  1. MVC, this is strange, because everything seems to be working in Mac OS X here, except the external display, is like it is not being detected... IDK if is because of the monitor DP 1.2 (4K 60hz), I'm kind of packing my stuff to move to Brazil in a couple of weeks, so I haven't had enough time to test. But for windows everything is perfect... the only point is enable the external displays, because I use Mac OS for Programming, and I kind of love multiple screen setup for programming, but without this mode (output straight from the eGPU) I will need to put a displayport to hdmi to support 2 other monitors and also keep changing the Source in the monitors... =( I didn't know about this bug about TB2 Macs... it is only with Mac OS X right? Because in windows, everything is fine. BTW I installed the latest CUDA/nVidia Web Graphics (for the 10.10.3) and everything (but the monitors) is detected, as I said.
  2. Hello everyone, I did the whole process as listed in the first topic (already edited), but the external VGA doesn't display anything... =( My Hardware Setup: Macbook Pro 15" (Mid-2014) - i7 - Intel Iris Pro ONLY - 256gb ssd - 16gb ram Sonnet III-D w/ nVidia GeForce GTX 980 (Reference design, made by PNY) Asus PB287Q Monitor (4K - 28", tested w/ DisplayPort and HDMI) My Software Setup: Half of the SSD is partitioned for Windows 8.1 Pro (everything including Optimus is working flawlessly) The other half of the ssd for Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 (drivers described below) nVidia Web Driver 346.01.02f01 nVidia CUDA Driver 7.0.36 -- What happens: If I turn on the laptop with the eGPU plugged into the thunderbolt before the Mac OS goes to the GUI with the mouse pointer being displayed, it reboots. So I do the same process of Windows, I turn the laptop ON hold ALT and plug the thunderbolt, then the Mac OS boots normally. If I change in nVidia Settings to load the Mac OS Default driver, it just keep rebooting (probably because it is a newer gpu and the factory driver doesn't support it yet). The System Report shows nVidia GeForce GTX 980 in the Graphics/Displays, also in CUDA and nVidia Driver Manager in System Preferences, but my external display don't show a thing. "About this Mac" also shows only the Iris Pro as a GPU. -- My question: Is any other config needed? Because as I've seen here in the topic, if the GPU name is being displayed correctly, you are usually fine. Thank you all... :3
  3. Hey guys, I have erased the whole SSD and tried to install again everything (Mac OS X first, then Windows 8.1, and then eGPU on windows). -- Windows Stuff: This time no external monitor was capable of displaying (tried a lot of random reboots with monitor plugged in the eGPU, plugged through the thunderbolt -> Vga adapter), so I have used Remote Desktop Connection in my iPad to connect and install nVidia Driver. Now I installed properly the Optimus settings (after the nVidia Driver is working), but still, no internal monitor found, and the Intel Settings can't be opened. Ps.: If I plug a monitor into a Thunderbolt -> VGA adapter, the intel settings can be opened, but the internal display is not displayed in any settings found. =( I also have changed the PhysX settings to eGPU and some regedits (tips found in forum) but nothing still.. Anyone have a clue about what is happening? -- Mac OS X: tusctodd, is the internal monitor working (not processing the eGPU, I just want it to display the stuff, because usually the Mac OS X will be used for programming. -- Specs: 15" MacBook Pro Retina mid-2014, i7 2.2Ghz, 16gb 1600mhz, 256gb ssd. Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 (First installed) Windows 8.1 Professional (updated until today, 2015-02-18). Partitions found: EFI, Mac OS X, Mac Recovery, Windows (100Gb) By the way, I noticed before erasing everything that if I let the computer sleep, it is not "able" to come back, it's like it had a BSoD and rebotted, I don't know now, but I have disabled the sleep while plugged in anyways. Thanks for the help guys. --- Edited: Guys, after getting really frustrated, I powered off the macbook and tried to turn on, and after a few seconds (close to while the grub is being displayed) I plugged in the eGPU in the thunderbolt, now everything is working. =x Now I am thinking if I should turn off and on to test or remain like this until I move back to Brazil (May 5th)... x)
  4. Dschijn, I lost myself playing the last 2 days, sorry about the delay... Well, I already had done the Optimus thing through Mac OS X (copy files from one DMG to the EFI partition), and both nVidia and Intel graphics are installed, but I notice that when I boot to Windows (holding Alt Key), after the windows logo disappear only the external graphics is being used... The Intel card is displayed in Device manager but the internal monitor is not detected and the Intel Control Panel doesn't open =(. For optimus works in Windows, is needed to boot to Windows WITHOUT holding the Alt Key? (I'm asking because Mac OS X doesn't display the windows partition as bootable =(. So the only way that I am booting to windows is holding ALT key. My plans are to erase the SSD and install everything from the beginning. But I'm waiting for a Windows 10 release =x. About the Mac OS X, I haven't tried to put the nVidia to work yet, I'm just enjoying Steam for now =)
  5. Well... sorry for making this confuse. Separating stuff: ---- Windows setup I had major issues but now everything seems to be working (I played one round of Dota 2 at 4K 60Hz, 60fps, everything maxed). I just needed to enable the DisplayPort 1.2 in ASUS monitor. Only issue from now: Macbook internal monitor not working. (probably config in optimus) Future tip for users: Don't do the first setup with an 4K monitor or a DVI-VGA adapter monitor, try a real DVI cable or displayport. ---- Mac OS X The system detects the Sonnet but no nVidia Graphics found, only Iris Pro. I will still do all of the configs, but from now I need to go to work x) --- Dschijn Thanks in advance for all your cooperation x)
  6. Well, I tried to put the Dell (17') monitor through the thunderbolt-vga adapter and worked, so I was able to install the nVidia Graphics. I think that is because the ASUS (PB287Q) is 4K and the basic windows driver can't display to it. =) Later I will install in the Mac OS X, but now the internal display is not working, even with the Optimus Drivers installed... anyone knows why? =( Also the 4K monitor only runs at 4K (even through the DisplayPort). But in specifications it was supposed to run at 60Hz. Additional drivers needed?
  7. Well, I couldn't install the nVidia driver because it says that the system is not compatible (because I only can try to do while is not plugged in at boot, and I am not sure if it still recognized after putting when Windows has already booted). I have already: updated drivers, tried to install nvidia driver (not installed), installed the EFI patch to internal LCD works with nvidia (Optimus). My config: Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2014 (latest one) - 256 gb ssd, 16gb ram, i7 4770hq My VGA: PNY GeForce GTX 980 (Reference) Now I'm updating windows (I will shutdown and power on, updates completed now). -- edit-- Still not working, it shows the Windows logo and the balls kind of spinning (loading) and then lcd goes to black and no external monitor shows what is supposed. Now I will try the Mac OS X Part. I didn't know that we needed to put drivers/etc.
  8. I have installed the latest bootcamp driver, also the Optimus in the EFI partition (now the icon displayed when I hold ALT is the nVidia icon). I haven't updated windows, because last time some games were bugging so I had formated it and only updated the drivers... Is there any specific windows update required? But even in Mac OS X the VGA is not being recognized =( It only displays Iris Pro (using Mac OS X 10.10.2 -- the latest one). I will try to boot windows and then plug-in the thunderbolt. ---- edit ---- updating windows... tried to install latest intel driver, succeeded but nothing new... tried to plug-in while windows was on, nothing new... mac os x still doesn't recognize the VGA, only shows Intel Iris Pro 1536Mb. =(
  9. Just to know, after installing the hardware part, what do I need to do in software side (drivers) ? Because my windows just shows the Windows logo quickly and vanishes, no video after that and my Mac OS recognizes the Thunderbolt port with the Sonnet III-D but no GeForce attached to it =x Screenshots:
  10. I just bought the Macbook Pro 15" (Newest model, w/o nVidia Graphics), and I was wondering, does it work (nVidia GTX 980 eGPU) with the internal monitor? And if I want to plug an external monitor where should I put it? In the other thunderbolt or in the nVidia GTX 980? I'm asking because I also have an ASUS PB287Q (4K Monitor), and I usually use through HDMI at 30Hz because I haven't found a Thunderbolt -> DisplayPort cable here in Prince George, BC (Canada), and I was too lazy to buy it online. x) I am excited to get the Sonnet III-d and nVidia GeForce GTX 980 soon, but seems that it will only be possible in January =(
