Sorry again if this has been asked already, but now that I finally got my GTX 670, I can make the eGPU-System of my dreams. However, in some games (like GTA 4), the FPS aren't better than before, probably due to the fact the bandwith still limits a bit. Now, unfortunately, I cannot check whether optimus compaction is activated or not, so I'd like to now if you have any tips to at least partially improve performance? I'm using an external monitor, of course. I'm asking this because I know I'll have to use this system for a while until a decent thunderbolt notebook arrives.

@Arise I know, but they're those ASUS Gsomething gamer pieces. I'd like a notebook without discrete GPU and exchangeable CPU in a small form factor with high battery life. That's why I'm asking. I'd buy a macbook, but the CPUs are not really fast (top models cost waaaaay too much). So there actually is nothing left.

Is there a notebook with two express card slots and sandy/ivy-bridge cpu or with a express card and mpcie slot that can be combined? This would pretty much give the ultimate egpu experience.

I'm sorry if somebody has asked this already, I just couldn't find the answer in the last few posts. Is it possible to make a 2.2 connection with the PE4C using a HP 2570p? This would be just what I need, as my GTX 570 is getting bottlenecked quite alot. By the way, what am I supposed to do to make that i7 3720QM benchmark you asked of, nando?

Watch Dogs really needs a huge amount of VRAM. 2GB isn't enough anymore, on High settings, WD can use up to 3 GB and on Ultra, it uses about 4,1GB VRAM. If you happen to buy a eGPU or new notebook, you have to mak sure the graphics card has enough video memory. Few days ago, I saw some guys complaining about how their GTX 770 couldn't handle Watch Dogs even on lowest settings, and it was always because of the VRAM.

OK, after two weeks of contacting the support because of the broken cable, they told me that they cannot send me another one. I will get 10% of the 50 dollars back. 5 dollars. NICE! I paid 50 dollars for shipping for an adapter that does not work because of the damned cable. Very nice offer, they told me I could send the whole stuff back so that I can get the new adapter, BUT: I have to pay shipping again: 2x50 dollars. A**holes. Not to mention the PSU has a very loud and deep coil whine, sounds like it would explode. And I'm not fully using its power, just 140 watts. I will sell this piece of crap to someone who has a hdmi-express card cable (like from the PE4H) because I do not know where I could buy it from. And I cannot recommend anyone to buy this trash unless you live in China as the support sucks and there's always a chance it could be broken.

Perfect, thank you very much! I think I'll buy a crimp wrench for this, I heard it's better than soldering.

Does anybody know if the PE4L 2.1b needs the 5V cable when connecting the floppy cable? I've got the Dell 220W PSU with 8 Pins (3x12V, 3xGND, 2xRemote) from the EXP GDC V6 and I'd like to solder a little cable I can connect the PE4L 2.1b to it.

@bruggi You don't have to worry about that ec sign thing, I bought the adapter just as well and I'm in Germany. The only thing is that you probably will have to pay customs (which for me was about 23€). However, I had some problems with my EXP GDC, it seems the cable is broken. If you ask me, I'd recommend either getting the new PE4C 1.2 or the good old PE4L 2.1b, then you can be sure they'll run flawlessly.

Did the 4 pin connector from the psu or from the exp gdc burn? What power supply are you using? Does it have "native" 6 pin pcie cords? if yes, I'd recommend using them
-
Ouch, that sounds disgusting Can you make a picture of the whole stuff hoocked up but turned off? I can't understand why it does not work as I don't have any problems with the hardware.
-
Thanks, the sound definitely comes from the power brick. It's some kind of crackling and cracking sound. I think the GTX 570 consumes more power than the 670, right? Maybe it's the psu being stressed too much as it runs flawlessly in idle-mode. @coyote It seems that you have to connect the EXP GDC to your notebook and power it up to make it work. This is very nice if you ask me as you can't forget to turn off your egpu anymore.

Hello, the EXP GDC V6 I recently ordered arrived today. It is a nice piece of hardware, but I am ashamed to admit that I don't even know how to use it The PE4L 2.1b always worked alright. I just plugged it in and everything worked. Now with the GDC V6, I plug in the Dell PSU (the power brick), connect the 6 pin cables to the gtx 570 and turn on my notebook. Results: nothing. The adapter's light turns blue, that's all. Nothing in the device manager, setup 1.x. Am I doing something wrong? Turning that little switch changes nothing I am using a "heavily modded" (for air flow) HP 2570p with an i7 3720QM CPU and 8 gigs of ram. thank you! best regards, uftherr Edit: It sems it only works somethimes However, i plugged it the egpu. seems to be working well right now, so I wanted to test if the Dell PSU is enough for the GTX 570. I wanted to stress it a little so ran furmark. The power brick makes weird sounds while running that, though it did not crashed. I ran it about 30 secs, then got "scared". jacobsson, does this also happen to you?

I'd like to ask why I get a high cpu usage (the process "system" is causing it) right after plugging in the egpu in windows? Killing the process causes bluescreen.- 1884 replies

Before I buy the PE4H 3.2, I'd like to ask if it really can be the bad wires causing the problems. I noticed that GEN2 works for a while, I can pretty much do everything for 5-10 minutes in Windows, but then the driver (335.23) crashes and resets all the time, the screen switching from the external monitor to the internal display (if I'm lucky enough not to get a bluescreen). This also happens when I start a game (like Risen 2), play it and then close it. Could it be a driver problem? I simply do not understand what causes these problems, and I don't want to "waste" my money on another adapter just to recieve the same issues. Offtopic: MW3 lags quite a lot and Risen 2 lags in the menu but ingame it's quite playable. I guess it's because of the low bandwith, am I right? And I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU from a i5 3340M Dual-Core to a i7 3630QM or even a i7 3940XM. Do you think the CPU could overheat in a 14" case? I am aware that I might need to buy a bigger PSU as the TDP is higher. Thank you very much in advance!
