  1. Hello,

Many thanks for the answers guys.

My friend can reflow whole card, he has a lot of specialistic devices to do this. Do you think that this will fix the card permanently or just temporarily? IMHO tandem of 6990M is more than enough for any video game available so I don't want to upgrade it to 7970M yet if I could fix this card.

    Waiting for your answer.

    Regards

  2. Hello,

I was playing some games and my GPU's were on 50-60% load, it wasn't demanding game. However the game paused and image split to two parts and stuck. I've done a reset and aftert that I've found Windows displaying only solid color image like pink or green and not booting. I've reinstalled the Windows and everything was working fine until I've installed the GPU drivers. After that and entering game the card failed and displayed solid color screen again.

I've removed primary card and replaced it with secondary HD6990M, it's working fine now. However I need to fix the second one. Because of the symptoms I assume that the gpu itself isn't damaged, it could be it's VRAM because it fails only when entering 3D mode. My friend can replace the VRAM but I need to sure. Do You think that diagnosis is correct? I could try also VRAM tester on generic driver, will it work?

    Regards

  3. It's just a thermal grease. Just check thermal grease manual if you think that's someway different than other greases but most of them are applied same way. I was doing 2920XM repaste month ago.Just remember to apply it really thin because when it's too much paste then it will work as isolator.

  4. I was testing it with forced 100% fan using HWInfo. I suppose just sensor isn't as good as GPU sensor but that's only my opinion. I also have Engineering Sample unit so it can have different sensor than Your production unit.

  5. Is that true?

I thought the 880m was more than just an upclocked 780m?

    Yes, same as 680MX = 780M = 880M. You can check on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M - NotebookCheck.net Tech

Just check shader count in 880, 780 and then 680mx. It's still same gpu, just higher clocked. Check the architecture too, it's still Kepler. Only new 880MX/980M will be new architecture.

Nvidia got 780M chip, gave it more memory than 780M and released it as 880M so poeple would buy "new" card with super power 8GB RAM which they will never use. If you mind if VRAM makes difference in games just check online tests of VRAM, 4GB is way more than enough for any video game available in 2014. So in my opinion buying 880M when you have 780M is totally waste of money.

AMD does same rebranding because 7970M = 8970M = R9 M290X. Still same card so if You would have 7970M You would have still newest AMD model available. Probably Radeon R9 M295X will not be rebrand but it's not released yet.

That's how to business works hehe.

If you have any questions then ask. I will be glad to help you :)

  6. As I can assume that CPU temperaturę sensor is not so great as GPU one. It often shows about 30C jump after 3 seconds of cpu stress test. That's just not possible and you should notice temperaturę from it with caution because it's not errorless.

  7. Hmmm display isn't working yes? Blind flash resets values to default? If no try to 'blind' enter the bios and reset the values, maybe BIOS is still working. You should also try to connect HDMI to TV or another display, it sometimes show something even if internal display is not working. If nothing above works i would try to test CPU in another PC and then think what's next.

  8. Hello,

I've bought Alienware M18X with HD6990M Crossfire + i7-2670QM. However, previous owner was an idiot and gave me 240W PSU. If i start the alienware it shows power warning and enters low-power mode. My PSU will be exchanged in 2 weeks so it's a long time to wait. Is there a way to force bios to don't underclock CPU and GPUs with 240W PSU? If it doesn't have enough power how can i turn one GPU off so it won't be powered?

    Regards
