  1. I have a dumb question: In a laptop, Hdmi connector and Gpu are separate unlike the desktop gpu card. Putting a 980m on a P370SM-A, does it will allow to have an HDMI 2.0 output (because the card support it), or does it will be limited to HDMI1.4 output (connector wired to the motherboard) ?
  2. To measure the total power consumtion of my computer, i use a wattmeter like those http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wattmeter I don't recommand the OC of cpu and gpu at the same time on that system, remember that by pushing the system over 220w, you will also put pressure on the power circuitry of the motherboard (that originaly designed to support 180W). I don't succeed to OC my 2960XM with the oc Gtx680m, all my tests has resulted in power failure. In some scenario, with my GTX680M @1006 Mhz core/ 2450 Mhz memory Ov 1.025V, i reached 230W (peak) at the outlet with my 2860MQ. The dell adpapter is a good one but you need to modify the jack connector that is not the same on P150Hm
  3. Does P170SM support haswell refresh like 4710 4810 or 4910MQ with your modded Bios ?
  4. With the help of prema, there is a high probability that the 980m will become compatible because P1xxSM and P1xxSM-A are almost the same model ... so be kind with him and buy him a beer
  5. 334.89 WHQL modded .inf for P150HM/P170HM https://mega.co.nz/#!yoxBQD4Q!FyHG5DiwmfZZWu9hz-3cnSoPna8e5grIGkBP6Y24NiU @madmax: sorry for not answering quickly, my topic is pretty old now and i don't have my P150HM anymore, so i update the topic less often. to get this amazing result, i flashed the GTX680M with a compatible vbios made by svl7, that allow a overvolt in order to stabilize the card at higher frequencies. I bought a modified backplate to give more fresh air to the gpu in order to drop the temperature. And finally i bought a modified asus 230w psu because the original 180w PSU is not able to power an overvolted/overclocked GTX680m. @AndrewB2010 : the best vbios for P150HM/P170HM is the MSI 80.04.33.00.24OCedition by Svl7, you can take the ov 1v if you have a PSU superior than 180w.
  6. @Manuel How to modify 302.77 nvcv inf nvcv inf editing method I sold my P150Hm because i bought a P170SM @22bart22: Download official 331.82 WHQL on the nvidia website, then try to install. If you got the error "compatible device not detected" then download 331.82 WHQL Modified NVCVN inf for 0000.1558 replace the file nvcvn.inf in the C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\331.82\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver folder Re-launch the install and it will be OK
  7. Nope ... the only update of the 331.93 bêta driver is a sli profile for AC4 then this driver is useless for P1XXHM owners. Hotfile is dead then i give you the link of Laptopnut modded .inf LaptopNut Note: He made a guide for doing yourself I will not released modded .inf anymore because i sold my P150HM.
  8. What a scam ! I pass my time saying to people "beware of your vbios version!" "Ask at your retailer for a compatible one" and eurocom shits on our face. But it's a good news, Congratulation svl7, you have saved another guys from a nervous breakdown.
  9. Geforce 331.82 WHQL modded.inf https://hotfile.com/dl/255756600/9571963/nvcvn.inf.html
  10. @SMN: Don't worry, svl7 will take care about your card. Sorry to be unable to help you with more efficiency. @Prema:you are probably right, a lot of time had passed since i had to repair my mistake.
  11. you need to wait after the backscreen with dash during an average 5 min
  12. "... and same situation, first screen 2 min ang go to black with flashing dash...." 2 minutes can be not enough, if you got the 80.04.33, wait 8-10min if no result you have probably a more recent vbios ...
  13. Did you try to boot on your bootable usb key? You need also to remove the Optical Device (dvd or blu-ray). If you have already tried that ... the only way is: -returning your card to eurocom -soldering a new chip (maybe svl7 can do that if you sell him the card) -plug the card in a Pxxem model and flash the correct vbios
  14. I confirm what Prema Says :"The cards actual vBIOS revision is higher than what is written on the sticker, they must have updated it." Your issue is vbios related, there is two possibilities: If you have 80.04.33.00.10 version, there is maybe a little chance to save the card: you need to make an usb bootable key (tutorial here :http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia-video-cards/2166-%5Bguide%5D-nvidia-vbios-flashing.htm) with nvflash Download NVFlash 5.136 | techPowerUp and the original vbios 80.04.29.00.01 https://hotfile.com/dl/245780438/73321d2/Backupgtx680.rom.html When you are ready, unplug your Hdd or sdd, then plug your usb key and boot. Wait a three beep series (it can take a long time 5 to 10 min), after it will succeed booting in your USB key. then backup your vbios nvflash -b badbios.rom and flash your card nvflash -4 -5 -6 Backupgtx680.rom Then you will be with 80.04.29.00.01 version and it will be ok. The second possibilities is far less funny: If you have 80.04.67.00.01, the only way to flash the card is to mount them in a P1XXEM series.
  15. Svl7 was right, the card with 80.04.29.00.01 bios, should work with your P170HM unless you have the 3d 120Hz screen. Dell version has only 2Go of Gddr5. DO you have only a blank screen or do you have something displayed at startup? If you have a blank screen, after the installation of the GTX680M, you can try to remove the battery under the keyboard to make a clear cmos. When i plugged my GTX680M in my P150HM it was plug and play, but when i reverted back to my GTX580M, i had to clear cmos in order to have the GTX580M recognized again ... weird things happen. The only vbios know to work on the P1XXHM are the 80.04.89.00.01 and MSI 80.04.33.00.24, other don't allow to boot on your HDD/SSD. If you have others vbios, and know someone who have a P150EM P151EM P170EM , you can try to mount the card in this system, and then flash to compatible vbios. Does your laptop make some beep?
  16. I dont turn fan to 100% (fn+1) because i made a lot of modification (backplate + gtx780m heatsink modified by adding copper ram heatsink + notebook cooler) With that, i can keep the gpu under 89°C (max temperature reached after 1h of Crysis 3 gpu OC @ 1006Mhz core / 2400 Mh memory / ov 1.025v) with an ambiant temperature of 27°C.

  19. Hi Guys When i read the thread, where Jaybee has changed his 2860QM with a 2960XM and then made some crazy overclocking, i wanted to try the experiment. [Guide] Upgrading P150HM with 2960XM....and overclocking it! (recommanded reading) The experiment was not as funny as expected, like i cannot really overclocked the cpu. Effectively, i was able to change the cpu multiplier, but it leads in performance drop. I therefore propose a comparative test between these two cpus (2960XM, 2860QM) boosted with a change in the bios (Prema inside) that concern with the maximum TDP in turbo mode. Prema Bios ----------------2860QM Normal Bios --------------------------2960XM Normal Bios Short TDP 80W -------------Short TDP 55W ---------------------------------Short TDP 68W Long TDP 70W --------------Long TDP 45W ----------------------------------Long TDP 55W Duration 32s --------------- Duration 16s ------------------------------------Duration 16s In practice this means that the cpu will run (much) longer at the Maximum frequencies allowed by Turbo mode. Of course, I do not expect any miracles, because the 2860QM and 2960XM are very close in their specification. Here we go: Softwares performance comparison: In term of performance, the 2960XM is between the 3720QM and the 3820QM and surpass a 2600K desktop (I know, it is a pretty old cpu, now). It is generally more efficient than a 4700MQ, except the encryption part that seems to have been quite improved on Hasswell generation. Game performance - Synthetic: 3Dmark11: 2860QM and 2960XM comparison with prema bios Result 2860QM Prema bios and 2960XM stock bios comparison Result 2860QM Prema bios and 2860QM stock bios comparison Result Conclusion: If you stop on the Gpu score and the number of fps in game scenes, the scores are almost identical. Regarding the Physx score to assess the CPUs performance, what is interesting is that a 2860QM with a modified bios (prema Inside), competes better than a stock 2960XM with stock bios (while consuming less, a 2860QM requiring only 1.2v against the 2960XM with 1.3v). Game Performance 2860QM vs 2960XM Prema Bios: Call of Prypiat DX11 ultra 1600x900 Metro 2033 DX11 ultra 1900x900 AAA Crysis 2 Adrenaline Benchmark DX11 ultra 1600x900 Batman Arkham City 1600x900 ultra Physx on fxaa Dirt3 DX11 ultra 1600x900 Sleeping Dogs DX11 ultra 1600x900 Réglage Tomb Raider TombRaider Bioshock Infinite ultra DX11 1600x900 Analysis: Overall performances are very close between the two cpus, with the Games that are more Gpu's dependent, earnings are close to zero (metro2033-Crysis2). On the other games, performance gains are variable (between 2fps "sleeping dogs" and 9fps "Arkham City"). Note the underperformance on Call of prypiat who managed to reach the maximum TDP for the 2960XM (hence reducing the frequency of the latter ...). On Bioshock infinite, the minimum fps are higher with the 2960XM higher than the 2860QM, however, the results remain very close ... Note that in this game the 2960XM is better off with the stock bios. - - - Updated - - - Games Performance: 2860QM Prema Bios Vs 2960XM stock bios Call of Prypiat DX11 ultra 1600x900 Metro 2033 DX11 ultra 1900x900 AAA Dirt3 DX11 ultra 1600x900 Sleeping Dogs DX11 ultra 1600x900 TombRaider Analysis: Almost no gain, between the 2860QM with the Prema Bios and the 2960XM with the stock bios (only Call of prypiat sees the minimum fps number's increase significantly ), the 2860QM, even obtains superior results in Dirt3. Power consumption /Thermal Release/ Problems and Conclusion: Bench realised with Crysis3 DX11 Ultra Fxaa 1600x900 driver 331.40 Bêta, measured with HWINFO64 The 2860QM runs at a frequency of 3.3Ghz instead of 3.6Ghz (is it due to the fact that it is a QS?) Vs 3.7GHz for OEM 2960XM. Consumption at the wall: 2860 does require only 1.241v against 1.331v for the 2960XM, resulting in a gap between two of 20 W ("CPU Package Power [W]" maximum 47W for the 2860QM against 68W for the 2960XM .. . 210W for the whole machine with the 2860QM against 230W with the 2960XM) i'm a genius (210+20 = 230w) yeah . Thermal release: I installed a P170EM's cpu heatsink ( this one is integrally copper unlike the P150Hm cpu heatsink that have some part in aluminum). The gains are about 2 degrees for the 2960XM to 8 degrees for the 2860QM. Temperature reading on the hottest core (maximum): 82 °C on the 2860QM - 94 °C on the 2960XM (add two more degrees with the P150HM heatsink). Such a discrepancy can be easily explained in relation to what has been said above (frequencies - voltage). Problems: Jaybe had made miracles with his 2960xm inside his P150HM ... not me. Under Crysis3, (the Extreme benchmark ) , the 2960XM with Prema's bios associated with my GTX680M heavily OC, resulted in a security shutdown of the machine. This is not due to the Cpu or Gpu's temperature that remain in the standards, or an overload of the power supply because power consumption not exceed 230W. It's the power circuitry from the motherboard that is not designed to receive 230W continuously. It overheat and engages a security shutdown. Conclusion: So this 2960XM, good or not? ... well, it depends. You have a P150HM: If your main concern is the game and than you OC your GPU as a gross and want to change your processors, i would advise you, just stop up to 2860QM. If your "trip" is rather the image editing, video encoding ... and want to change processors (2630QM, 3610QM), you can consider the 2960XM with carefree. You have a P170HM/EM or an alienware: You are not impacted by a limitation on the power circuitry for your machine, regardless your considerations (games or productivity) the 2960XM is a good option ... Bonus: I invested in a GTX780M's heatsink + pad Phobya 7W/mk ... it results in a drop of 8 degrees, although I realized with Crysis3 (the ultimate benchmark) that my GTX680M had finally need to be overvolt at 1.025v to be stable at 1006 Mhz/2400Mhz. Special Thanks: To Prema for his P170HM bios custom - To Svl7 for his GTX680M vbios custom
