  1. No actually the PE4L shouldn't have to have a separate 5V, but you never know it sounds like your gpu takes more power than stated. Please report back as soon as you tested!
  2. I have the v6.0 and will put out a write-up for it soon! It's better than PE4L in all practical aspects, performance-wise they're equal.
  3. 1. Are you powering the PE4L with 5V via usb (besides the AC-adapter for PCI-slot)? (like this dude) 2. You don't happen to have a desktop pc to check your GPU? 3. If you read on the adapter, does it say 12v 8A, just so the seller didn't just send you a ~80W 19.5V adapter or something? 4. Also, do any led on the PE4L light up when connecting the ac-plug? The reason I really don't think you could have fried something is because the PE4L wants 12V (and 5V) and your GPU wants 12V, so if the AC-adapter is rated 12V you can't really burn something. The only thing logical test left for you now is of course to power your PE4L and GPU from a desktop PSU using floppy cable, SWEX and 6pin PCI-E power. The result would then reveal if your PE4L/GPU are still healthy. EDIT: Oh and one more thing, some AC-adapters seem to have a remote/connect handshake pin that requires GND to power on. This could be elaborated on later!
  4. Thanks, nice reading! Seems like some people had more than 3-4 FPS increase in different DX11 games, for me that counts like significant increase (especially on the min fps). " Tested Hitman Absolution, the only one I remember 334.89 -> 72fps 337.50 -> 79.randomdecimal fps And I have my frames capped at 80, so this is just brilliant!"
  5. Hi Amad! Sorry to hear that. When you say sparks, you meant from the wall socket right? Does the GPU fan spin when turning power on? I usually start my eGPU like this (step 1 to 4): 1. plug in everything but the EC. 2. turn on the power on the psu -> GPU fan starts 3. booting up laptop 4. just before win- boot logo I insert the EC ---First time install, add the following steps--- 5. Check device manager if I see the 'standard VGA adapter' under display adapter (If yes, then your adapter and card are recognized by the system.) 6. Asked to restart system -> Unplug EC, then restarts system (with EC unplugged) 8.Before win- boot logo I insert the EC 9. booting up laptop (EC now pluged) 10. Install latest Nvidia drivers
  6. Oh yeah dude, I have two of them at home. A review is coming soon when my enclosure is done!
  7. Well that cable won't be on my desk regardless of length, since it will be damaged and break (possibly harm my system as well). The optimal would be a gen2/gen3 round PCIEMM150-type cable!
  8. Hi Compy. Those pictures will come when I get my thump out of my a*s and make a win8-install in my HDD Also my eSATA->USB adapter was somehow DOA so I'm currently waiting for a new one, therefore no USB3.0 bench atm. - - - Updated - - - I'd say both 12v and 5v, according to this source.
  9. Consider this before purchase Tech Inferno Fan>> I recommend a slightly pricier BPlus PE4C V3.0 over any EXP GDC product as it has no Gen2 expresscard signalling issues when tested on my Dell E6440. The EXP GDC V6 does glitch occasionally with a "NVidia driver has stopped responding" with the manufacturer unwilling to supply an updated Beast product for review. I'm therefore assuming the problem isn't corrected in the newer version. 11-Nov >> Note: Beast product not integrated into purchasing guide below as yet. Comparison: EXP GDC Beast versus V7 (Ares) versus V6 -> Beast is the best!! The "BEAST" edition being the newest unit being that integrates all the desirable features of V6 (excellent connector positions, USB connector) with the best of the V7 (150W DC jack, x2 link support) and adding a new honeycomb acylic enclosure option as well as a new secondary boot delay (CTD - presumably CLKRUN). You'll note that Cloud is offering a Paypal purchase option in his aliexpress (English) store. These being the links of interest: Ê×Ò³-ÊýÂ빤³¡-ÌÔ±¦Íø (Chinese customers or Yoybuy taobao agents) hero cloud's store - Small Orders Online Store, Hot Selling set game card, mini iphone memory card, card reader writer software and more on Aliexpress.com (English/ROW customers) Comparison: EXP GDC V7 (Ares) versus V6 V7 has a 150W rated round DC socket, has a new NGFF.M2 (x2 2.0) adapter option and new enclosure options. V6 has better positioned power connectors AND has the USB port, though USB port has been reported as being flakey. No rating on the round DC socket suggests it's good for 75W slot power. Both use the same (BIG) 8pin jack for the DA-2 220W Dell AC adapter so will have no problems with either V6 or V7. V6 is better for standalone EC/mPCIe use with the 220W Dell DA-2 without an enclosure as gives a tidier cabling layout. The 220W DA-2 can power up to a GTX760/670/680/970/980. A 229W GTX770 could be accomodated if prepared to undervolt/underclock with MSI Afterburner software to get full load stability. V7 would be better if wanting to use say a smaller 150W AC adapter (GTX750Ti/660/970), use a NGFF.M2 PCIe slot, or want the new enclosure option. Why US$83-shipped 0W PE4C V2.1 is better than a US$50-shipped 0W EXP GDC V6? | Why US$134-shipped 220W PE4C V2.1 is better than a US$99-shipped 220W EXP GDC V6? Picture comparison: Download >> PE4CvsEXP + Tech Inferno Fan has found clean Gen2 signalling of the PE4C V2.1, whereas EXP GDC V6 has unreliable glitches + Has a PM4N socketted mPCIe option + BPlus have a history of delivering quality products to the DIY eGPU community. + Easier to purchase with quicker delivery + Has H1PA option -> can connect to a desktop PC to extend the slot + Has a x2 link option, though this is primary for users with 1st gen i-core or older systems. Intel locking down 2nd Gen i-core or newer systems to prevent that. + Has locking x16 slot + Support two delay switch (PCIe Reset Delay and CLKRUN) to avoid registration problems when booting + 0W BPlus offering includes the special PCIe power cable that the EXP GDC V6 0W package does not Why EXP GDC V6/V7s better than PE4C V2.1? + 0W US$50 offering is far more affordable. Their a user sources their own ATX PSU to drive the adapter. + import tax free for some EU countries + Dell DA-2 native input cable -> Customer can buy the PSU locally in their own country -> corrected in PE4C 2.1. It too has a native DA-8 8-pin input. + Rubber protected (re-enforced) mPCIe/EC cable + Very good shape of adapter + V7 has a x2 2.0 NGFF.M2 PCIe connector option + V7 has very stylish enclosure options Disadvantages: - V6 had some quality issues: USB port power, faulty mPCIe/EC cables, PCI Reset Delay faulty on some samples - logistics/delivery/purchase is more complex via Taobao agents like yoybuy - No x2 link option where can combine EC+mPCIe or mPCIe+mPCIe (Series-5 1st gen i-core or older chipsets) -No nasty surprises like crazy import taxes, unlike similar products! 10. If someone wanna get ballsy? =) ~$80 3740QM SR0UV I've bought stuff there before so I have nothing bad to say so far.
  11. Hmm, you don't happen to have a spare gpu to test? Otherwise I'll have to send you my spare PE4L
  12. I seems like you're on to something here. Could you use a 5v phone charger from the wall instead? I'd even put both ac-adapter and phone charger in a power strip with an on/off switch. Turn on power on the strip, Then plug the expresscard during boot. Any improvement?
  13. How do you mean soldered in? I have two PE4L-2.1b EC, one 60cm and one 100cm. Just tell me if you want to test one. I don't need them both so I'll gladly sell you one for cheap. PM me if you're interested EDIT: Yes, correct. The cable is soldered to the board so it can't be repaired safely, meaning if you start re-solder the wires you're risking shortage and damage to your notebook.
  14. To me it sounds like you might have bent the PE4L-EC cable a little to much when storing it? It's unfortunately not an uncommon symptom. Where do you live? I could send you one of my spare PE4L-EC (60cm or 100cm) and if you need it you can have for the price that feels right for you.
  15. Hi! You never mentioned testing the different reset delays Sw1 & Sw2? Skickas från min iPhone via Tapatalk
  16. 750TI, very nice choice!! You will manage fine with a ~80W ac 5.5/2.5mm (12v) ac-adapter. I'll update this post when I find one! By the way, what adapters do you own, probably 19v? In that case don't attemp to use them! EDIT: This one looks affordable? You'll have plenty of power (96W), so no need for power starvation.
  17. Or it could be like @Aikimox mentioned, that the memory actually might down clock to 1333MHz? Is there a sure way to check this? By the way, are your inbox full? sent you 2 PM's a while ago
  18. Hmm that sounds very strange, I've made 3Dmarks with my HD4000 before. So you can't scores from 06 and 11? I'd be interesting to see how the ram would work together with an eGPU =)
  19. Ohh I see! Have you confirmed that they are running @1866MHz? (a screenshot of this confirmation). Also, if you could test 3DMark06/Vantage/11 with your different set of modules it would be really nice! (links to the 6 different 3dmark results). The 3DMark versions taxes the system in, sometimes very, different ways and the RAM could show improvements in certain scenarios. If you do this we can be certain of any improvements, also your findings and contribution would be noticed summary on the first page! Thanks a lot buddy!
  20. I read some strange thing that Corsair RAM in some cases manage to achieve 1866MHz, even with 1600MHz rated mobo (which super weird), wish I could find the source, sorry! If someone happens to have a 1866MHz Vengeance module, please test this.
  21. Oooh, I get it now! First I thought why the he*l would one need to disassemble the entire laptop in order to use the VGA-port =) Good job!
  22. Please tell me why you'd need to take apart your laptop in order to use an external monitor in the VGA port? I laughed at first then I realize I'm probably stupid. Skickas från min iPhone via Tapatalk
