  1. sounds definitely interesting. for that to be profitable for clevo though, tb3 gpu enclosures will have to become a thing, and that without having to mod the crap outta ur system [emoji14]

cooling-wise, clevo wont have any issues, a W230SD like machine without dgpu, but desktop cpu instead is entirely within the realm of possibility :)

  2. how abouuuut....using three outta the four storage connectors for extra juice? im the kinda guy who prefers using a single storage medium in his machine anyways, not a big fan of raid arrays [emoji14]

sure, wouldnt make THAT much of a difference, but one could surely suck up to 30 or maybe even more additional watts from those ports and route it to the gpu :)

  3. just go with 8.1 or 10 an tweak it to your hearts content until it basically resembles win7 :) no biggie.

personally, im not missing win7 at all, 8.1 was actually a huge jump in overall system stability, far less bsods and generall issues. sure, it needs some customization with the missing start menu, lockscreen, nerfing onedrive, etc. but with a lil luv its actually not that bad. same goes for win10, although im more hesitant on a full recommend there because of the privacy issues / forced updates / screen bricking. i am using it as my daily driver though and cant complain thus far.

  4. thinner bezels! thinking about that 13" monster machine, how about cramming a 14" screen into a 13" body? even better: 17" screen into 15" body! THAT would be my absolute dream machine with exclusively m.2 ssd storage desktop cpu, powerful gpu and all the saved space filled up to the brink with heatpipe-based copper :D

  5. THIS :D >>>17.3" 4K/8K 120Hz:

    News&Event?News Release?Japan Display Inc.

    EDIT:

Clevo R&D has product meetings for 2016-17, so if you have anything to add to this thread do it now!

    Few points that came up:

    - Should we expand use of MXM desktop GPUs?

    - Should we use MXM 3.0b with Mobile BGA CPUs?

    - Should we launch 13" super monster?

    - Should we make 18.4 model?

    - How critical is storage? Shall we implement more of M.2 drives and drop 2.5" altogether?

LOL YES! i read that article yesterday and thought about implementation into laptops right away :D

as for the questions: yes on all points, although i think it would be enough to supply one desktop gpu monster in each gen. if u expand that niche too much, then its more likely to threaten the standard 3.0 B market and we dont want that to happen...just make sure NOT to artificially cripple the regular flagship mobile gpus like the 980M by installing less power phases than the board provides space for!

  6. my take on the 980 is it being physically compatible with the mxm slot but needing too much space in width and also differing installation holes to keep the mxm board down. so a p870dm would make that extra space on one end to accomodate the 980, but also have both screwhole locations in order to accomodate the regular mxm cards as well.

the gt80 has been bga cpu and regular mxm gpu thus far. additionally, the full-fledged 980 doesnt sport sli connectors as d2 mentioned, so msi should be sporting regular mxm modules ;)

  7. very nice list D2, glad u saw this thread, better late than never ;)

as for pch cooling, even at 105c it wasnt in the danger zone. those pch chips have higher tjmax values than cpus and gpus, iirc somwhere in the region of ~125c. but yeah, still worrisome to see such values under load...

  8. no worries, same goes for the ddr4, u wont see any significant improvements there ;)

as for improved I/O with usb 3.1 and tb3, its only interesting if u plan to go egpu down the line. even the m.2 pcie gen 3.0 slots cannot really be used atm, since there are no drives that would even fully saturate 4 gen 2.0 lanes ;)

so no worries my friend, our machines just got a slight update in terms of performance and not true successors :)

  9. Sure, there is a list of many EU Clevo dealer here.

Nope. I agree a physical mux like for the new P6 models would have been nice!

But for P7 they have a proud "No switching graphics, no input delay" in their internal bringing up guides. VR here we come... :)

so @Prema, just so that i dont get you wrong here: does this mean the new P6 skylake series will get a physical mux or rather "it would be nice to have", especially for machines like the new P6 series? :D

  10. hmmm, based on my own wattage numbers and shaving off ~40W to make up for the desktop vs. mobile cpu u should be fine with the 180W adapter. IF u leave everything at stock, that is ;)

ull have to ask eurocom for shipping costs, but ull definitely have to pay import tax! considering that, wouldnt it make more sense for you to buy the 980M here?

    http://www.ceg-hardcorecustom.com/category/mobile_gpu_nvidia

theyre based in germany, give you 12 months warranty through any local clevo service center and ull also save on the shipping costs and NO import taxes (inside EU). might come out the same or cheaper than eurocom, but imho the warranty is worth it :)

  11. My latest AND best thus far :D Thx to CLU im finally able to go up to 4.8 Ghz stable on my CPU without throttling (not on hot summer days though *lol*) i think thats about as far as i can push my system, CPU / GPU / RAM all completely maxxed out and on the bleeding edge of their stability :P (sorry about the NBR, didnt make another screenie for a TI version :P )

  12. update drivers to newest version, make sure ure running on high performance energy option, check ur clocks via gpu-z or hwinfo while running the benchmark, make sure the clocks reach their intended settings. also keep an eye on temps, not that ur gpu is throttling in any way...

  13. yes and no :) u can do a raid 0 with two m.2 drives in pcie 2x mode or sata mode. once u install a pcie 4x drive, the other slot wont work for raid anymore.

since a single pcie 4x drive will be basically as fast as a raid 0 pcie 2x setup, it doesnt really make sense to go for the raid 0 option tho...
