1. After much fiddling with my system and these Clevo cards + some great tips from my buddy @Mr. Fox I finally joined the 17k gpu and 14k overall club. Guess these crappy Clevo's were able to put on the big boy pants and join Dell: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2920XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 score: P14215 3DMarks Of course thanks goes to @svl7 since all of us would be pissed about NVIDIA gimping these cards had our resident vbios genius not gotten passed their bullshit. Also props to @johnksss for keeping us excited enough to continue the chase.

Very nice indeed.

Nice work Brother Fox!
4. Hey svl7, good to see your back. Is it possible for you to increase the voltage on the dell bios that you posted , it's the one with no limit on core. I think you called it "dellNEW"

I tried it and you can set the clock to what ever you please and I check the afterburner graph and they do change but with the lack of over voltage it is now stable and get low performance.

5. Sup guys? Currently not at home and don't really have access to the Internet, I'll try to answer your questions once I'm back.

Annie the Eagle: The M18x R2 still doesn't support ocing per software, you'll need to wait for a Dell bios update, or maybe I can patch together something when I'm back. Can't promise this though

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Hey svl7 , would it be possible for you to build a Dell bios for my m18xr2 sli set up with unloocked overclocking with a 1.0 overvolt. I tried the unlocked overclock bios you had posted but has a max volt less the the OV/OC edition.

6. Current Nvidia cards always throttle with Kombustor / Furmark, and that's good, at least as long as you don't want to kill your card.

I'm not sure what's causing the bouncing, past experiments have shown that it also happens with increased voltage, I'll see that I can put up some more mods when I find time. At the moment the weather is just too nice to spend all the time in front of the PC :)

Good to hear, but I'm slightly confused, are you talking about the vbios or bios?

The v-bios. Just scored P12001 on 3d mark 11. Will post screen shot later.

7. Yes, it's also for the M18x. However you may have noticed that R4 users have throttling issues at higher clocks, even with the stock vbios... I'm not sure how exactly the M18x R2 behaves, but as far as I know there are also throttling problems at higher clocks...

Let me know how it goes when you flash the vbios. It's possible that there's not throttling at lets say 800-820MHz, in that case I can still prepare such a vbios so that M18x users can enjoy higher speeds as well. After all it seems that the M18x can't be overclocked by software, at least not at the moment.

Thanks for the reply. I will defiantly try your bios when I get the system up and running. Great work on this svl7. I will keep you and everyone else informed.

8. Hey guys, great thread. Been gone for a bit and am waiting for delivery of my m18xr1 with 680 sli in a couple days. So is the bios listed for dell 680m on first page good to go on the m18x-r2 or is it only for the 17x-r4 ? I've flashed my ati cards lots but this will be the first nvidia system I've owned so kinda steep learning curve for a while. Thanks for the help in advance.

9. WELL I had some problems and got no where.. the techs in my area suck.. they damaged my laptop.. i needed a motherboard swap..well i didnt need it but alienware seemed to think so before they would swap out my old 460ms..

but when the tech came out.. the first one told me he would not work on my system and tried to just leave.. so i told him to call his boss.. his boss sent some one else out who tried the same thing.. finaly convieced him the second guy to do the swap real quick.. and he damaged the little ribon that conects the media button to the MB.. the little brown conector that holds the ribbon in place on the mother board side.. he scratched my system broke the bezel around the keyboard..

And a few other things.. well my gpus still were acting up s i called alienware and they said they would swap out my cards with the 6990s from the 460 if i bought 2 years worth of warranty for 1050 bucks.. so i did.. then they didn't want to let me install them my self and the techs refused to come out again and do it..lol.. i spent hours on the phone and finaly convinced them i was able to do the job.. when i got it my system i found the clips broke i mentioned before.. stuff unplugged.. screws missing... so i email a level 3 tech guy that was on another forum and explained my problem... and told him i need to be compensated.. that this was unacceptable.. and i told him id like the 7970s.. he said ok..np and sorry for all the trouble.. it was the first cool thing alienware has done for me and my m18x-r1 since owning the laptop..

I still have those clips broke but i still have warranty and its been noted that the tech messed up.. in hind sight i should of asked for the red body be snt to me or at least the screen lol with the red cover..

And that is how i got my 7970s.. i didn't buy them.. Dell was just plain awesome in taking care of the problem..

but on a side note.. i called in about the drivers to see when they would be released and why the m17x-r4 drivers would work for me and they tried to get me to return these for the 6970s..lol and the phone rep was kinda insistent that i do it..I told him they was no way in hell id go backwards since the cards i just had were 6990s..why he thought it was of to get me to try and take the 6970s? he said that the 6970s were all he could offer me.. I told him that was unacceptable..and that if he wanted these cards back he would have to upgrade my whole system to the same speced system but in the m18x-r2.. and that i was disappointed that he would even consider it was ok to try to get me to send the cards back to him..

So you installed them? Do you happen to remember the part number for cards? (747r2)? Did you need new heat sinks?

Thanks

10. yes those are Dell cards but the drivers are not fully working as of yet 100%... so this and maybe supply is low right now... but yes those are Dell see here http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1736-amd-7970m-modified-vbios.html#post21542

Dell is probably not going to have them available like that for a little longer... Digital Fubar got granted a pair in a special circumstance. Most likely as soon as AMD releases a generic driver for the mobile 7000 series the Dell cards should be for sale... I spoke with a tech working in the labs with that card so they do have them but I guess aren't quite ready to sell them or issue any more till better driver is released soon.

Thanks for the info. I hope they release some soon. All this talk of the 7970's is making me real anxious. :)
