  1. Well, the laptop in my signature is going to be the host. :lemo: I want an extra computer in my room which is connected to:

    Beamer (1 VGA cable)

    Logitech DFGT (steering wheel) (1 connector)

    PS2 ethernet cable to share games from my hdd to my ps2 (1 cable)

    mouse (1 cable)

    keyboard (1 cable)

    Stereo (1 cable)

    Power (1 cable)

    As you can see, i have to connect 7 cables to my laptop to get it working. I'm not that lazy that i don't want to plug in the cables but i also have to bring my laptop and power brick upstairs and make some room on my desk. Which is a bit too much work for 1 hour of gaming. Then i'm 15 minutes busy with connecting so i can game for 1 hour :ambivalence: So i thought, what if use steam streaming and my watercooled Pentium 4 (:Banane24:) to stream the games from my laptop to the pc that is already there and i can watch netflix and youtube stuff on it, maybe some retro games that won't run anymore on my laptop.

    But if i don't have a gpu that can fully decode H264 my cpu will have to do (a part of) it, which will completely collaps because it's an 11 years old singlecore, you get it?

    I've got a question, i'm having the following setup:

    Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz @ 4Ghz (prescott)

    Asus P4C800 Deluxe

    2GB DDR400 dual channel ram (4x512mb)

    40GB WD raptor

    Now this is what valve says as system requirements for the client pc:

    The client has more modest requirements, but should have a GPU that supports hardware accelerated H264 decoding. Any recent laptop or PC should meet the client requirements.

    So:

    SSE2: Check!

    A fast connection between the pc's: Check!

    H264 decoding: ?

    Do you guys think that if i put a 4650 or 4670 in the system that it will work as client pc without fps drops or things like that?

  3. The r9 m290x is a rebranded 8970M. They are exactly the same, my 8970M was magically a r9 m290x after a bios update. The pcb is even the same :) So you can just go for a 8970M, you miss nothing, you just get the same.

    At first: Thanks guys for your replies!

    Now the problem again... The laptop still doesn't work, i tried a fresh windows 7 installation but i get an error code in device manager that the gpu can start up again and is disabled in windows. I also reseated the card, the connector looks on both sides nice and shiney. But it's still broken. I think that i will send it to BTO and look what they say about it. But i don't think that they can get it to work again and that my GPU needs to be replaced. :(

  5. Hello guys,I'm having some problems with my laptop, the specs of it are in my sig. I was gaming (automationgame, in the car designer) with my laptop on a cooling pad and the laptop crashed. -> No problem, just reboot and go further with gaming. Sometimes (like once a week) it crashes and i don't mind that. -> Me rebooting the laptop and seeing that it hangs at the boot logo of Windows 7. Before it hangs the animation laggs like i'm having a Pentium 3. Well, let's restore it to a point where it worked, but after i did that the laptop still had the same problem. BUT! It does start in safe mode, so i deïnstalled the graphics driver of my 8970M (not the intel one) to see if it would fix the problem, and it did. It just started up normally but without the driver for my 8970M. So i was reïnstalling the driver again and the laptop crashed again when it came to the point where it would install the real driver of the 8970M. (and not catalyst or anything like that) After that i again had the same problem as before that it hangs at the boot logo that has freezed. Is my GPU broken? Or could it be something diffrent?(i think that my laptop runs on the intel graphics when the 8970M has got no drivers so it couldn't crash)

  6. Hello. I having the same problem with my 470m that I brought for Sager np8760 (Clevo W870CU). After 15 to 30 seconds the leds for numlock, caps an scroll start flashing and the laptop starts beeping and the laptop will shutdown in while. Sager stay its gpu error. Seller says it needs vbios flash. I have flashed with the bios off this website but still have the same problem. Is vbios provided no good?

    What are your gpu and vrm temperatures when you put the gpu under load before it crashes? You can read them out with gpu-z. Vrm's must stay under 120 degrees celcius and the gpu under 95 degrees celcius.

    Right now i'm testing it with trixx and puting my gpu core up to 970 with 1.050V and running some stress test the temps are nice for both gpus about 83~85

    I dont' know if it's right but when i tried to flash the Thames.rom i got an error version mismatch, but i can change the voltage in trixx, and running the stress test and monitoring with gpuz the voltage changed to 1.050 and when i stop i goes back to .900 did the flash do the job or not?!??!

    Another point wow much more can i go with this OC inside the "safe zone"??

    Hmm, that's pretty weird, if you get an version mismatch it will mean that i have an different vbios. If you send me your vbios i can edit it to the settings you want, or you can do it yourself ofcourse :) You don't have a safe max clock, it's all about heat and voltage. I recommend you to not go over 1.075v for 27/7 and stay under de 85 degrees celcius for your temperature. (BTW, it did not flash it)

  8. That are some wonderful temperatures. I think you should go for it and take the 1.050V bios to have a small voltage bump. I run my P157SM by myself and i'm running 950mhz at the core at the moment. If you want to go any higher (1ghz+) you should go for the 1.075V bios. And if that isn't enough i can make a 1.100V bios for you :43_002: If you want to flash the vbios in the first and second card you just have to read this:

    <b style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250);">First, we want to check if you are flashing the vbios to the right card, so we use the following command:

    atiflash -i <gpu number="">

    So i have only one gpu, so i will use the following command to check if i'm flashing the right gpu:

    0 is the number of the first gpu, but you always got to check it before you are going to flash. And if it's not gpu number 0, you can try gpu number 1 or 2 or even 3 tongue.png

    So after we determined which gpu number is the right number we will use the following command to flash the gpu:

    atiflash -p <gpu number=""><bios file="">

    So i have only one gpu and the bios file is called Thames.rom so i will use the following command:

    atiflash -p 0 Thames.rom

    That's it, you just flashed a new vbios in your 8970M!

    </bios></gpu></gpu></b>But now you you don't have to determine for one gpu which number is which gpu but now you have to do it for 2 numbers. (for 2 gpu's instead of one)

    That's nice to see! Could you change the memory clock with software or would it freeze immediately? I can't use amd overdrive (stupid catalyst) so i don't know how to fix that problem. What i do have is when i change my 3d voltage from 1.025 volt to 1.050 volt, gpu-z stil says that my voltage is 1.025 volt. But when i change the voltage to 1.075 volt, gpu-z says that i'm running on 1.075volt. It's a bit tricky and buggy but wel... I'm now 15 years old and i try to develop some nice tweaks for this hardware but i can't do rocketscience. :P

  10. Well, i don't know that. I think that there is a 50/50 chance of bricking your card with it. The bios blocks higher clockspeeds and if you put in a higher clockspeed in the bios it might just lock up when it goes to it's 3d clocks. But the 8970M has a diffrent boot clock then 3d clock so you can maybe change the 3d clock and not the boot clock so it won't brick. But i don't want to risk my card so it's all up to you :P

  11. After a week of research, problems, crashes and clockspeeds that won't apply, i finally found the way to overclock this baby!

    WARNING:

    NEVER, EVER ,FLASH THE VBIOSES IN THIS GUIDE BEFORE YOU'VE READEN THIS WHOLE GUIDE!

    I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE ON YOUR MACHINE , DYING BIRDS OR ALIEN ATTACKS!

    So, you want to crank up your 8970M? Just follow the following steps in this guide to unlock it's full potential!

    Step 1:

    Uninstall every overclock program for your gpu like msi afterburner or sapphire trixx. If you don't do this you may get some interference and get some strange problems.

    Step 2:

    Because we are going to overclock we are going to need a unlocked power limit control. I made 3 vbioses, which are in the attachements, that have an unlocked power power limit that goes up to +50% and can be controlled with software and 2 of them also have a higher stock voltage programmed. You can choose between:

    - 1.025V +50% power limit (stock voltage, only unlocked power limit)

    - 1.050V +50% power limit (slightly higher voltage, unlocked power limit)

    - 1.075V +50% power limit (higher voltage, unlocked power limit)

    None of these bioses have a dangerous voltage, you can run these voltages 24/7 without problem if your temperatures allow it.

    Now you have to flash one of these vbioses, you can choose which one you want. The voltage can also be changed with software so you don't have to be afraid that you've chosen a vbios with a too low voltage to start with.

    Step 3:

    Now you've chosen a vbios you have to flash it, the program we are going to use is atiflash. (Don't use atiwinflash)

    This program will only run in DOS which is pretty nice because in dos there aren't program's that can ruin your vbios flash by blocking the program or just block it half way the vbios flash. But now we need to get a dos environment to get this program running, well that's pretty easy with the following tool:

    -HP USB Format Tool

    This tool can format your usb and put a dos environment in it which is bootable. For this you need the following files from the attachements:

    -HP USB Format Tool

    -Win 98 Boot files

    When you've downloaded them you have to install the HP USB Format tool and unpack the win98 boot files zip. After you've done that you put in your usb in your laptop and open the HP USB Format Tool. Then you have got to configure the HP USB Format Tool to format your usb the right way so it has the dos environment. These are the settings:

    - Format as FAT32

    - Tick the "Quick Format" box

    - Tick the "Create a DOS startup disk"

    - Browse to the folder where the win98 boot files are in so it can create the dos environment with those files

    - Click on "start"

    Now you've succesfully formatted your usb stick with the bootable dos environment. Now you have got to download atiflash from the attachement and unpack the .zip Rename the .exe to atiflash and copy it to the root of your usb stick with the dos environment. You've also got to copy your selected bios file to the root of your usb. After that you will have the following things on your usb:

    -Bootable DOS environment files

    -Atiflash.exe

    -Thames.rom (the vbios)

    Now you have to restart your laptop and boot from the usb, you will shortly see a win98 boot screen and then you are in a simple dos environment.

    First, we want to check if you are flashing the vbios to the right card, so we use the following command:

    atiflash -i <gpu number="">

    So i have only one gpu, so i will use the following command to check if i'm flashing the right gpu:

    atiflash -i 0

    0 is the number of the first gpu, but you always got to check it before you are going to flash. And if it's not gpu number 0, you can try gpu number 1 or 2 or even 3 :P

    So after we determined which gpu number is the right number we will use the following command to flash the gpu:

    atiflash -p <gpu number=""> <bios file="">

    So i have only one gpu and the bios file is called Thames.rom so i will use the following command:

    That's it, you just flashed a new vbios in your 8970M!

    Step 4:

    Unplug your usb and boot in windows. You need to disable ulps before you can overclock, otherwise the card will just keep his stock clock when you are overclocking which you don't want :P

    To disable ulps you have to open regedit, open the search menu in regedit with ctrl+f and put in the search box: ulps

    Now you've got to set every registery key with ulps in it to 0 Because 0=off and 1=on and we want to turn of ulps.

    Step 5:

    Now we can get to the software part. First you download msi afterburner from the attachement and install it.

    Now you have got to right click on the MSI Afterburner shortcut and go to properties. Now you've got to add the command -xcl to the target like this:

    Default:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe"

    </bios></gpu></gpu>

    With -xcl

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe" -xcl

    After you have done this you can launch msi afterburner, if it launches you can close it again and if it doesn't want to lauch (you click on the shortcut and nothing happens) it's also okay. This command will let MSI Afterburner change some registery keys and things so software voltage control is unlocked. The only thing is that MSI Afterburner doesn't support the vrm's on the 8970M so we will delete it again, we only needed it for the changes to the registery.

    Step 6:

    Now we have unlocked software voltage control and unlocked tdp control. We only need a program that supports the vrm's and can change the core clock, power limit and voltage. And there is such a program, Sapphire Trixx!

    You've got to download it from the attachement and install it. When you open it you will get the following settings in the overclock menu:

    -Core clock control

    -Memory clock control

    -VDDC control (the voltage control)

    -power limit control

    You can change everything except for the memory clock, if you change it for only 1 mhz your card will crash. Every 8970M has that problem and i think that it's a overclock protection or something like that.

    So well, here you've got it. Now you can clock your 8970M to the overclockers hell :Banane21:

    Don't flash these bioses on any other laptop than Clevo laptops

    The max voltage i recommend for 24/7 is 1.075V, you can go higher but i wouldn't recommend it for 24/7

    But you can only run on your overclocked settings with ulps disabled. And if you disable ulps your 8970M won't turn off anymore so your battery life is ruïned. To fix this you have to do:

    Find the core clock/power limit/voltage setting that you prefer and post them in this thread. I can make a bios with those settings in it so you don't have to run any software and you can enable ulps again because the setting are now in the vbios file so the gpu loads them from the vbios, and not from the software.

  12. Well, what if you:

    - Unplug your power plug

    - Remove battery

    - Remove cmos battery

    - You have to do these 3 things all at the same time)

    Push about 10 times the power button, then another time for about 30 seconds, then you just leave your laptop with everything unplugged/removed for about 30 minutes and then you can plug in your power plug and put in your cmos battry and normal battery. If your laptop won't after about 10 times turning on, you have a bricked bios. You can try to recover it and otherwise you have to solder a new bios chip on your motherboard :P

  13. Well i was searching some things for you and i read the following things why this card won't boot in a clevo system:

    - The clevo EC can't read the temperatures from the Dell card

    - The clevo bios won't work in this dell card because the clevo version has 4gb and the dell version has 2gb, so flashing it to a clevo will brick it

    It's some very bad news for you but you can better search for an clevo 680m and sell that card again. Or you could buy an Alienware...

    EDIT: I also read that it is possible but there was no explenation, just one sentence that says that he had a dell 680m in his machine. Well, you can try it but i don't want to give you some false hope :)
