  1. optimus is there, but without switch between Intel hd-egpu function.this mode is only available in the internal screen mode since the Intel hd is not conected to external monitor.

    Hallo

Thanks, thats explain why my egpu not switched to Intel HD when a simple tasks are engaged

By the way, may I know how is your system setup..? Is your laptop using the UEFI or Legacy Bios when you installed the eGPU..? I just heard some incompability between the UEFI and some GPU ( I use GTX 780 )

    Thanks

  2. Hallo

May I ask. How can I know, if in my vaio SVZ the Optimus activated..?

On the previous vaio VPCZ1 with pcie 1.1, it is definetely easier. If I can get 10k++ 3DMark06 score, that mean the Optimus is active. But how in the vaio SVZ with a pcie 2.0..? Obviously the score would be more than 10k++

I ask this since something weird happend. I use nvidia control panel, and check the box, to let me know, which GPU I use currently. As long as I use the external monitor, it looks like the nvidia GPU always active, and never switched between Nvidia and Intel HD4000 ( Looks like no Optimus ). And when I switched to internal LCD, the Intel HD4000 active, and Nvidia idle

    Thanks for your help

  3. Hallo TI Member

I just installed my eGPU System with this spesification :

    - Sony Vaio SVZ

    - i7 3612QM

    - HM77 CHipset

    - Intel HD 4000

    - Asus GTX 780 6GB Strix OC Edition

    - PE4C V2.1

After I got it, I did a bis flash mod. Everything just go smooth. But after some time after booting ( aprox. 20 or 30 min after laptop booting ), sometime I got a BSOD. On the BSOD I saw something about Video Card it self, but I can not read everything, since after BSOD, my system just shut down

Then I check the Mini Dump File, and read it with WinDBG and I got a information from that Mini Dump like I posted. Its being said, that the cause was : nvlddmkm.sys ( nvlddmkm+921828 )

May be have you got some experience like this..? Or is this because my PSU dont give enough power..? Or it is because a Bios mod flash...?

    thanks for your help

  4. The LED will switch on for the time delay you've set it to. Need to power off and then on the PE4C V2.1 to restart the timeout counter.

    Hallo Nando4

Thanks, already managed it to work again

By the way, what is actually CLKREQ..? I read it from another egpu forum v2.0, and someone tell, that it is used if a additional external clock needed. But for what exactly..?

    thanks

  5. In the last week, I hotplugged my PE4C V2.1 into the EC slot and found it had damaged some PE4C V2.1 circuitry such that the Dell DA-2 auto power on functionality no longer works. Now the DA-2 would *always* be on, regardless if the machine was on or not. That was traced to a suspected blown switch-on transistor 2N7002 (Q2). CLKREQ# is also controlled by a 2N7002 transistor so it may very well be blown for you too.

    Hallo Nando4

    Thanks for reply.

I just make some experience. The red led for CLKREQ will turn on if I switch from disable to Nr. 2 ( turning on just few seconds, then the light turn off again ). Is this a normal..? Is that led supposed to turn on all the time if the switch in position 2 or 3..?

And how about the led for PERST..? It doesn not turn on at all

By the way, I try this experiment without any GPU attached since my new GPU still on delivery. Or is that possible, the both LED will turn on if I already attached the GPU on the adapter..?

    Thanks for your help

  6. Hallo

    got a PE4C V2.1 today

But something weird. The PERST and CLKREQ Led are not turning red ( on ) when I am not in disable mode. First time I set it to Mode Nr. 2, the Led turn on, but after I try to set it Mode Nr. 3, then back to Nr.2 again, then the red led are not turning on again

    Is this a faulty..?

    thanks

  7. Thanks Nando4

I already checked the link you mentioned

Somehow I was amazed. I saw some benchmark review of 780 and the score for 3Dmark13 ist approx. 12000. That it is almost no performance lost if using GTX 780 with PE4C V2.1 even in just x1 from the link you send ( 3Dmark13 14069 )

Correct me if I am wrong

    Thanks

  8. there is no impact performance regarding x1 and x16 sockets,ONLY if you can dou x2 configuration, wich is only alowed in chipset older than Intel 6 chipset series.in another words one hdmi input represent one lane of x16 no matter if the socket is x1 or x16.i like most the x16 sockets adapter since they give the graphics card more fisicall stability.wich is importatnt is that the adapter have gen2 functionality.take your time and choose the one that it has more advantage (cost, future proof,quality.....))

you can find all the information in this fórum.

    Good luck!

    Hi

    Thanks

decided to buy the PE4L v2.1b since the PE4C v2.1 use flex cable

  9. PE4C V2.0 has a x2 2.0 capability wired to the x16 slot.

    However, x2 2.0 on a mPCIe/EC equipped port would require the correct [p1+2], [p3+4], [p5+6], [p7+8] electrical port combo.

THEN the technical challenge just beings. To get a x2 2.0 link negotiated would need the firmware descriptor unlocked, a BIOS dump taken and then the BIOS modified using the Intel FITC utility to set the required port to x2 as opposed to the default x1. That is quite a technical and challenging process of which NOBODY has yet done as yet. SO challenging that I usually say that x2 via combining ports is no longer possible since Intel locked down that feature of the Series-6 chipset (2nd gen i-core) and thereafter. The locking was coincidentally done as they released Gen2 (pci-e 2.0) Southports.

    Hi Tech Inferno Fan

    Thanks for the explanation

By the way, I'm still a little confused. If I see the Bplus website, there is already listed the new PE4C v2.1. Which one should I buy, a x1 PE4L 2.1b or x16 PE4C v2.1..? The one, that make me confused is the x1 or x16 socket on the adaptor ( and performance impact between x1 and x16 ). And which one you recomended me for my system since the price difference is not so big

    Vaio SVZ131CHXXI

    i7 3612QM

    HM77 Chipset

    Intel HD4000

    Thanks for your help

  10. BPlus have not produced a fully certified Gen2-capable product with a detachabe mHDMI cable on the PM3N board. Saying that, I have success using a AMD 7970 card with a PE4H 2.4 + PCIEMM-060B at Gen2 speed on a HP 2570P, though a GTX670 failed. http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2109-diy-egpu-experiences-%5Bversion-2-0%5D-142.html#post55765

    Another T|I user, dan, bettering my result by getting his MSI GE620DX to run a Gen2 speed with a PE4H 2.4 + GTX750Ti PCIEMM-060B (mPCIe): http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/7479-%5Bguide%5D-15-msi-ge620dx-gtx750ti%40x1-2opt-pe4h-2-4-mpcie-win7-64-a.html#post102604 . There's obviously a hit-and-miss in trying to duplicate his results.

    Hallo Tech Inferno Fan

Before I buying a eGpu adapter, I need some enlightment about the pci lanes x4, x8, and x16

I am a little confused about that, since I used usually a pe4h with x16 lanes, and the pe4l if I am not mistaken just have x4 lanes. The problem is, I a little confused to buy a pe4l with x4 lanes or pe4c v2.0 with x16 lanes.

Is there will be any performance impact with these different adapter if I use something like GTX 7XX ..? And if you see my AIDA64 pcie controller, which lanes can I get ( x4 or x16 )..?

    Thanks for your enlightment

  11. Expresscard/mPCIe port is on the Southbridge, which has a max specification of PCIe 2.0 in the Series-7 HM77 chipset. No vendor has used the PCIe 3.0 specced northbridge to accomodate one of those ports.

    Hallo Tech Inferno Fan

Thanks for your explanation. You helped me a lot before in another thread while I did VPCZ1 eGpu

I thnik, it is not a big problem now. I just read, that the pcie 2.0 performance almost same with pcie 3.0. The reason why people want buying the 3.0 motherboard just for increasement performance in SLI

By the way Tech Inferno Fan, can you confirm that my tolud is lower than 3,5GB..?

  12. Hallo

For the SVZ owner, is there is a possibility to force the system using PCIE 3.0 instead PCIE 2.0..?

I just read, that the i7 3612QM and HM77 Chipset support the PCIE 3.0, but from AIDA64 my system just using PCIE 2.0

And after read that there is possibility to force using PCIE 3.0 instead PCIE 2.0 :

  13. Hallo TI Member

Just upgradet my sony vaio VPCZ1 ( 2010 ) with eGPU to sony vaio SVZ. Here is the spec :

    - Intel core i7 3612QM 2,1GHz up to 3,1GHz Turbo boost

    - Intel HM77 Chipset

    - Integrated Intel HD4000 without any dedicated GPU

Also I have some question before I purchased the PE4L. After looking my PCI Tolud, it seems my tolud is under 3,25GB ( see picture ). Thats mean it should just plug and play after I plugged the eGPU. But, after I looking this thread, why some people using setup 1x..?

    http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2158-diy-egpu-guide-sony-vaio-vpc-z2-svz13-2.html

Is that necessary to use setup 1x, if the Tolud already under 3,25..?

    Thanks for your help

  14. I'm tired and maybe I'm saying something stupid, but... can't you use hdmi audio? That relies on the graphics card, as far as I know.

    Hi

Btw, how to do that with HDMI audio..? Is that mean I need to buy a speaker with a HDMI cable to connect to my eGpu.? Or can I use my laptop internal speaker again...?( I thougt my laptop internal speaker sound chip is broken, but not the speaker )

    thanks

  15. Hi TI member

I already have a eGPU for months. But since my laptop's internal speaker is broken, then I tried search any possibility to use a desktop sound card on my laptop too

Then I have any thought, that is it possible to use a eGPU and desktop sound card with a same time..? Then I googling, and found something interesting too : a dual m-pcie to pcie express adapter like this link :

Mini PCI Express to Dual PCI Slots Adapter Mini PCI E Riser Card for PCI Card | eBay

May be have you some experience with stuff like that to make eGPU work pararel with sound card.?

    thanks for your help

  16. Hallo

I already have an eGpu installed on my computer

here is my system spec :

    - Vaio VPCZ1 i7 640M

    - Hm57 Chipset ( pcie 1.1 )

    - Asus GTX 660 with intel HD for optimus

    - always using external monitor

here is my problem : After using my eGpu for a past months, I didn't find any problem regarding fps or anything. I use my eGpu for playing hard game like Starcraft ( ultra setting ) or Race Driver Grid ( ultra setting ). Both with 1080p resolution and I got at least 40 fps minimal to more than 100 fps maksimal. And if I activate Vsync I got for both almost constan 60 fps

But, I just installed counter strike global offensive, and I use ultra setting too. But I just got maximal 40, and minimal 20 fps ( even Vsync off, and very low setting )

Is there any problem with my system.? Or it's because GTX 660 bandwidth limited.? Or may be because CS GO's programm stilln't optimized..?

    thanks

  17. Yeah, something is definitely wrong... Do you power up the eGPU during boot or when you're inside windows?

    Hi Jacobsson

    I already tried both method.

fisrt method : turn on egpu but expresscard slot didn't connected to laptop. Boot then connect the express card when appear 4 windows logo. But no good result

second method : connect express card while in windows. But no good too

third method : Turn on egpu, and connected while appear vaio logo. Not good too

Or shold I use the SW1 or SW3 switch in this case..? I use default mode ( no delay ) every time since I read somewhere in this forum, that it should be at defaul ( no delay )

    thanks

  18. Hallo Nando4

By the way I need your help again

For my vaio Z1 Series with schwitchable intel HD + GT330M ( There is a schwitch to change from Nvidia to Intel on the keyboard - Hybrid system )

My question : I did uninstall the driver for GT 330M before I installed the GTX 660. But actually can I Install a same Nvidia driver on my laptop ( one for GTX 660 desktop driver, and one for GT 330M mobile driver )

Would a software crash will occur...?

After I installed GTX 660, then I switch back to GT 300M, the GT 330M didin't recognized the driver

    thanks

  19. I think you misunderstood me, my suggestion was to buy a notebook that is quad-core compatible, preferably Ivy bridge.

I agree, the expresscard slot is super convenient compared to mPCIe.

You could always go for a cheaper build with expresscard slot like the "Clevo W130ev" or maybe a "Fujitsu A532" from eBay.

EDIT: Or the Dell Latitude E6430!

By the way, I found something strange with my laptop when it shut down

If I don't remove the eGpu, then my windows willn't shutdown. a little hang on the shutdown screen. I waited it for 5 minutes but stilln't shutting down

If I removed with safety device symbol, then it will do the same thing too

That's why I must push the on/off button and force it to shut down

    any advice..?
