  1. @Tech Inferno Fan I have read that post couple weeks ago and I have been speaking with Vidock customer service, they admit they don't have any sources of any users using their product on iMac, which is funny in their website it works all Mac products even they add iMac image on it lol. And they did suggest not to take the risk due of code 12 and lack of source due of their false advertising. But when I read it again, now I completely understand due of their limit bandwidth that contains 4Gbps. So it takes more than that to give good performance for the eGPU to boost correct? I was considering of using AKiTiO Thunder2, but however I don't like the idea of GPU being out exposure. Is it possible I can tear out AKiTiO Thunder2 and put it back together with GPU inside with PSU along with it. If not, I guess I'll have to get used to it. I don't mind PSU out the open. But will it cause electricity issues or something sort? I believe the Bootcamp Drivers I'm using are the ones I'm using that the user entzoe point out in instructions. Bootcamp Driver Support 5.1.5621 So I should be okay for Windows 10 in the future. Unless I'm missing something. I did use Bootcamp to install Windows 7 into my iMac and used Bootcamp 5.1.5621 Drivers along with Apple Support Drivers that contain support for keyboard, mouse, facecam, etc.
  2. I'm PerryStudios@Tech Inferno Forum I have couple questions regarding the eGPU. But however I don't have a laptop, but I use a desktop computer and I know eGPU was mainly used for laptops, but I would like it to try on my desktop computer. Here's what I have. iMac 12.2 (2011 mid) with i7 2600 and AMD Radeon 6970m 2GB. Despite the fact that AMD Radeon 6970m is a dedicated graphics card. But I'm going to use the same graphic card family instead of Nvidia. I know you recommend Nvidia, but I saw a report of a user using two AMD graphic cards in non-crossfire way and get good performance out of high graphic card. So I have some questions... -Does DIY eGPU Setup 1.30 might work on iMac's? -Do you think in the future DIY eGPU Setup 1.30 will work on Windows 10 because Windows 10 upgrade is coming soon -What do you have against Vidock, do you have bad experience with them? I'm planning to get their product because I don't want have my graphic cards out of exposure. I would like it in the box or covered some sort. If you have a good suggestion, I would love to hear it! -Do you have any other suggestions for me? I would appreciated if you take your time and reply ASAP. Because I would like to be part of the eGPU community, because it's very interesting and I don't want get a new PC. Maybe a laptop in the future, just maybe. @Tech Inferno Fan
  3. @computersaysno According to my research, sadly it is...http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/?gid=499&graphics=Radeon%20HD%206970M are you sure I can't just uninstall the drivers of the dedicated GPU and replace it with eGPU? Because I don't want a second monitor. Plus I don't use my Mac OSX that much and the graphics card that comes with it suits fine for it. I often use Windows 7 Bootcamp. I'll keep in mind in the future to get integrated graphics card if I get a new iMac in the future or I just basically build a gaming PC.
  4. Hi, I joined this forum to get some answers from people who have more experiences in designing eGPU's and what not. But I'm not sure which thread I can post this question, if needed please move it to another section if needed or point which thread I should post this. Okay now on my question: First off I bought myself an 27 inch' iMac 2011 mid-2011 with two Thunderbolt 10 ports (up to 10 Gbps) with i7 Core [email protected] Ghz along with AMD Radeon 6970m 2GB gpu. However I know iMac's are not upgradeable and I know it give me perhaps 1-2 years worth of gaming until it requires a better video card. That's why I've been researching a lot and I found this amazing forum along with users showing off their eGPU's. But most of them are notebook and not iMac's. So here are my questions. 1. Is it possible for me to have a eGPU for my iMac? 2. I was planning to get Vidock Nano, but I saw a forum post that it's a rip off. Is it useful for All-In-One iMac's? Why do you consider it as a rip off? 3. I want a eGPU that doesn't expose the graphic card out open, I would like to seal it shut like this picture here. 4. Is it possible I can just use AMD Graphics card? I'm not a AMD fanboy, I found a Mac Edition graphics card (which is used for old 2008-2010 Mac Pros) and I would assume it wouldn't mess with OS X system. But I rarely use it, I use Windows 7 Bootcamp more often. I wouldn't mind giving Nvidia a try, I just don't want my iMac to get confused with the drivers or whatever it is. I'm interested in this eGPU project, it's very interesting and sure it's kind of expensive, but it's better than getting a new computer. I'm happy with my iMac so far. I just want to stay with it for next 4-8 years and I would like to test my abilities of building and creating something. I'm extremely new at Thunderbolt, eGPU, and vice versia. I would like everyone to explain to me what is Thunderbolt is used for. As well recommendations for me to setup eGPU for iMac mid-2011. Just a reminder this iMac can hold up to 10 Gbps. I know eGPU's are suppose to be for notebooks. But I would like to ask users who are heavily experienced to answer my questions and give me suggestions. And Mods/Admins, if needed you're free to move this thread if you can or ask me to post it on concern thread via link please. Thank you!
