  1. I'll try to post the mod this week.

3.05 compared to v2.07 has quite some changes.

Most importantly they locked it down, so flashing anything from 3.05 is not easily possible.

Major BIOS changes include update ME firmware, new nvidia vbios, updated intel vbios, Win8.1 acpi entry and quite some "under the hood" fixes that most won't notice I guess.

Thank you so much svl7. If this solves my sleep issues, expect a few beers in CAD currency. I've lost a lot of hair and time dealing with this bs.

  2. I just wanted to add my thanks to SVL7 for the whitelist mods. I have an early Y510P with the 1.07 BIOS. Experiencing the excessive battery drain problem when shut down, and sick of el-cheapo WiFi card.

I found the 3.05 BIOS flash here: http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/5979-bios-update-y410p-y510p-74cn44ww-v3-05-a.html

Then I backflashed it to 2.07 here (probably could've skipped the 3.05 update first, but didn't want to risk it): http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/5405-please-make-modded-y510p-bios-based-74cn44ww-v3-05-a-2.html#post77265

Then ran the whitelist mod on this thread so I could run my new 7260AC WiFi card.

The updated BIOS fixed my excessive battery drain problem. I had tried everything prior to this. Removed the wifi card, removed the SSD, disabled WOL, disabled fast startup, new battery, Energy Management app, etc. Nothing fixed it until I flashed a newer BIOS, and I was losing at a rate of 1-2% per hour when completely shut down.

BTW: Disabling Bluetooth on the 7260AC card solved the sleep problem as well. Not ideal, but I can live with it for now.

How do you disable the bluetooth? I tried device manager and disabled the bluetooth there, but that didn't solve the sleep issues... Is there another way to do it?

    Thanks

  3. Hi everyone!! Lenovo publicated BIOS update on their support site --> VERSION 3.05 probably for all HW rev. 1.xx, 2xx, 3xx Laptops and netbooks :: IdeaPad Y Series laptops :: IdeaPad Y510p Notebook - Lenovo (US), maybe now SVL can mod this bios (remove whitelist) without sleep bug or another issues for every each user... That sounds good... :)

    P.S. Sorry for my english.

That's great to hear! I wonder what the changelogs are... They've already had 3.05 out, so I'm confused about this "update" they have

  4. I've been going crazy trying to find a possible fix. I just need perfection for some awful reason! My y410p doesn't sleep at all. I've tried almost everything suggested on here (hopefully I missed the right solution somewhere...) After installing the AC 7260 and the 2.07 modified BIOS, I've tried everything to put the laptop to sleep.

    Tried to:

    - Update BT/Wifi Drivers

    - Airplane Mode

    - Disabling BT/Wifi

    - Taking out the USB dongles (mouse, etc)

So far, no luck at all. It just will NOT sleep. Did anyone get this fixed / working on 2.07 with the Intel Wireless-AC 7260?

the 2230 has horrific wifi speed. I get about 6-10Mbps connection on that, while I get 60-80Mbps on the AC... that's messed up. Can't believe they have this stupid whitelist.

  5. the answer does not seem definitive, anyone else with the aforementioned with problem. I have the same problem and it was mentioned elsewhere it is not sata3 rather sata2 instead.

Where was it mentioned that the bay was sata 2?

  6. Well, after much discussion and multiple phone calls with Lenovo Customer Support, I was able to trade in my y510p for the new Y50-70 notebook which I'm using right now. Overall, an improved laptop and I really like the 1080p screen and the 860m-GTX graphics chip. Some shortcomings: No builtin DVD drive bay, but the laptop is definitely thinner and a little lighter which is nice. Screen is not the clearest 1080p I've seen; and, wait for it......the Intel 8160-AC wireless card stinks! It is only a single stream in 802.11n (max links speed of 72Mbps!! Unbelievable - why couldn't they use the 7260-AC chipset?? Also, I removed the back cover and it is MUCH more difficult - the owner's guide says to remove all screws (more on this one), lift up the front part then slide it back and then up. Well not matter how much I tried, being careful, etc, I still broke off a couple of the little locking tabs at the back wrap around corners! So beware!! No real issues with it going back on OK (except one screw base as stripped) as the screws hold it in place pretty good. I haven't tried any different wireless cards yet, but after testing the unit today I feel changing the wireless card is a must. I'm ASSUMING they locked the BIOS but don't know yet. No modded BIOS out there yet??

Are you in Canada or the US? How'd you manage to get that trade done exactly?

    Thanks!

  7. Is anyone who recently upgraded to the AC intel cards happy with the upgrade? I'm sick and tired of slow speeds/disconnects with the stock card and am hoping to upgrade.

I've been reading around here and other places. Most people seem completely satisfied with upgrading from their awful 2230 cards. I'm planning to do the same upgrade. My cousin's HP laptop also has a 2230 wifi card, and she always complains about how awful it is... Definitely need to swap it out. The Wireless-AC 7260 seems to get good reviews though. I'd definitely go with that.

  8. Hi, I have the Y510P, with the MoBo Intel HM86 and it has:

Port 1 sATA III (6Gb/s), with the DVD reader/writer

    Port 2 sATA III (6Gb/s), with a sATA II (3Gb/s) HDD 1TB

M.2 NGFF (sATA III too?), with a sATA III (6Gb/s) SSD 24GB for cache

So it's more than probably that your Y410P has also 2 sATA III ports. I'd install the SSD in the main bay, and put in the DVD bay (HDD caddy) the HDD.

You can download HWiNFO64, install it, and click in "motherboard" to see what interface your ports have. Also you can check the storage devices's interface.

Thanks for that suggestion, I'll definitely double check it as well since I would love to know. Also, mine doesn't have a spot for ssd caching, does anyone also know if it will by default come with an empty M.2 NGFF slot?
