  1. To start. I like to mention I previously was running an EVGA GTX 760, powered by 2x 6pin pcie on the card from a 750w psu, while the akitio itself had the stock 60w barrel plug to power board: I do not use any riser cables- just the board alone. It worked fine, I played battlefield 4 quite often with only occasional driver issues. So I went and picked up a new EVGA GTX 970 ssc ( the 3975-KR model). It has 8pin + 6pin connections, enough power there that I don't need a powered riser cable still, I'm trying to fit all this inside of a cooler master elite 130 mini ITX case now so it will hide all the wires and whatnot (before I just left the mess exposed and played my games). I want to attach the card directly to the board inside the case with no risers because I don't want whatever degradation people have discussed here that these cause. In doing this, the barrel plug and thunderbolt ports on the akitio board will be blocked by the rear of the elite 130 case. My question(s) 1: Should I power it with the akitio psu while the 750w psu only supplies power to the card? 2: if I use a riser cable to separate the akitio boards(pic attached) so I can move the ports to an accessible angle, will it degrade the signal? 2. Well I got antsy and tried Win10 again after reading the last few posts. No luck even with those new drivers. This is with a 2015 13" mbp retina with the iris6100 and external EVGA GTX 760. Back to Win8.1.... Again. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I just tested. Fresh install of Windows 10, updated all the things, installed nvidia's latest drivers, card was detected, install went fine, set all the games to prefer the nvidia gpu, still did not work with Optimus/ internal screen (2015 rMBP 13" w/ iris6100 & EVGA GTX760 attached via akitio Thunder2) ... Back to win8.1 and all is working fine :-/
  4. Try Windows 8.1, I know sounds like a headache but many are unsuccessful with eGPU on win10, while 8.1 seems to work flawlessly. I am running an akitio t2 with my early 2015 13" mbp, working great with win8.1, Windows 10 recognizes the card but won't use it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Did you get it working? I also had some of these issues with same mbp, I have the Iris6100 gpu, I'm using an Akitio thunder2, I was able to make it work with an external monitor attached to the gpu (tried it with EVGA cards only: GTX 660, 760, and a 970- all of them worked with external display no problem). But I want to use the internal Retina display, so installed Windows 8.1, updated all the updates , installed all the things. Then connected the eGPU with mbp powered off, powered up and started Windows, went straight to installing nvidia drivers - reboot, all works great with internal. I haven't had a single issue with Windows 8.1, whenever I want to game I shutdown OSX, pop in the TB cable and boot into Windows and ready to go. Which I'm bittersweet about because I want Windows 10 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Using thunderbolt 2 or 3? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I believe it's driver related~ seems like an nVidia "Optimus" issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. It's windows 10... I had the same issues, I installed windows 8.1, everything worked fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Thank you for this~ as far as firing the 660 with the Akitio PSU , i also have a 750w ATX PSU connected to the cards 6 pin ~ I plan on getting a 970, so I'll definitely look into what you suggest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. So right now I have working egpu as posted earlier : Akitio thunder2, an ATX PSU and an EVGA 660sc. It's working fine but I'm curious of the power it consumes and can handle, the gpu has only one 6-pin connector, so I have that and the Akitio power supply powering everything, I have a powered riser cable on the way, so my question is- should I use the powered riser + 6 pin + Akitio PSU? Or leave as is? Or should I use the powered riser + 6 pin and no Akitio PSU? Thanks in advance Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I also had no luck getting my eGPU to work on win10 with the internal monitor.. 2015 mbp 13" with the iris 6100... External monitor connected to the egpu worked though but not what I wanted. So I went back to 8.1 and all is working well with Akitio thunder2/ EVGA 660 and a PSU. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Got a thunder2. Threw an EVGA 660 in it. Single 6pin from a psu + akitio adapter = working great in windows 8.1. I had trouble in windows 10, Optimus apparently isn't working. But after going back to 8.1 it worked perfect Bf4 on high @ 1440x900 on 2015 retina mbp 13" 50-70 fps on internal monitor
