anyone had problems with optimus tried my workaround? Pulled out the cable (yellow black) connecting akitio thunderbolt board and akito 16x board. (thunderbolt cable plugged in) Started mac with alt and waited in boot options. Started akitio with powered riser. (no akitio adapter) When waiting in boot options I plugged the cable (yellow black cable on the akitio board) and boot in windows.

@Dschijn This is exactly what I did. Maybe the same method works for you aswell. Can you let us know if you try it. I also thought that I burned the board at the begining. Later tested akitio under os x to be sure it is working. I did a lot of heavy gaming with retina display yesterday. No stability issues huge improvement after pe4l v.2.1. I gave the external monitor back but try to take it again and post benchmarks. Of course I need to be careful when plugging in the tiny cable everytime. Is there some sort of switch (which can take place of the short black yellow cable connecting the two akito boards) has anyone any idea?

Thanks guys for all your help by trying optimus for me and for valuable suggestions. I made a clean install of windows and tried akitio further for optimus. the results are good now I have optimus. I needed a different sequence to make it work by comparing it with pe4l v.2.1 So what I did is, Pulled out the cable (yellow black) connecting akitio thunderbolt board and akito 16x board. (thunderbolt cable plugged in) Started mac with alt and waited in boot options. Started akitio with powered riser. (no akitio adapter) When waiting in boot options I plugged the cable (yellow black cable on the akitio board) and boot in windows. And it worked finally. So in my case it worked only with that method. Can it be besause of the graphichs card I am using? It is gigabyte gtx660.

@goalque I tried the instructions exactly but the same result happens. I checked both devices if there is hardware problem. Gpu is working with pe4l and akitio is on system info on mac osx. So I guess both devices are working. Till yesterday akitio was working with external screen. One problem accured after I deleted nvidia drivers with drive sweeper and now egpu with akitio doesnt work also not on external screen. One point is that egpu with pe4l works fine but this time somehow wireless card in device manager doesnt work and no internet. Without thunderbolt, wireless card works again after reboot. I installed windows again in efi but no change. I assume there is some kind of problem occured in mac after I used driwe sweeper. It would be great if anyone has an idea about it. - - - Updated - - - I forgot to mention. I got the 16x pci riser with molex and tried it without an adaptor but no change.

@goalque thank you for detailed instructions I will try them out when I am at home @Dschijn thank you for tying out optimus. It gives hope that it works. I especially need optimus as I dont have external monitor and rather don't want to buy one. I just borrowed a monitor from a friend to test after failed to lunch akitio at the begining.

@Dschijn That would be great! I was about to build your setup with gtx 970 but could't get optimus working. So I am about to send akitio back if I can't get it working. the problem might be because of lack of (something like sw2 switch on pe4l). Pe4l detects the card only with the configuration below. Otherwise it gives the same errors like akitio by restarting mac on and on. I power on pe4l, tb cable plugged in than I start mac with alt pressed to come booth option. Pe4l switches after about 15 seconds with the sw2 switch (the red light goes and it turns green) after that I boot in windows the gpu fans spins very fast and than gets slower (this means the gpu is working) I think we need that kind of configuration with akitio. I tried starting the psu but not akito adapter and I plugged in akitio when waiting in boot options like in pe4l but didn't work. (using akitio with its own adapter) The difference with pe4l is when I start psu gpu fans started spinning normal and after a while when pe4l do the switch it starts spinning faster. In akitio when I start psu without akitio gpu fans don't spin. That is the biggest difference that might prevent optimus. I would appreciate if there are any ideas about that.

Mbpr 13" late 2013 so far no optimus under win8.1 efi with akitio. Whatever I do there is some sort of problem. I also erased nvidia drivers with drive sweeper to install the gpu again. This time the card is not detected at all. I connected the card with pe4l v. 2.1 and it is detected I installed nvidia drivers and optimus works fine. I then connected the card with akito and the card is again not detected. Internal screen is black windows works but no signal to the external screen. Before external screen was working with akitio. any ideas about that? <strike>I think there are problems with akitio especially with optimus. So who consider playing games on internal screen should be careful before buying it.</strike>

I followed your guide and came up with the external monitor working. I have a gtx660 from gigabyte. I was able to have optimus working on my pe4l v.2.1 with setup 1.x. I tried the instructions on the link you sent but didn't work mac continue restarting itself. In my case akitio only works when I shut it down and start mac with alt and come to the boot options then I plug akitio with psu in wait a little till the fans spin fast. Then I boot with windows and it works without optimus and intel gpu is not on device manager only egpu is there. When I try the trick you mentioned by changing the display options and shut down mac. I have to plug out egpu and plug in at the boot options menu. If I dont do that mac restarts over again and again. When I plug out akito I wait till the green adapter light off to be sure power is off. I have the feeling that I do a tiny error somewhere but I dont know where. I assume that my egpu should have optimus as I had it with pe4l v.2.1. @goalque: Can you also tell me which nvida drivers you have on your system? Also does anyone have idea if gtx 970 works with optimus with akitio?

Hi all, Optimus problem. I upgraded my setup from pe4l v2.1 to akito thunder 2 on 13" rmbp late 2013. gtx 660. The card is recognized under win 8.1 efi. I installed nvidia drivers. External monitor works but no optimus. When I do the tricks by changing options to extended displays and making my internal screen as primary monitor. I shut down mac and start with alt key to go to boot option, I choose windows and it shows black screen and mac restarts itself again and again. Then I tried to plug out psu and akitio power and do the same trick. I started mac with alt to come to boot options, then plugged in akitio power and psu this time I get again only external monitor. By the way I power akitio with its original adapter and power gpu with 6 pin connector. Hope someone can help me.

I need help when I want to boot setup 1,30 menu based it finds the egpu and says iport error press any key. I press a key and I don't see the menu instead mostly black screen with f1 and f5 options available. I press f1 and get the codes for 32 bit, 36 bit and so on but when I write the codes nothing happens. Any ideas? Also would gtx 660 good for using the internal screen of late 3013 rBMP 13", does it matter from asus or gigabyte?

Hi Guys, I am trying to this almost for 5 days. I have a late 2013 rMBP 13" I have pe4l and express card to thunderbolt adapter. I have bootcamp windows and also setup 1,x and thermal take hamburg 530w PSU. The problem is I tried 2 graphics card gt 610 and gtx 660 ti device manager sees gt 610, (so it means adapter and pe4l is working) but not gtx 660 ti (plugged both 6 pin connectors fans are spinning on normal speed, green leds are on behind the card, where the pins connected) I also tried every combination of sw1 and sw2 and the jumper. I can't see the card on device manager. I don't know where the problem is, is the card burned? Does anyone has an idea? Also does anyone has .bat file for late 2013 rMBP 13?
