  1. Yeah, I've already ordered another laptop. I just don't know how best to sell by existing one. I can get at least £200 for the Nvidia 770m on it's own, so I don't know whether it's better to take it apart an sell the g-card, processor, screen, keyboard, RAM etc individually, or just to sell the laptop as-is with a reserve of £350. Tricky one.

  2. Sorry to hear that. Honestly, selling it might be your best bet at this point. Hardware issues can cause a work of headaches and wrong part purchases.

^^ The thing I'm finding is, my laptop while bought in 20012 is relatively good spec. as I upgraded parts in January - it's got a quad core i7 and a 770m.

Do you reckon it's worth selling as used parts, or as a broken laptop?

  3. UPDATE: Flashed original BIOS and EC firmware, courtesy of MSI (DL links at end of post).

Fan is still broken, as before, pulsing on (100%) and off (0%). I'm now thinking that perhaps it is a hardware issue. It's not the fan itself, as this is new. The connection from the fan to the mainboard is good - I have confirmed this using a multimeter. Given how I accidentally caused 2 of the 3 pins to be touching when I powered the laptop on, I think that there is a reasonable chance that a capacitor somewhere down the line has popped.

I'm seriously tempted to just sell my laptop on ebay and use the money to subsidise the purchase of a new one, at this point.

Advice, as always, very much appreciated.

    MS-1761 WHITEBOOK bios: E1761IG6.30I.RAR

    MS-1761 WHITEBOOK EC firmware: 1761EG61.405.rar

  4. Aw ok, have contacted MSI, they're going to email me the correct BIOS and EC firmware (hopefully). I don't support you know what might be causing my fan issues do you Xonar? :/ If the EC firmware upgrade doesn't work then I'm shit out of ideas.

  5. Have done as above. When trying to flash EC firmware, I get an error saying the board type is not compatible. My EC version (from BIOS) is: 1761EG61 Ver. 4.05 ...which is really weird, as a google search indicates is for Chinese versions of this laptop...

Oh, and after I reverted from Xonar's BIOS to the MSI one, my copy of Windows is no longer genuine. -_____- Just great.

Is there any way to force EC firmware to write? /p or something?

    X

    Paging the god of MSI.

  6. Hi guys,

Having some issues with my fan:

There's on (100%) or off (0%) but nothing in between. Instead of moving up and down through the percentages, it seems that the fan only has 2 states.

    When this issue started:

Yesterday I thought I'd open up the case and clean the dust from the vents.

    Dropped fan. ( >.< )

When reconnecting the fan, I bent one of the prongs so it touched the other, but didn't realise at first.

Powered up laptop, realised fan wasn't running, turned off laptop, discovered bent prongs, bent back into position and reconnected fan.

Verified that connection was good using multimeter.

Turned on, fan ran, but issues started.

    What I've tried:

Reflashed BIOS using Xonar's. Followed post-flash steps (took out battery, removed AC/DC adaptor).

    Problem persists.

Went into Thermal Configuration on BIOS and adjusted fan temps/speeds.

    Problem persists.

    Clean install of G-Card drivers.

    Problem persists.

What I think the problem is:

I think when I dropped the fan I dislodged the controller wire inside the fan itself, on the fan's PCB. Because of this, all directions for the fan to switch on result in 100% on, without allowing any steps in between. I think that buying a new fan will fix the problem...

    What do you guys think?

EDIT1] My problem is exactly that of OP in: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162459.0

EDIT2] Also, I appreciate that you guys like to help out because you're helpful people, but if anyone can provide a solution to this I'll paypal you £10, or donate it to TI. I've used this forum before for and received excellent advice, yet have not been able to offer anything myself!

  7. Same. I put up with the drops as well, although they can get annoying... What temps does it throttle at? Mine always seems to throttle between 58*C and 63*C.

I didn't realise it was a temperature related thing, I'll have to keep an eye on that. Shame ThrottleStop is ineffective. :/

    EDIT Getting throttled at 54*C.

EDIT2 Yeah, definitely seems to be tied to temperature. I've been starting every game with the fan at 100% and it's been fine at 45ish*C, which is easy to maintain in my coooold room.

  8. Hey! Yeah, getting drops on CSGO and Red Orchestra 2. I've always had drops on CSGO because it's poorly optimized, but never really on RO2. This is with ThrottleStop turned on as well. Not really that bothered by them at the moment, just glad to have a functional gamign PC again. I did notice that with VSync enabled I didn't get them on CSGO.

TBH, what I'm finding more annoying is the VBios gui at boot. Just those 3 lines...

  9. You need to rearrange the thermal pads to fit the 770m's slightly different layout, and if they are 0.5mm which is optimal you'll need to put either a 1mm or 2x0.5mm pads on top of each other on the 4 VRAM's here

Do you have a modded .inf?

No I don't, will try installing drivers with existing inf, if that fails will change it. (The link is on the prev. page, right?)

EDIT] Driver install failed, as expected. Looked for INF files specific to my laptop - couldn't find them, so flashed VBIOS to the one used by BigKid so as to avoid the whole INF swapping in the future: it worked! :) Driver update successful and now I have the ability to OC, though since I've only just gotten my lappy working again I'll probably give that a miss for a few weeks at least!

Thanks for all your help guys! :)

  10. Hi again guys. Taking another crack at getting this working:

I've got an MSI 1761 WHITEBOOK with a i72670QM processor. Originally my WHITEBOOK had a 570m, which I have no replaced with a compatible 770m(CLEVO) which works.

The card posts, however after boot, Windows Starts and then I get a bluescreen.

I tried flashing Xonar's 1761 2nd Gen i-Core bios however I was getting BIOS ID errors.

I added /x to the update.bat and the flash was successful, however the bluescreen thing still persists.

Is anyone able to provide me with a BIOS for an MS-1761 WHITEBOOK using a 770m graphics card?

    EDIT] OK! SOLUTION!

Hit del when booting, go to the advanced tab, change SATA to ACHI from RAID. Done.<del>

    :)</del>

  11. I've taken out my micrometer and measured the thickness of that area on both cards and they're exactly the same... Are you sure that's the offending area?

I do not... where do I get that and what do I do with that? xD

EDIT] Ok! So graphics card installed, it posts, I get through the boot screen, the Windows Starting screen appears, then I get a blue-screen which disappears too soon for me to read, then it cycles to boot again, and then asks how I want to start Windows.

I'm assuming that THIS is a bios thing, so I'm going to flash the bios mentioned earlier and see if that works.

EDIT2] Ok, so tried to flash bios but apparently it is not compatible with the existing bios and will not flash. The files used were: http://forum.techinferno.com/msi/1839-msi-g-series-unlocked-bios.html

    (MSI MS-1761 Unlocked.zip)

    I should point out again that I have a whitebook - http://www.msiwhitebook.com/product_spec.asp?model=MS-1761-ID1

EDIT3] Ok, so I tried flashing the bios again with the update.bat however added /x (doesn't check BIOS ID) and it flashed fine, in that it didn't brick my system, however the problem of the Starting Windows > Blue screen error > cycle reboot still persists. Windows suggests Startup Repair, however going through with this doesn't change anything. :/

EDIT4] SOLUTION FOUND - when booting, DEL menu, then Advanced Settings, then changed SATA mode from RAID to AHCI. :) Done!

  12. Yeah, I bought this one New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 MXM 3 0 Type B for Clevo Alienware MSI | eBay

The shipping was crazy fast. I ordered it one day and by the next day it was already in the US. Took about a week from that point, but that's all on USPS.

That's good to hear. I ask because Mokkin seems to be a vendor from HongKong. Perhaps he has distributors in the UK and US.

Before I go ahead and get ANOTHER 770m, can you confirm what your MOBO and processor is?

  13. It does? Mokkin's Hong Kong based, isn't he? Did you wait long for delivery?

Also, what is your processor and mainboard - MS-1761 with a i72670QM, right? (I have one of these: http://www.msiwhitebook.com/product_spec.asp?model=MS-1761-ID1 with the upgraded processor).

EDIT] Also, if post pics of the current 770m I have, will you be able to identify whether it's a compatible one or not? I just don't want to order off of Mokkin only to find that it's actually something to do with my mainboard...

  14. After already buying one non-CLEVO 770m, I'm reluctant to buy another just incase it isn't compatible.

I was looking at this and thinking it looked like the one, however the description says that the picture is just representative.

The only other one is this one, which has bugger-all item description, so who knows.

Perhaps I'm just better off getting a 670M and not risking another incompatible card from a not especially return-friendly marketplace. What do you guys think?
