  1. If the charger is rated 19V you'll destroy your graphics card and more! If it's rated 12V you can use it.
  2. @AGG Hi buddy! Sorry for my short answer (on a train using my phone). Most of your Q's are answered in the first post. I'd listen to @Brom 's advice buying the DA-2 inside Germany.
  3. Du är den första svensken i forumet jag sett sedan jag började med eGPU-projekt, välkommen (Sorry for the Swedish guys)
  4. I'm pretty sure I'd overheat within minutes during load. Drilled holes for air will most certainly be needed, or simply just use the outer shell for transport protection, which is not a bad idea at all!
  5. @skyldig Sorry to hear that buddy! You don't happen to be Swedish? =)
  6. @Tech Inferno Fan Actually @Slovedon would be able to answer this, he has both the Zotac 970 and the Akitio box atm.
  7. I think it would overheat within minutes. Holes needs to be drilled I'm afraid.
  8. @Tech Inferno Fan The Zotac GTX 970 205mm seems to be at the tightest fit in the akitio box.
  9. I've now got my self a 500W (3 x 12V@18A) ATX PSU for testing, everything runs smoothly now, tested Metro:LL for ~45min, no problem there. Sooooo, what's up with the DA-2? I suspect there is some kind of voltage drop of the DA-2 during turbo-boost on the GTX970, would some capacitors be able to smooth things out in the 12V lines maybe? I'm still determined that the DA-2 will be my main power source for the Akitio so now it's just a matter of troubleshooting. I'm thankful for any suggestions how to fix the voltage drop!
  10. Hi Buddy! So you're looking to get the EXP GDC V7 from here I assume? The Yoybuy package includes EXP GDC V7 (also called ARES V7) DA-2 PSU 6-pin power split cable Expresscardcable / mPCIe data cable (depending on choice) And that's all you need if you're planning on using the DA-2 as PSU. The DA-2 should be sufficient for the GTX980, but I'd check the TDP carefully on benchmarking reviews first so that your brand of choice is staying within the 220W limit.
  11. Yes, I also got a 460W PSU from a Dell server but with the same result. I got my card replaced yesterday and the new card is equally problematic. I tested with new memory modules, no change. I really think it's NVIDIA's drivers that is the problem.
  12. My claims regarding underclocking the core is false, I get VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE in just a few minutes of running Metro: Last light. There is only one option left: RMA.
  13. Yeah, I figure the power limit is very tight. I'll test increasing the limit and restore the factory (incorrect) OC and see if it works better, makes sense? The log shows that the incorrect boost is achieved w/o problems several times during the test and then crashes the x th time. Thanks for your help!
  14. Hi Buddy, had any more freeze / Crashes / Black screen problems with your GTX970? I certainly had, especially in Sky Diver Demo and Metro:last light! I spent some days analyzing my problem and found that the problem is the video card, not the driver or other hardware. Using GPU-Z and logging the GPU activity (core / mem / temp / fan in the sensor tab) I found that my card has got a incorrect factory clock. By examining the log-file from GPU-Z I found that my card runs at: 1125MHz / 1265MHz (standard / boost), after reaching boost for a couple of seconds = hard crash! Correct standard clocks for my card should be: 1076MHz / 1216MHz (standard / boost), This is an OC of 49MHz, I know I doesn't sound like much but consider what happens with OC w/o raising the power limit and other parameters. Anyway, I down clocked the core to stock values (-49MHz) with MSI Afterburner and logged Sky Diver (3 times back-to-back) = no crash / BSOD / Black screen. The log file now shows a correct MAX boost of 1216MHz. Ran all 3DMARK-test, no problems so far! I'll run Metro: Last light for an hour tonight and report back, if this pass then I consider the problem fixed. I've also e-mailed ZOTAC and ask them for an immediate release of a correct clocked VBIOS.
  15. What exact card are you using? Your GPU-score is sick
  16. Did it sound something like this? Or something like this? All my cards has made this sound under load. Is this normal?
  17. Hi Johnny, welcome to the EXP GDC thread! Your is issue seems to be more of a PCI space / compation problem, the good thing here is that it seems like your EXP GDC is working. Now since I don't have any first hand experience of Macbook eGPU my self I would recommend you to ask the question in the main thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2109-diy-egpu-experiences-%5Bversion-2-0%5D.html I assume you've already looked in the troubleshooting guide here? The first thing to test is to make a DSDT override, it also well described in the link above. Worst case scenario might be that you need the Setup 1.x from @Tech Inferno Fan to overcome this error. I hope this can help you get started!
  18. Wait whaat, you have the metal enclosure now? A lot of pics pleaseeeeee
  19. In device manager, does it report that your GTX 970 works properly?
  20. @Slovedon Could you take some more photos of the enclosure and card installed? Thanks man!
  21. @Slovedon Don't give up just yet, I remember not having that chip either! Follow my instructions added for installation for a try. See first post Edit: Yeeeea it fits!
  22. Oh I didn't know the demos gave scores?! Are you using the full version or demo version of 3Dmark?
  23. @c22 Could you make a run of the sky dive demo in 3dmark13 for me? I have constant crashes right when she enters the cave. Thanks buddy!
  24. @hamaki55 I'll update the main post with your information so others can find more easily. Good job!
