  1. Is there a way to handle Optimus in any way? I sometimes boot into Windows and my internal MB display is turned off, because the Intel Iris GPU isn't recognized. Without the Iris GPU I have different Nvidia options, that are not available when the Intel Iris is available as well. E.g. without the Intel Iris I can set and use Nvidia DSR (downsampling) in games to play in 4k on a full HD display. As soon as the Intel Iris is installed, I don't have that option anymore...
  2. The 5k resolution is achieved by a trick by apple (not sure if it's 2xDP together or a chip overclock). Maybe that can't be done when an eGPU is installed.
  3. @maarten Sure, you can (like I did) use the cable on the lower right. That is the 8-Pin EPS ATX power cable for the mainboard with yellow (12V) and black (ground) cables. Since that cable is especially to give a lot of power to the CPU I would say it is perfect to use for the barrel plug. The load from the AKiTiO and PCIe slot can be more than 90W.
  4. I made a 8-pin EPS (the mainboard plug) -> barrel plug two days ago. Working great:
  5. @razvani Sorry, no more pictures, because the eGPU is in the mail But that plug can be been on the first post with the DA-2 plugged in. From the backside the cut is on the right of the case screw and the plug itself snuggles into the gap that is inside the case betwen the back of the case and the lower end of the GPUs i/o shield. On your picture it would be the very bottom left from the inside.
  6. @xorgal Glad it's working. And don't get in trouble with the german police: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNjG22Gbo6U
  7. I think it might be the PCIe box, since it looks like the Thunder2 and they are talking about PCIe based SSDs. This is not AKiTiOs external storage for SATA drives! The link is just a search shopping machine and I selected laptops with TB3... Since it is from europe it might not have the whole list of TB3 laptops. Maybe check out nandos link.
  8. @ZapCord Awesome! Having Windows 10 working with Optimus as well (15" mid 2014 MBPr). Can you confirm that the internal display is limited to 60FPS? E.g. try Ungine Heaven/Valley at the lowest settings possible and look at the FPS counter.
  9. The Mac Pro seems to have problems with eGPUs in Windows 10… MVC announced eGPU support on a nMP for Windows in the netkas forum. But that is already 2? month ago. Since he isn't sharing any information at all you will have to be patient.
  10. Sorry, I can't help you with the EXP GDC Beast. But if the EXP GDC Beast gets the power from the same PSU, you should be able to get the power directly from the PSU for the GPU!
  11. More details please!!! You have to power the GPU with both plugs! Also your eGPU base has to get power too and enough power as well, to be able to power the GPU from the slot, too.
  12. How is what possible? The GPU should start, when the AKiTiO is connected to the Mac.
  13. @davidexD Please more details on your system! Are all power plugs connected to the GPU? What about the barrel plug, you did the barrel mod to molex? PSU is switched "on" on the back and paperclip trick is done? The AKiTiO is connected via TB to the Mac?
  14. There you go: http://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=nb&xf=31_Thunderbolt+3#gh_filterbox
  15. Please first try and only use the 300W PSU of the Sonnet. Just split the power cable to the amount of plugs you need (from the one 6-Pin of the Sonnet to two 6-Pins). Nobody tried to power the Sonnet with another PSU and especially with a GTX960 I don't see a reason why.... I am currently using a KFA2 GTX970 Gamer OC, also known under the brand Galax GTX970 Gamer OC. Take a look at this builds: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7855-2012-mac-mini-gtx97010gbps-tb1-sonnet-iii-d-win81-eoiz/ https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/6181-2014-15-macbook-pro-iris-gtx98016gbps-tb2-sonnet-iii-d-win81-mrhappypills/
  16. I have a really bad feeling about your setup and mixing that 6/8-Pin plugs from different power supplies. Ok here is what I think. You got the Sonnet III-D, right? That huge Sonnet Case with beefy PSU. The GTX 960 G1 needs 2x6-Pin PCIe plugs. You can try and get a 6-Pin PCIe splitter (y-cable) and make two out of that single 6-Pin. With the Gigabyte card you made a rather unlucky choice since the G1 line can draw a LOT of power (peak loads). But it should still work.
  17. 1. owwwwww 2. with 1. Of course you need ALL power plugs to be connected to the GPU! All the time… How is the Sonnet powered? With the Sonnet PSU?
  18. The Dell DA-2 PSU is working perfectly fine for any GTX up to a GTX970. A stock GTX970 is only using sth about 145W and any power recommendations from the GPU manufactures is for the whole PC. Since all GTX970 on the market are overclocked and free to use more power 220W is perfect for it. Did you read about the barrel plug mod? You should power the GPU and the AKiTiO from one PSU.
  19. Any... even benchmarks. There shouldn't be any limit at all.
  20. Can anyone else confirm a 60FPS cap on the internal display? No matter what settings I choose, I can't exceed 60FPS.
  21. Yeah should work! Would consider upgrading to Windows 10? Also make sure that you power the AKiTiO from that 500W PSU (btw what PSU is it?). Maybe consider a Dell DA-2? https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7947-the-basic-egpu-hardware-guide-for-macs/
  22. 12V has to be on the inner part of the barrel plug. Outer part should be ground. Take a look here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7857-visual-guide-opening-the-akitio-thunder-2-pcie-box-and-powering-via-a-barrel-plug/&do=findComment&comment=119043
