First of all let me tell you that I am one who done that M17x CPU Fan Upgrade/Mod (2CFM->10.4CFM) and it work preety good. Now my cpu wont freeze when i test it with Intel burn test an extreme (72.34 GbFlops) / Before on this setting the image just freezed and I had to restart. Now on extreme with this fan the image not freezing anymore and the cpu temps are not passing 78 C celsius.
So I let you make the comparison rsgametech. And btw why you want Oem finishes? It's on inside anyway. Nobody sees it. Il sacrifice something like this for performance and more less cpu temps. Especialy on OC.
I also admit that the pitch sound on this fan is higher but not disturbing / It revs until 5000rpm, something that the stock fan could not do.

Install custom vbios to get rid of the trothling. Also make sure you have a 240w charger.
-
I dunno noone who have done that, or they didnt said it...
Even if u brick the card u can flash again and the problem solved
-
I will need like 12 of them. I sent a pm with the adress.
-
I'l need the screws pls.
-
I have a gtx 770m for swap with these cpu's 3920xm or 3940xm.
The gpu is in 100% working condition...bought new 4 month's ago (vbios unlocked, never OC). Reason for swaping or selling is upgraded to gtx780m.
I will awayt your pm's.
If u have questions post here, il answer them.
-
Thx for the post...il order some 1866 just to be sure, im not prety sure about the 2133
-
Does someone knows for sure if the 1866mhz or 2133 mhz ddr3 works on r4? Does someone have them in theyr system? Coz i want to upgrade to 4x4gb corsair vengeance at 1866mhz and i dunno if they work in r4 or not
-
I dunno about that... but with me happens that i have it on 100% and no sound coming out ( sometimes not all the time)

You will need a moded .inf file...tell me you Hardware Id and I will make a moded inf for u
Hardware Id u can find by entering device manager/ Display adapters / Vga Adapter / Properties / Details / Hardware Ids / Copy paste everything from there into this post.
I will make the .inf for u / Copy the inf in the Dysplay Driver folder in Nvidia Dysplay kit (what you downloaded from nvidia.com or whatever)/ Run setup.exe after/ Install drivers / Thats it.
It will be better if u can tell me what brand is your gtx780m (dell, nvidia, clevo, msi....and so on)

I preffer mx2..has good results...less curring time than the 5 series
-
so you realy best have a 3 pipe heatsink...more safer for oc
-
Ahh, Don't know the TDP on the 660m but it's an easy eyball job to check what HS it has. From what I've seen the PSU supplied is the indicator. 180W=75W GPU, 240W=100W GPU
The tdp of the 660m is 75w..check if you have the triple heatsink... btw 680 is not realy a 100w gpu but for safer reasons is better to have the triple heatsink and as well a 240w psu
-
As well as the 240W PSU you'll need to track down a 100w (triple pipe) heatsink.
If he had the 675m for sure he has a triple piped heatsink (beacuse 675 m is rated at 100w tdp)
For 660m it might have only because it's an R4 but i would not bet on it.

best cpu 3940xm. pretend the 880M is a 580m/680m/780m and get the mod desktop driver from NBR or a driver from the one selling you the card or edit the .inf file to accept the driver. as for the heatsinks, its pretty much the same as i mentioned
But with the 880M keep in mind that a 330W psu is recomended to not have performance issues.
-
what 780 card you have, and what Hardware Id ? I will make a modified inf for you...
But it's odd because yesterday i upgraded my mx17 r4 to an 780m and the driver instealed without modified inf...For the 770m it requested me (i dunn why)
Maybe someone can shed some light on that... i realy whant to know :sneakiness:

I recently upgraded my Mx17 R4 with an 780m from a 770m and i saw some older treads that this gpu can be overclocked to reach 192 gb bandwidth.
I just want to know how if someone will tell me.
I already have flashed the gpu vbios with unlocked one (thx svl7 for your awsome work)
I stressed the gpu with furmark and my temps doesnt pass 65 C in full load... So i'm good.
I need the gpu clock / memory clock / and mv in NV inspector for a stable OC
-
Those temps are very normal because of the fact Alienware/Dell seems to stock a very quiet fan profile but causes us higher temps under load and at idle. The fans wont really get going much at all audibly till around 80c. If temps get bad under load may I suggest HWiNFO for fan control
BTW. About that...I recently replaced the thermal compound with arctic cooling mx2 and tested it with IntelBurnTest on maximum stress at all cores and the temps didnt reached 80 C....so i think it is good. But it still idles at 50 C.
And i aslo puted thermal pads on the 4 big and 2 small semiconductors near the CPU. I saw that in an Eurocom videos. they say it helps.
-
hi zakken.
For hdd any one you like.
For mSata doesn't worth the hassle...
For gpu the best solution for u will be the gtx780m (anything over that has some compatibilty issues but u can try anyway)
Be sure for the 780m you will need at least a 240W adapter, unlocked bios and moded .inf driver.
For thermal paste I work with Arctic Cooling MX2, but u can use whatever u like, also i can recomend IC diamond as well (this is what Eurocom guys uses)
Thermal pads you will need the best 0.5 mm pads that u can find.

You have an option in bios in advanced : Always enable PEG (enable it)
Disable IGP
Set from SG to PEG
Save / Boot
That's it.
Don't be scared.

Thx. Flashed and worked...

This is already unlocked. See the Nvidia 770m - 80.06.51.00.0F 'OC edition' - rev02.zipIt is the same board even though it doesn't say Dell in the zip file name.
Thx. Flashed and worked...

Check the psu. for the 880 it's recomended a 330w psu. It might happen that the card when full boosted to require more than 240 w if you have that kind of psu.
-
yes. i am a hardcore gamer... and for the moment i think i will leave the ram upgrade and focus in upgrading my gtx770m to an 780 or 880 gpu.
But anyway thx for the reply.
I 7 3920xm overclock
in Alienware M17x / AW 17
Posted
I was wondering how to make a stable overclocking configuration for a 3920xm to maintain the same boost speed of 3.8 gb when working on all 4 cores, not only on one core. (one core 3.8 / 4 cores 3.6)
