You goddamn right! My system are not capable to run with optimus on, I just turned it off and EVERYTHING WORKS NOW OMG!
I've tryed it before but the legacy was on I did not realized that was a problem, so now with the legacy off, I was capable to turn optimus off with no problem

Alienware 17 A14 GTX 970M (originally 880M) running Windows 8.1 UEFI, legacy off. Optimus on, 240W PSU.

After a fresh new installation of windows 8.1 and the modded driver 347.25 (and many others) that I downloaded here in forum I got this problem:

I have tested with windows 7 too and sistem boots pretty well and the driver installation are fine, but after the first restart the sistem becomes unstable and starts to freeze
I'm freaking out :'(

You probably need to try the modded .inf driver, worth to try.

Now the GPU is recognized in windows but when installing the driver system keeps crashing...
I didn't change the vbios, just upgrade my AW17 bios to A14.

My friend and I both have a alienware 17 with gtx 880m models, and we had bought on ebay one gtx 970m sli kit for both of us do an upgrade on our alienware 17. I made a huge search and I couldn't find any VBIOS with basic values for our aliens. Not even overclocked also!
Any owner of alienware with 970m could up the VBIOS for us?

by the way, I forgot to mention, I had tested the VGA with the stock vbios and the alienware starts to beeps 8 times

it is not possible to unlock Alienware 18 bios and your 880m sli kit should work if they are Dell 880m they should just work. Mine are working that were shipped with my Alien 18. Try starting with one card in the primary gpu slot and if that one dont work try the other. If you get one going then try SLI.

Well, I have a AW 18 for 780M SLI, but I dont have the GPUs anymore, so I bought a 880M SLI kit from ebay and install on my AW 18. I've tested the two 880M indepententily in my MSI GT70 and its reconize on NVFLASH just find. But when a put the 880M on my AW 18 its not reconize on NVFLASH is just like the card are not attach to the mobo. NO NVIDIA DISPLAY CARD ARE FOUND (something like that). Same on Windows, only the intel graphics are show on divece manager.
My AW 18 are using A10 bios version

Its supost to work out of the box, Idk whats wrong >.<
there's no vbios 880m on vbios collection in techpowerup

whitelist not removed and my Z580 started to freak out I had to update the bios to return to normal
actually im looking for a unlocked bios that could able me to use only my GT 635m instead of optimus, is it possible?

I'm having some throbles here with a GT70 0ND (maybe barebone
idk exacly)The original GPU are dead, I dont have it anymore, I try to put a new 680m but I cant install the driver
if I force the instalation the screen goes black and I cant see anything, but the windows still running I can rear it
I think its a vbios problem, probabily te vbios on the 680m are not for my MSI
I have a 780m with the same problem, with only one diference nvidia drive install and I dont have to force it, but the screens goes black after the restart.
Can u guys help me? >.<

did you had to unlock your bios? or just work with the stock bios? sorry was confuse to understand this informations and Im asking because I have almost the same problem as you do

Im actualy at A05 locked, if I want the A13 unlocked I have to upgrade to A13 then set the unlocked version?
