  1. It's something like this:

    - - - Updated - - -

Did you disable driver signing using F8 method? NVCPL set to high performance, add games/applications it's probably running optimus.

I have been using the advance restart method to disable driver signature enforcement (Is there anything wrong with that?)... NVIDIA control pannel settings is always on high performance and yes I am running Optimus mode... I'm going to install 353.62 again... Never had so much trouble making this work before...

    post-27466-14495000612955_thumb.jpg

  2. J95 I tried, however not working... Still stuck like this.. On Performance Level [0]-P8...

  3. Disable DSE, then re-install.

    Try my driver : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/46rritxlkhd0270/AAAYLmGI8lonNsXGfH-Rkvmsa?dl=0

    (I think your on a M17X-R4, right ?)

I'll try yours... I tried the modded inf from laptopvideo2go and hardly any better.. It seems no memory is being used by the GPU and clocks are stuck on low P-state... Wtf has NVIDIA released.. POS driver.. J95's inf mod is dead on and it installs etc but something is fundamentally wrong with this driver...

  4. @J95 the nvdisp file is a total fail.. Drivers install but for any game GPU is stuck at lowest power setting... it doesn't ramp up at all.. Memory usage is like <100mb.. Trying ncvif or whatever the other one is..

Edit: Have tried both, no difference. Drivers install however whenever I run game, GPU is stuck at lowest power setting which is 135/500 or something...

I even reinstalled Windows 10 since it was installed in a Legacy manner earlier and made it UEFI but I am lost and don't know what else to do...

@Lee James Wood, have you come across this bug or whatever?

  5. I can't friggin get Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 part to install. I have uninstalled all visual studio's and re-installed, but I can not get the SP1 update for 2008 to install.

The others, no problem. Anyways, XTU still does not install. Guessing it really needs the Visual Studio 2k8

I get the usual :XTU3Service could not be installed

XTU installed.. Have the latest version however getting the 0Hz processor reading bug...

  6. My downgrade was just successful...it was with stock bios and it was just like an upgrade! So I'm with a11 now and everything is okay! I will try to install the modded one when I have time. I've already broke another mobo doing the blind flash thing so I will not risk this other doing blind flash

I meant that if the downgrade had failed you would need to blind flash. So no problems with downgrade at all? I have a A13 BIOS Motherboard myself and want to flash unlocked BIOS so need to downgrade. Let us know how it goes..

  7. try to remove cmos battery!

    - - - Updated - - -

i've found out that u can just flash a11 stock from a13 and it will make u downgrade without any problem, i will flash the modded bios asap

You might want to be careful... This might cause a brick.. It's risky.. I would be prepared to do a blind flash if necessary.. Let us know how it goes though.. I need to try something like this too..

  8. Hey guys,

Im about to flash my Alienware 17 R2 Nvidia 980m tonight. I just wanted to confirm the vbios listed on page one is in fact compatible with Alienware 980m cards? Sorry for the newbie question, just dont want to brick my card...

    Thank you!

No it isn't compatible... You will brick your system. Do not flash it.. The R2 has the VBIOS integrated with the system one and there is no unlocked version.

  9. Probable cause is different the value of GPU-Z ASIC Quality. I would suggest that left card is less than 65%, therefore, IMHO, with more heat this card useless to fight. Sorry.

And you don't want to try such material Viscous Thermal Paste for Thermal Pad Replacement K5 Pro 60g 3x20g Xbox Apple | eBay, in my opinion an excellent replacement to the miseries of adjusting the thickness of thermal pads (itself yet did not try, just ordered).

I would use thermal pads on GPU... This would be a bad idea and will be troublesome to clean in the future.. Some Phobya XT pads or Fujipoly pads will be perfect...

  10. Note:

    PEG All models & Optimus/M17xR4 install using nv_whql.inf_v347.90_Desktop_GTX_TITAN X_980_970_Mobile_980M_970M_965M.zip

    Alienware 17 / 05AA Optimus install nv_whql.inf_v347.90_Optimus_GTX_980M_970M_965M.zip

    http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia/9434-geforce-347-90-mod-desktop-mobile-900-series.html#post127799

I think I'm going back to 347.88/347.90... In 350.12, I've got my memory clock getting stuck on 799Mhz randomly.. I have to literally plug and unplug my laptop (remove power cable) to reset the GPU clocks, close all 3D programs and open them... That explains some of the FPS drops I'm having..

  11. You think so ? I see in nvidia inspector that "power " doesnt go above 35% TDP do you think thats is the problem ?

Mine goes above that... Can you not get a 240W PSU easily where you are? Amazon UK has quite a few and I think even Amazon US does.. where are you located BTW? I really think your getting power limited... Have you flashed Svl7's vBIOS properly too? That's literally the 1st thing I did when I got my 970M..

Also @J95, I've tried both the nvdispi and the nvcvi... The nvdispi works best for me.. The 2 nvcvi only show the graphics driver, PhysX and GeForce experience under the stuff to be installed... The nvdispi shows theese 3 + the 3D Vision stuff + Mircast... I installed NVIDIA HD Audio through Device Manager so should be fine..

    • Thumbs Up 1
  12. Backup stock nv_dispi.inf & nvcvi.inf, start with nv_dispi.inf, then nvcvi.inf(1) -> nvcvi.inf(2).

    @TomJGX Feedback please.

J95, I guess the nvdispi_inf is the same as the previous one? Previous one installed fine for me.. No throttling etc in Optimus mode...

I will try the rest and get back to you :)

    - - - Updated - - -

I am cnofused should overwrite both "nv_dispi.inf" and "nvcvi.inf" or just "nvcvi.inf" ?

I am still getting low score either way ? Am i mssing something ? I have Modded BIOS and Driver install fine but I tried everyone

    347.90 > Black screen

    All other Throttled :(

Halo, I think the problem might be that you've got a 180W PSU... Even with 970M, your probably using a bit too much power from it causing throttling..

Driver wise, you need to install nvcvi.inf which J95 linked in his 1st post which is specifically for 970M/980M in AW 17 R1 in Optimus mode...

  13. Yep, try v344.75. WinZip should work fine
