  1. MSI AB has its issues, I found that Nvidia inspectors follows the recent nvidia api most closely and therefore works best. The voltage workaround should still work with MSI AB though, it's just a matter of configuring it properly. However since with that workaround the voltage controller will be set to a different mode, you'll be at the set voltage all the time, even when idling.

  2. I spoke with one of the guys I work with discussing power and the adapters and such. His theory is that inside the laptop there is a shunt that is keeping it from have the ability to take more than the 330w of power.

That's correct. But as I told you, I don't have a system to investigate myself and I won't spend time on this unless someone is seriously willing to mess with its board.

so i applied the new 880M vbios today on my M17xR4 + reinstalled the video-driver (337.88).

so far so good, but i observed some strange behaviour when trying to downclock the core.

    - standard gpu-clock is @993mhz

    - i use nvidiainspector to change the clocks

    - anything between 614mhz and 849mhz wont be recognized.

    - i can choose rates between these two values, and nvispector shows them under "gpu clock", but "current clock" stays an either 614mhz or 849mhz

(for example, i tried to apply a 793mhz clock, down from 993mhz. so i choose "-200 base clock offset". "gpu clock" correctly shows the new value of 793mhz, but "current clock" immediatly goes to 614mhz until i change the "base clock offset"-value to -400 or more).

any tips what might cause this behaviour?!

Yes that's right. Actually ca 835MHz should work as well. After all it's called "OC edition" not "UC version".

If you want to run at 700Mhz the stock vbios will do the job as well.

Fire Strike not even start and error:

    </struct>

As mentioned, that's software related. Did you do something to try and solve this? I.e. using a different driver, re-install the benchmark, using system restore etc.

  3. What exactly would have to be soldered to make the AW18 be able to go beyond the 330W PSU?

    At least some tiny resistors.

No idea how much the board can actually handle though... :)

Overclocking is not able on the 880M from dell actually sometimes it works on 3dmark 11 i can get around 10k score with but it crashes on other benchmarks i tried to up the core +100 with +25mv didnt work but +50mv worked after like 2-3 runs it crashed...ive got a 240W psu and my cpu is 4910mq i run at 4GHZ on all 4 Cores i dont know if i am power limited =/.

What about the option Power target from 100% to 160% do i need that? i turn it up to 160% but still crash. I can up the memory to +500 tho. Temps are 80-85 while benchmark

Define "crash". You got an AW17? The mobo of that machine doesn't seem to have a lot of headroom. Looks as if you hit a wall.

Excuse my ignorance, but you referred to the charger? if yes, is 330W

yes sometimes he spends the first two parts of the CLOUD GATE test and when going to the part of the test that it is the physical error in 3DMark, I have no idea what's wrong, but because it is in the Bios with the original works perfect, he the one swung in fps during the test, the few gains fps out of nowhere after a small thing locked milliseconds, of a locked micro so to speak, and soon afterwards the fps go up, for example in the FIRE STRIKE in part that with the Normal BIOS gets 29 fps with your are the one little lock 34 and 39 and go back to something around 30, could understand? I clear?

No, I'm afraid I can't really follow. The vbios itself is fine, it has been tested on different system. Ever tried running with stock cpu speeds? I have no idea how the R1 mobo behaves.

  4. Does that have to be? Is there a way to let it downclock when not used?

It still downclocks perfectly fine when idling. See this post for example.

the rest wont work , and at all games screen during games the screen flashes, as if something was not right, unstable ... the video driver does not know for sure, the

    Clocks? Settings? Temps?

Is there no way at all to increase the power to the AW18? If Dell locked it down some knowledgeable person should be able to unlock it.

If you wanna solder then there might be a way.

  5. That sounds more like a hardware issue when you say the laptop shut down unexpectedly. Did you try to start it again after that happened? I mean before trying the blind flash. Which BIOS was installed and which one did you try to flash?

Also turning off the machine while trying a blind flash is really not a great idea.

  6. Hey guys. I'm sorry if i misunderstood something in the rules. Just knowing some school english ;)

Already editet my post with an link to Dropbox. Wanted to upload it directly here but doesnt work.

A can't find any link to the vendor page with a newer bios so just uploaded Mine. It's untouched and stock for sure.

with"my target is to get about the gtx670" i meant that this is my personaltarget. So just want to get the vbios unlocked to oc with nvinspector or sth. Like this by my self.

And oV is locked in my bios so i cannot do it in Software.

tryed the 2gb dell vbios but it doesnt work.

I would be very thankful for your help and for sure i will spend you a beer for your work.

Here you go. Please post a screenshot showing the overclocking section of nvidia inspector. Thanks.

  7. Hi guys.

I need a vbios with boost (and throttling) disabled and voltage up to 1.3v for my msi twin frozr GTX 780.

    Original bios:

    http://www.filedropper.com/gtx780

For voltage above 1.21V you'll need either a hardmod or use the MSI AB voltage workaround.

For everything else, use the attached vbios. Please let me know if all is working fine. Thanks.

  8. Non-sense, where the hell is there a crack? Then again it's eurocom, they will always mess with you.

I don't see anything there at all. Also a lot of cards have slightly discolored die corners after a while, that's totally normal.

I would not accept that poor excuse. Though you probably can't really do anything about it.

Also - "repair the die". Eurocom, wtf. I'd never deal with them. If the die was actually cracked there would be no way to repair it.

  9. Hi svl7,

it would be awesome if you could do a modified VBIOS for the Inno3D GTX 780 iChiLL HerculeZ X3 Ultra.

There are just so many cards... I'd recommend trying the ACX version that can be found attached in the first post, should work perfectly fine with the iChiLL cooler.

I'm in the same situation as you guys. I have a gtx 780 with 80.80.21.00.75 vbios. There doesn't seem to be any version of MSI gaming available in this thread.

For those of you who own this card (gtx 780 gaming), don't waste your time with the Kepler tools (1.26 and 1.27). They don't work well with this card and can't be used to remove the throttlig that will happen if you run at higher frequency and voltage.

I have found that the card even throttles according to FAN speed. So the card will actually run faster if you let it run at 78 degress or so instead of increasing fan speed.

I'll look into that. Actually the older vbios should work fine on the newer cards, but people are not likely to flash that I think, cause it will need a security override to do so.

  10. i found what made the problems while flashing. The NV-Flash guide should be updated, the DOS commandline doesn't recognize the command -nvflash -6 ... the newest version only recognizes nvflash "ROMNAME" , if you do it like in the guide, it will say that you have to download a newer version of NVflash (Which isn't true because you already have the newest version, you are just using outdated commands).

Have to check the DOS version. There certainly has been no change in the windows version... -6 is there as always and still works perfectly.

is there a modified titan BE VBIOS?? thanks

Yeah, here you go. Trying to catch up on all the mods. I promised that one quite a while ago.

Someone please let me know if all is ok.

Also if you have different original vbios versions please send me a copy.

  11. A small amount will suffice. The paste is simply there to make sure there's no air between the die and the heatsink since air is a terrible thermal conductor. The "grain of rice" size comparison isn't too bad imo. In the end you just don't want to have no air in there. It really doesn't need a lot of volume, after all there should be no almost no air gap between die and heatsink anyway. If there is, then your heatsink is not planar.

You can test it easily with if you have two pieces of glass, e.g. microscope slides or whatever, put some paste on one of it, then press the other on it... then you'll see how far a relatively tiny amount will spread.

  12. Obviously with an upgrade I will have to repaste everything, the heatsink and the card. Now when I opened the 780M on my AW17 the copper plate was COVERED in CAKED grease like thin creme brulee (the copper was barely visible at all) and the GPU die was in a similar state (except the black square ring surrounding it). Took a while to clean everything off. Now with my new 880M and svl7 VBIOS should I do the same as the factory setup or just the standard 'grain of rice' glob right in the middle of the die?

Not sure what you exactly mean, but - just clean it all off, then apply fresh paste. Done. Use some rubbing alcohol or similar for cleaning and it's all off in seconds.

  13. Hey guys, was curious, tried searching but didn't come back with any results: Does anybody else have issues with the 780m vbios here breaking OpenGL support? With the factory MSI vbios, I have full OpenGL 4.4 support, but with the tech inferno vbios I lose all hardware OpenGL support and the system reverts back to the GDI software renderer with 1.1.

Anybody else run into this? I have tried about 4 different drivers ranging from the latest Beta's to the last 3 WQHL's... same result for each driver.

I know OpenGL isn't often used, but some of the programs I run still require it so this was a deal breaker.

Just came across this post. Is anybody else experiencing this issue? Especially Clevo and AW users? Might be MSI specific...
