Are you the guy owning the Akitio or have I confused myself? =) -

That's exactly my thought, a sleek implementation that could be easily transported, yet nice looking so that my GF stops complaining =) Of course one could just scavenge the PCB, use a powered riser and ATX for power Mad Max -style (no judgement) -

Yeah that should be an option for avoiding power starvation. But that is also not a very practical solution though, so it would very useful to know if the slot provides enough by itself. @Defo I also wonder if there is any marking/rating on the fuse itself? -

Nice! I remember looking for one at home but failed =) Of course I'd even pay $15 for one if I could get it instantly. - - - Updated - - - Oh, I yeah use a lot of linked pictures when speaking to him. I even draw some in paint if needed =) -

@madman3000 @jcagara08 If looking for modular cables (which indeed is not very common), look inthe intro post , I linked three modular PCIe cables that you can buy online for less then $10. The idea of the "non-DELL-PSU-Version" is that you would hook it up via ATX power supply, which means you can provide the GPU with PCIe from the ATX, tha cable is not necessary for this. The power bundled version includes the dell psu, which means you would need the modular PCIe cable in order to forward the power from the EXP GDC power port to the GPU. -

Are you guys buying from aliexpress (does not include dell 220w psu) or yoybuy (includes dell PSU)? If yoybuy, then you'll receive all cables needed. -

@madman3000 Did you buy the package that included the dell PSU? If not, then the logic is that you are going to use an ATX psu. In the intro post I linked three modular PCIe cables that you can buy. -

Yes, the mentioned 6pin modular PCIe cable is included in the package (with dell adapter), did you not get one? I'm sorry but how do you mean tricky? -

Is there anything in BIOS that allows to disable the dGPU? Like 'switchable graphics'? According to some googling you can disable the dGPU, this would mean that you can have a Nvidia card with optimus compression and use internal screen too. Let me know what you find! -

Oh ok. So do you have the iGPU active? The reason I'm asking is because an Nvidia card combined with intel iGPU is preferred due to optimus compression. -

So the TDP of the 7870GHz edition and 7950 is both ~200W? Then I'd go for the 7950 since it seems to outperform the 7870 in most aspects: AnandTech | Bench - GPU12 What laptop did you have? -

Hi buddy! It's an 6-pin male to 6 / 6+2 male PCIe. The plug is not included if I remember correctly, which means you need to provide one for yourself. -

it's quite a stable build with thickness of ~3mm, it actually surprised me! Aluminum is nice for thermal conductivity, but of course much harder to work with since it can't be printed out =) If you know a good "tinsmith" (not sure if this is the correct word) that can help you this could be an awesome build. What GPU are you planning to use? The great thing about the ASUS GTX 670 mini is that it should be able to fit (170mm) inside the closed case and be powered by the 220W DA-2, there is even room for some OC since the TDP is only ~170W. Of course one could wait for the GTX800 series (which is rumored to utilize the same thermal design as the "mini" did) and hope that they make some short and powerful high-end cards. -
@hamaki55 To be honest I really never understood how localize the TB controller on the mobo. Mine has a blank spot where I first thought the TB-controller should have been located. @ha1o2surfer Did you find how to recognize the TB-controller? All I know for sure is that REV 2.2 boards has it.

@madman3000 Hi buddy! This question might be considered stupid but I'll ask anyway, is there any option in BIOS for disabling the dGPU? For instance, 'switchable graphics' or 'optimus' etc. -
Nice, sounds cool even though I haven't tested the shield myself! Yes the internal monitor can be used by simply inactivate the 660M in the system, this allows the eGPU to render via the integrated graphics (HD4000) to the internal screen.

@Hakami55 Hi buddy! The idea is that all rev 1.2 and 2.2 has the TB port. I have the rev 2.2 that came with the i7 3610QM. I would definitely put a 3740/3840QM in there if I were you, I guess you planning to run newer games on your system?

@intelligence There should be a chance fitting the pretty powerful GTX670 mini (17cm), even w/o modifications, in the closed enclosure. Drilling air holes on sides and top is unavoidable though to avoid overheating the card. Also from my sign you can see that I made an 3D-printed enclosure for the exp gdc, work very good since it has a lot of air holes. -
12.5" HP Elitebook 2570P Owner's Lounge

@badbadbad Is $122 expensive for 256GB? I did not find any cheaper mSATA that seemed respectable. Afaik it is possible to pair difference sizes of drives, only the combined storage would be 2x the smallest of the drives (same goes for the speed).- 1882 replies

True, it would require some cable modifications. Cable soldering is pretty easy and good way to learn how to handle the iron. I have an idea of how to use the DA2 but that requires some soldering. 1. Cut DA2 male and change (solder) it to PCIe 6-pin male (of course combine the blue wire to one of the GND so it powers up when inserting the power cable). 2. Use a "y-splitter" 1x PCIe 6-pin female -> 2x PCIe 6-pin males (or 8-pin if you like) 3 a). Use a second y-splitter and modify (solder) one end to be 5.5/2.5mm barrel (center pin positive). 3 . Or attach this 6-pin to 5.5/2.5mm adapter instead: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Graph...891322614.html 4. Now we have 2 x PCIe 6pin males and one (or three) 5.5/2.5mm barrel connector. But anyway, it is very possible to provide both the PCB and the GPU via Dell DA2, only question is if the AKITIO PCB is power limited to 25W or not? In my profile "3d print enclosure" you can see that I did just that, modified the DA2 to more common power interface (red cabling). Hope this was to any help =) -
@Kevmanw430 I think your 3dMark11 score is pretty good actually, 9K+ in GPU. Your CPU won't give any significant physics calculations , a 3740QM/3840QM would help a lot. Nice work!

I always get the "eject VGA icon" for my 2570p. I might have to do with that I only install graphics + physx drivers, leaving out sound/geforce exp/etc (?)

@Yves Hi buddy. PM me if you're interested in the HP 90W slim travel adapter Thanks @badbadbad.
