That certainly sucks! Seems like you got yourself a lemon! If I am not mistaken apple warranties the replacement parts for a good period of time so all parts that were replaced are still under warranty. If you can afford it, sell it and grab a 2015 version

Everyone saying the macbook pro 2015 will be fantastic, will it come out by the end of January?

Given all the parts replaced on that macbook, wouldn't it have made sense for Apple to simply give you a replacement, even if it were a refurbished unit? Makes no sense to keep swapping out parts like that.

Does the Apple have a policy that could help me to replace the laptop? Wow, sounds great!

  2. First of all, I suggest everyone to purchase an apple care service. My laptop can't recognize the usb drive in the summer. The Genius Bar replaced the mother board. During the past two months, the SSD of  my laptop died several times. They replaced the SSD. When they gave the laptop back, I found there was a huge mark on the screen which was can't get rid of, Genius Bar decided to replace the screen. By now, if I don't own the apple care, I would have to pay at least $1700 to fix my laptop, but now they're all free. I don't know I'm lucky or not, but I'm wondering what will happen once my laptop beyond the warranty! : (

  3. @328115208, can you confirm that your 750m rMBP is consistently recognizing and outputting to a monitor attached to your 970? Many, like myself, have had issues with 750m macbook pro's not consistently recognizing Maxwell GPU's such as the 970. I for example usually have to power cycle my laptop several times before it recognizes the eGPU properly.

If a simple SMC reset solves this issue, that's big.

My laptop is 2013 late rMBP with 750m, it can recognize Zotac 970 and output to a monitor every time, and both OS X 10.10.3 and Win 8.1 works great. What I'm trying to do next is to purchase the Dell P2715Q 4k monitor.

Does anyone have tried a 4k monitor :beguiled: with eGPU?

  4. Hi, Evo! Thank you for your guid!

I had already enable the Iris Pro 5200 of my laptop. My model is late 2013 mbp retina with dGPU 750M.

And could you please find a way to disable the dGPU 750M? If so, I could use Optimus + Internal Display!

I know using Internal Display could cause lower performance, but I'd like to have a try!

    Thanks!

Ps: You can try any commands on my laptop! I will show u the result!

  5. No! In this forum we came to the conclusion that the AKiTiOs limit is 25W. So by using 80W, it is running beyond the specifications -> not good!

I thought, that a 6+8-Pin power connector on the GPU might provide enough power so that the GPU doesn't need more than the 25W, but I was wrong.

Bottomline is that I would advice everybody who wants to work with a AKiTiO to get a molex powered PCIe riser card to overcome the 25W. Additional benefit is, that the AKiTiO doesn't need it's own PSU and can be directly powered by the riser.

I use the self-made molex to DC 5.5*2.5cm to power up the 25W AKiTiO. As you mean, the riser will work better. I will try it after I get my GTX 970. Thanks, dude!

  6. @328115208:

    A 970 is indeed better than a 780!

If there would be enough space, so we talk NOT about the Elite 130 case, you can run a GTX 970 with the AKiTiO. But I wouldn't recommend that. As you can read one the first page of this thread I also tested the power used by the setup. Without the riser the GTX 970 can take up to 80W through the AKiTiO and that is far beyond it's specs.

So even that my MSI GTX 970 has a 6+8-Pin power connector, which could provide 225W (75W+150W), it needs a big part from the PCIe Bus directly.

Thank you, Dschijn! Are you mean MSI GTX 970 with 6+8-Pin power connector and 80W PCIe Bus (75W+120W+80W) will work greater than 6+8-Pin(225W)? Is it same to the GTX 780?

  7. My GPU is currently in a RMA process, but maybe the picture without the GPU is even better.

    I am using two riser:

    - a 90° PCB riser

    - a flexible riser molex powered

Hey Dschijn, Thank you for your Guide! I have a question, can you run GTX 970 without the riser(if there was enough space)? If yes, I will return my manufacturer fault GTX780 and replace it to the 970. My friend told me 970 is better than 780. :83:

  8. Any ideas why im not getting a display output?

NVidia drivers are installed and working (loading)

    System Info looks good

Monitor on DVI port but i can't get any display...

    Macbook Pro Retina Iris only

Haha, what I did was plugged out TB2 without shutting down the OS X 10.9.5, then the OS X crashed. When the display showed 'Kernel panic', pulled in the plug then press return button. After the OS X restarted, the external display worked.

  9. Now we have the first proof that Mid 2014 MacBook Pro with GTX750M + eGPU enables the external monitor on OS X. Did you use these steps to enable it?

    http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/6088-%5Bguide%5D-2011-13-macbook-pro-gtx660%4010gbps-tb1-sonnet-ee-pro-win8-1-osx-10-9-1-a-2.html#post87145

Mark said here that with the Late 2013 15" 750M + OS X, an additional reboot was required sometimes. There does not exist an eGPU solution for Mid 2014 Iris Pro Only model with OS X. I have tried to enable external monitor via eGPU many ways without success. I wonder how the dGPU affects this issue? For those who are considering whether to choose a model with the dGPU or Iris Pro only, should keep this in mind:

    - Iris Pro only -> internal screen Optimus support on Win8.1, black screen output to external monitor on OS X (someone who knows there is workaround, please say)

    - GTX750M -> no internal screen Optimus support on Win8.1, accelerated external monitor on OS X

I do modify 3 kext. And the external monitor with GTX 780 does not work every time.

When external monitor using GTX 780 does not work, I disconnect the TB2. Then the OSX 10.9.5 crashed and restarted itself.

    Then external monitor works.

Is it harm for my laptop, when I disconnect the TB2 without shutting OSX down?

    Late 2013 15" Macbook Pro GT750M + GTX780@16Gbps-TB2 (AKiTiO Thunder2 without riser)

AKiTiO Thunder2 is not big enough for ]GTX 780 get in. So I bent the box of AKiTiO TB2 :Banane45:

Anyone knows how to disable GT 750M? I cannot use eGUP in the inner screen.

Do I need to modify the EFi?

And in the Win8.1, Iris Pro is disabled, I cannot use inner screen with GTX 780. Using OSX 10.9.5.
