  1. I can't see it say either in Device Manager, though looking at the partition layout I've got a 350MB FAT232 boot partition and then the rest is the NTFS partition that holds C:/. That doesn't look like what I think a layout for an EFI install should look like.

I'm running Windows from an external SSD connected via USB, I had to manually create the layout and followed this; BleepToBleep: Mac: Install Windows 7 or 8 on an external USB3 or Thunderbolt drive without using bootcamp

Looks like I need to start over and ensure it's done in EFI mode, or should I install Setup 1.2 to correct this? Does EFI mode hold other benefits.

  2. ok, I've done some investigating. If I have the TB cable plugged into the 'top' TB port on the Thunder 2, I get the GTX970's BIOS on the external screen followed by the Win10 boot animation (internal screen is frozen at this point). The login screen then appears on the internal screen and the external one goes blank. Once in Windows, I get Code 35 as shown above.

If I move the TB cable into the bottom port, the external screen does not display the GTX970 BIOS. The Win10 boot animation displays on the internal screen, and then once in Device Manager I get Code 12 on the GTX970 and an HDMI Audio device.

  3. MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), i7, 16GB. Windows 10 on USB 3.0 SSD.

    KFA2 GTX 970, Dell DA-2 (barrel mod), AKiTio Thunder2.

    Setup works fine in OS X, but in Windows I get;

"Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35)"

This is after installing the NVIDIA drivers. Any suggestions of what to look into / check / do?

  4. Have you installed the Bootcamp software for Windows 10? There included is the Thunderbolt driver(afaik) so that might be the reason that you're not seeing anything regarding the Thunder2 or the GTX 970.

For OS X, have you actually run goalque's script or why did you post there without any further information on what you've done and what not? I saw your post over there.

I have installed the Bootcamp software (trackpad etc are all working).

For OS X, I ran goalque's script but it said "Thunderbolt device is connected, but no external GPUs detected.". My post on there links back to this one, describing what I've done.

  5. I have a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro (HD4000 and GT650M), 16GB RAM. I have an AKiTio Thunder 2, a KFA2/Galax GTX970 and a Dell DA-2 (powering AKiTio via barrel mod)

I installed Windows 10 on an external USB SSD, I installed it following this guide BleepToBleep: Mac: Install Windows 7 or 8 on an external USB3 or Thunderbolt drive without using bootcamp

If I boot into Win10 with the eGPU connected, Windows acts like it isn't there. I see no code 12 devices in Device Manger, nothing freezes, nothing odd happens at all.

If I boot into OS X, I can see the Thunder 2 listed but there is no sign of the GTX970.

The GTX970 works in another PC, so I know that that is functional.

I'm at a loss, I was expecting to at least errors with it plugged and then I could work to resolve those.

edit; I see that this was moved to the end of large sticky thread, can I ask why this forum is organised like that? I have found it confusing to navigate when trying to find information before. (this isn't me having a moan, I'm just curious as to why things are like this!)

  6. What does the DA-2 put out when not underload? I've made a cable to power the AKiTio and whilst confirming it was correctly wired I saw the voltage at around 19v. The stated output is 12v. Can someone else please check what their DA-2 does when not loaded?

edit: My multimeter was faulty, after checking with another meter it was showing 12.32v under no load.

  7. Is this is the Asus card that you said won't fit

Asus GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU Mini Review | bit-tech.net

because of this bit that sticks up above the top of the PCI backplate?

Do you have a picture of the Galax card laid out like that to compare?

I can't find the Galax card for sale in the UK :(
