@jcagara08
Damn crazy stuff, must say I like it!
I currently don't have nice setup, it looks more like a disaster of electronics atm
I can of course upload some photos of the current state if you'd like.
EDIT: Yeah the scores are pretty nice, but I have sort out my power issues before considering any OC, I think my problem lies in the power to slot itself, maybe the 900-series is more 'PCIe slot hungry' than current generation? I have some time later tonight to look at it.
Maybe they saw your post sue them jacobsson! LOL
Yeah did you get the reference GTX 970 and for how much? How about the temps?
Lovely reference design, I would want to use that and put it inside that EXP GDC V6 ACRYLIC enclosure....NEXT YEAR!!!
Dying for a TB2 setup, heck bring on Thunderbolt 3 Intel!!!

Hi guys.
Just wanted to share some performance info from my newly arrived Zotac GTX 970.
3DMARK06: GPU: 21049 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3740QM Processor,ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. G46VW
3DMARK11: GPU: 10980 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3740QM Processor,ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. G46VW
3DMARK Vant: crashed right in the beginning of CPU test 2 (which seems to be a bug), anyone familiar with this please help me!
3DMARK13: 'hard crashes' right after the wing suit demo (she enters the cave), right now I'm investigating if my DA-2 (custom cabling) is to weak on some 12V rail since it indicates on overload.
I did measure up to 175W (!!!) in 3DMARK13, which makes me think all this "146W TDP talk" is waaay off.
Ran Borderlands 2 for ~20min for a test: 1080P, Physx = High, no significant slow downs / fps drops!
This game has been unplayable with my GTX 670 with Physx above low.
Such remarkable results mate! But you can probably hit more scores when your i7 and GTX 970 will be OCed a little bit
Can you post images of your new sweet and powerful setup?
By the way, I was reminded of your setup with this;
Some new random company selling monitors where you can assemble PC components from the backside of it, CRAAZY!

Gaming performance will be bottlenecked by TDP,heat, and power limits.
Nice for an HTPC, might support 4K streaming?
Thunderbolt option for eGPU and or eGPU via mini PCIe slot will be feasible LOL

2013 Macbook Pro with Intel Iris Pro + DIY eGPU Sonnet III 3d TB2 + GTX 780 SLI = WIN!
Agree much?
Anyone ditto on my idea?

Hi there! I`d not like to buy this card on its own. But Txordi might be happy...
Best regards
phila
Oops my bad!

880M?
and the 980M is just around the corner?

GTX 980M preferably in SLi

Kinda noobish answer here: but even if you can lay your hands on an piece (which will not be that easy as those cards in general will go directly into the notebookproduction) it seems to be somewhat difficult to upgrade a notebook even if the cards use the same mxm slot. This has something to do with the periphery has to match as well. A friend of mine managed to use a 680m in an older clevo model but this allready involved editing the bios of the motherboard I guess. Of course in this forums there should be people who could do this, but unfortunately it is not simple plug and play.
Best regards
phila
Probable Keywords for you my friends to obtain this gpu in the future; "upgrademonkey" "eBay"
"GTX 980M MXM"

Hi everyone.
Just reviewing the http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/6578-implementations-thunderbolt-expresscard-mpcie-egpus.html#post89707 and seeing there's a need to normalize the shorthand bandwidth designations given to give a cleaner, at-a-glance ranking.
This is what we are looking at so far with my suggest naming to
Previously we referred to x1.2Opt, 1.1Opt, etc. Those are 5Gbps/2.5Gbps links with PCIe compression on. After the 8B/10B encoding encoding overhead those links drop down to 4Gbps/2Gbps.
Anybody want to weigh on any better shorthand designation for the bandwidths we are dealing with?
Yes I definitely would want to go with this naming scheme since it is very confusing to identify setups and speeds across all different implementations, heck NGFF and thunderbolt 3 are also upcoming to add to the confusion later so I guess this will make a naming schema of eGPU to be uniform and easy to understand for enthusiasts and beginners alike.

Yes i am asking for egpu adapter only that which gpu will be compatible on egpu adapter using x1.Opt as i have 1st Genration i3 cpu
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Most probably the available egpu adapters are backwards compatible bud, if youll go with the EXP GDC V6/V7 you need to choose a card with a TDP rating below 200 Watts

OMG It has not been released for PC? Did not know that!
Will sign for it soon

I think their philosophy now is Pre orders first (make the money come in), console release, sales study, then PC release (think GTA V)

not single speck of dust mate I'm afraid, they (AMD) are most probably preparing for a desktop GPU as an answer to that GTX 980 release

I have notebook (msi ge 60 0nc) withnout thunderbolt or free mini pci-e slot. Can i use mSata as mini pci-e?
This question is tough, it depends if your BIOS has whitelisted this slot which means it may not detect third party devices inserted in it and will give a halt during bootup and will give a message that "device is not supported please remove it"
Why not purchase en eGPU adapter and experiment with it, if it does not work resell it

So what will happen with the notebooks and buyers for mobilr cards with 880M something? Early adopters dilemma? Not me

Which GPU is compatible for Lenovo G560 using Express slot?

OMG buddy try to do some little reading of topics posted by Nando4, guaranteed you can figure it out as I did for my Lenovo G500..good luck!

Thank you for the reply! I will go ahead with the affordable option of the AKiTiO Thunder 2. I really wish there was an affordable full sized PCI-E option.
Here will by my configuration. Hopefully it will work out.
-MPB 15" - GT750M
-Silver Stone Strider Plus 500W PSU - This looks like it will be the smallest option for a 500W PSU, incase I want to construct an enclosure around it. Are there any good posts about how to build one?
This is goint to be both awesome and history defining moment! You will be the new Prophet of the eGPU world bud and I am predicting it! LOL

So I tried this to my Lenovo G500 which has the same default software of dust cleaning and well what do you know, it works too!
I just could not stand the noise, it distracts me during my gaming sessions
Thanks and very nice software mr OP!
I will try to test the temps soon as I find time!

Just to let you know I received this answer from BP support about this bug I was asking for:
PE4C v2.0 is bug free,
And PE4c V2.1 has more function added.
Well this is good news to all eGPU enthusiasts!
-
I ordered yesterday PE4C V2.0, they confirmed me the ac power adapter is compatible with European 220v/50hz standard so I will need just an USA->EU adapter for few bucks.
Exactly, please post images of your setup soon too!
-
I've just ordered a Sapphire 7950 Boost to be used as eGPU.
I want now to order the EC connection kit, choosing among PE4C and EXP GDC.
I was to choose for EXP GDC due to the availability of the whole package, with also an enclosure. I have anyway difficulties finding the PCIe splitter.
PE4C is coming with 8pin-->2x8pin Y splitter that's exactly what I need.
If the base is't stable I can make without enclosure, my last concern is: the 7950 Boost does have a TDP of 225w, the AC adapter sold with PE4C can make it?
Appear that Dell DC-2 sold with EXP GDC can work with this GPU http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/6643-exp-gdc-v6-discussion-30.html#post102981, want to be sure the same is for PE4C.
Also I'm in continental Europe, can I change the power plug provided with the AC adapter?
Yes you can try asking your yoybuy agent to provide you a UK EU style plug, they gave me one for free does not hurt to ask =)

Is anyone here? Is this thread still alive or closed down?
Perhaps there might be an alternative to this software?

Yep, maybe you are the first one here who confirms that I noticed that some of those cards support HDMI 2.0, which means 4K@60FPS (of course the display and the computer has to support as well).
Does that mean we have to buy new types of HDMI ot DVI cables?

Your statement is indeed useful! Did you made a setup already?
I am too much busy testing my rig, recently my system is now having the sleep bug issue, I did a little research and I found that this issue is sporadic with old AMD cards such as the Radeon HD 7XXX series. What happens is that once your CPU and GPU is under load (apps games) suddenly monitor goes black but both Laptop and eGPU is on and working but nothing is being displayed on the monitor as if in "Sleep Mode" and there is no choice but to hold power button and reboot system, tonight I will by trying it the newly released AMD Catalyst 14.9 WHQL drivers and see if the issue is still present.
