  1. Hi guys, I updated my bios by downgrading to v2.07 whitelist following the instructions in the initial post, then upgraded back to V3.05 stock bios and ran "EC.bat" on a dos usb stick that worked fine, then patched the V3.05 stock bios and it would not upgrade because Error 280: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space! so I tried flashing v2.07 again and that worked and then I flashed my modded V3.05 and that worked just fine, everything seemed to be working. then I installed windows 7 and went to install all the lenovo y510p drivers (not in any order) and I it had me reboot a few times, and now I am stuck with a black screen and no logo even ! I tried following this Edmar Hobby - Electronic: Lenovo Ideapad Y580 Insyde Bios Reset/Recovery but it did not seem to help :/ please anyone can help me? lenovo support is not very helpful at this point

thats because you gota downgrade to 2.07 first then run the EC.bat in dos mode to update EC part then after that you flash your moded 3.05 bios since if you downgrade to 2.07 then to stock 3.05 then EC it will throw an error since 3.05 has write protection on EC while 2.07 does not.

Update: also like svl7 said you all should keep copy of your original bios.bin that bios backup tool creates :) it is so you can flash your original bios back to laptop if you don't want the mod anymore :)

  2. Sup dudes, here's the mod, please let me know if everything's fine.

Don't have much time at the moment, will be away for some days, gonna update the main post and instructions when I'm back.

So... Generally it works just as before, but I advise you to update to v2.07 (if you're not already on that version) before going to modded 3.05.

Then you basically follow the procedure as described in the first post, but you'll have to flash the EC separately. I recommend flashing it before going to modified BIOS 3.05. Just put the files in the EC folder on your DOS stick and execute the "EC.bat" (make sure you're on AC and not Battery only).

Then you can go ahead and flash the BIOS. After flashing the BIOS go to the setup and load the default settings.

I'll look into the ME Update when I'm back. If anyone could post a screenshot of Nvidia Inspector showing the OC stuff I'd appreciate that, just to make sure I didn't mess up.

    Cheers!

Yay finally does this one unlock the menus right?

  3. Okay for some reason my cmd.exe seems to be the problem... (I disabled the AV software, disabled UAC + registry).

So I decided to use powershell. Powershell was able to do the backup.bat with: "start backup.bat" so yay! I got a bios backup and went on to modifying it.

NOW. The problem is I can't flash it. I tried flashing with the script provided on the powershell, and it doesn't like it. And then I tried it with "start" and it doesn't get the -bios argument. Then I went to the cmd and I got the same damn Error 284: Fail to load driver (PCI Express) Tools need to run with administrator privilege account.

What the hell? What is wrong with my cmd???

that blue box is not CMD it's Windows Powershell you would need to find cmd.exe right click on it and run as administrator then cd to path where you got the bakcup.bat at and then type backup.bat and it will begin dl some stuff from flash memory or w.e BIOS is installed at, and once done you should find a bios.bin inside your folder where backup.bat is located at.

Ops could a moderator put this 2nd post with my first one? i forgot i already did a post reply so do this incase double post isnt allowed.

  4. there is one AC card that works in y510p for those who does not wanna risk on flashing a moded bios into their laptop they will have to go to this link IBM Broadcom BCM94352HMB 802 11AC Dual Band 2x2 AC Bluetooth 4 0 867Mbps Card | eBay i ordered this one from china and got it yesterday and then i installed it into my y510p and it works great no issues at all it booted up fine and i installed boradcom wireless drivers and then wifi was enabled :) and that it's detecting 5GHz and 2.4GHz band since it's a dual band wifi :)
