  1. Hi @svl7, I've managed to revert my bios to v2.07 from stock 3.05 on my y510p, but I can't figure out how to run this program to backup (adding the backup to whitelist looks pretty straightforward). When i run the app contained here, I'm prompted to press any key 2x and then it closes. It doesn't look like anything has happened. Can someone offer a bit more instruction? Thanks

I believe there were instructions in the file that specify that you need to execute the .bat file rather than the executable itself.

  2. I'm running the 840 evo 750gb ssd in mine. It runs like a champ. I had initially picked up the 250gb model and realized it did not have nearly enough space for everything I needed.

I also picked up an external usb3 enclosure to use with the internal drive/cloning. (Samsung's migration utility is pretty solid)

Just be careful when picking out your external enclosure if you don't already have one as while they might market as usb3 compatible, it doesn't mean they will be able to achieve usb3 speeds.

  3. Greetings,

I stumbled across TechInferno through some googling regarding some issues I was having with my laptop. After checking the place out, it is quite nice, and I'm hoping to be able to stick around.

I would consider myself a tech enthusiast. My guilty pleasures include having the most up to date android phones as well as other technology items when they can be afforded.

I like to tinker. Changing out parts, flashing custom roms, anything in that realm.

I'm looking forward to being able to learn while I'm here and also contribute where I feel I am able.

  4. I wanted to make a quick post regarding my recent impressions getting set up with a Samsung 840 evo 750gb, specifically the data migration from my initial system drive to the new ssd.

The laptop I was installing the SSD into is only able to accommodate a single internal drive. This provided a convenient excuse to purchase an external enclosure/docking station/usb3 hub.

After a bit of googling, I came to discover Samsung's Data Migration Tool for their SSD drives. With my new SSD docked in the external enclosure, I ran the migration tool, swapped out my internal drive, and booted without an issue. It was extremely simple.

Another item of note is that the usb3 speeds with the external drive dock were fantastic. After some reading, it was apparent that a number of external enclosures market usb3 support, but their internal components restrict making max use of it.

The entire migration process (~140gb) took around 20 minutes.

  5. I have a similar ASUS 27" with 120hz refresh rate, and I absolutely love it. The color reproduction is wonderful.

My only complaint at this point is the resolution. These are expensive, and for where technology is today, I would want to look at something a bit higher than 1920x1080. For gaming it isn't an issue, but for regular desktop productivity, at 27" with that resolution you can see the individual pixels if you are too close.

I would absolutely purchase another ASUS monitor, but it would not come in at less than 2560x1440.

  6. My BIOS is modded, but I upgraded the wireless card in my Lenovo Y510p to an Intel 7260 AC. My range has increased quite a bit along with throughput. I'll likely be picking up an AC router in a couple of months when the next revision of the ASUS AC rolls around.

I picked up my Intel 7260 AC wireless card on Amazon. It was pretty cheap, delivered quickly and packaged well.

The Intel 7260 AC wireless card was pretty easy to install in the Lenovo Y510p. One screw holds in the wireless card, and since the 7260 AC is 2x2 you don't need to do any antenna modifications. I don't know if you need a modded BIOS to allow the particular 7260 AC that I got. I did anyways as it provides some additional benefits.

Thank you for the tip and for pointing me in the right direction. I will probably be ordering the card you linked. Do you have any reservations after having used it for a while?

    Thanks
