Funny how we see +210W on a card speculated to TDP @146W? =) EDIT: And you just answered my 'does it power with riser + no Akitio PSU' -question, thanks again! -
What PCIe power connectors does each of your 760's require? @entzoe @Slovedon

@Slovedon The pattern here seems to be that high end cards draw less from the slot itself while lower end does the opposite , your card seems to follow this logic too.

@Dschijn Doing both sounds great! -
@Slovedon To me this sounds like the card doesn't get power from the slot since the fans are not spinning. You don't happen to have a powered riser?

@jcagara08 Damn crazy stuff, must say I like it! I currently don't have nice setup, it looks more like a disaster of electronics atm I can of course upload some photos of the current state if you'd like. EDIT: Yeah the scores are pretty nice, but I have sort out my power issues before considering any OC, I think my problem lies in the power to slot itself, maybe the 900-series is more 'PCIe slot hungry' than current generation? I have some time later tonight to look at it.

Thanks man! So you're are running both AkiTio 12V 5.5/2.5mm PSU (for akitio board) and ATX (for the GPU + riser)? I guess all you need to do is to put them on the same power strip, then power strip to the wattmeter. This could help me tremendously. EDIT: Oh and please look extra careful at the power consumption during Sky Dive demo, mine crashes right after she lands and enter the cave: -

Is there any chance you have wattmeter to measure a 3DMARK13 test for me? I'm currently in the struggle finding out what causes power failure for that particular test. Thanks a lot mate! -

I have had this noise on all my NVIDIA GTX -cards 660/670/970. As you point out it's mostly during benchmark tests. I remember the first time noticing the sound, thought that my card was faulty so I changed it, but the sound turned out to be normal. The replacement card I got had a little less noise and a little less performance, so now I'm expecting a little buzz in the card to know it's a good one =) Ever since I started using an enclosure the sound never bothered me though. So how much noise is coming from the AkiTio compared to the GPU? I'm still waiting for my box to dispatch. -
EXP GDC Beast/Ares-V7/V6 discussion
jacobsson replied to jacobsson's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Hi buddy, I'm really sorry for my late reply! I have to admit I'm a bit hung over atm... The important part is that you end up with 12V on the lower row and GND on the upper row, do you have a multimeter to check? I would never test the cable live w/o double/triple check it with multimeter: 1. Check that all lower rows are 12V 2. Check all upper rows are GND 3. Check all GND's are not connected to any 12V (you will get GND connected to GND, that's alright) Nice job btw!
