Damn, that would be so awesome
-
GeForce GTX 680M in an AW M17xR3 - would it be possible ?
Didn't heard any rumors about it.
Greetz.
-
Anyone benchmarked Max Payne 3 yet on his 17er ? )
-
Ever think of picking up ES 2920xm... Laptop monkey gives you nice discount as a member here and additionally more discount if purchased directly through pay pal.
For sure ? That would be awesome ! Then I would think about picking up a 2920XM, too

Try the following:
Go to BIOS and load the Optimal Defaults.
Shut down your Alienware and take off the AC.
Remove the battery and hold down the power button for around 25 seconds.
Put the battery back in and power on your Alienware.
Maybe that solves the problem

Same for me on Arkham City. Average fps is around 22-30 with some drops to 6-8 when you "travel" fast to other areas.
-
Damn, that's nasty...
-
And when you minimize it to system tray ?

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/hwinfo32-64-discussion/65-alienware-fan-control.html
You can override the fan control settings with HWinfo
-
Sounds like you overwrite the fan control of the GPU. Watch your fan speed with HWinfo, when undervolted.
-
That's nice
It's just so amazing, that a simply thing like repasting the thermal paste can have so much great effect.
Your notebooks gets cooler, becomes more silent and you can get more power by overclocking it

Yeah, did the whole thing, too. AS5 is really nice. I didn't changed the pads on the GPU RAM. The ones from DELL/AW work fine, so there's no need to.
But with the GTX580M, changing the thermal paste on the GPU has the nice effect of avoiding throttling. Unfortunately that's an Nvidia problem... Hoping, that DELL will fix this soon, 77 degrees is ridiculously low.
-
Nope, was the first thing I did, when I got my R3 ;> Never had a run with the thermal pads from DELL.
First: Changed thermal paste.
Second: Erased HDD.
Third: Installed SSDs
Fourth: Installed Windows

Having around 50 degrees @ 720p HD Video ;-) Repasted with Arctic Silver 5, of course
-
HL2 is kind of an old game now and is not able to stress the CPU as much as the stresstest does
-
Finally managed to hit the 880Mhz on the GTX580M. Vbios is modded to 0.92V, using System Bios A08, Forceware 290.36.
No CPU overclocking, stock cooling, repasted with Arctic Silver 5 and using Notebook Cooling Pad

So that's where the deadline is: 4.4 Ghz @ 96C - but man, that's really sick.
I guess I have to think about getting an 2920XM !
Nice run !
-
I have the latest bios, vbios, and drivers installed..
I think he does have the latest drivers and vbios

Obviously it must be a heating issue. Keep an eye on your GPU temperature.
Use HWinfo or Nvidia Inspector to do so.
And then share your new information with us :-)
Greetings

Exactly. I'd recommend a SSD for OS + APP/GAMES and a large HDD for storage needs.
Having 2 SSDs with 120GB each and 1 eSATA HDD 1TB and 1 USB 3.0 HDD 320GB
First SSD for OS + Programms + Music, second for Games.
If I need Storage, I use my external devices.
These combination is so great, because USB 3.0 is really fast and on the eSATA I have so much storage and can
copy with around 90mb/s.
Would reccomend it to everybody else
-
Yeah all the Sandy Bride Alienwares have newer OSD app which limits icon changing.
I'll will do it later, just stand by ;-)
Here it is:

Are you @overclocked when this happens ?
Sorry, didn't read well...
Would call DELL and ask directly for a replacement of PSU.
-
Can't you simply drop them in the folder of the OSD and override the current pics? Should work imo.
But Alienware's On-Screen-Display has no folder with current pics, they are all saved in the .exe
-
We're using different panel, hope some1 may drop by and share his profiles for 120hz monitor on M17xR3.
Ah just thought, that doesn't matter, because it's a LG too

Hey Guys !
Has anyone of you tried Counterstrike: Global Offensive on his R3 ?
It's performing good on mine, but after 10 minutes it freezes.
Using Windows 8 and HWInfo64 to speed the fans up a little bit to avoid throttling.
I think I have to get new heatpipes soon, even Counterstrike kills my GPU, lol
