  1. SLI? Because 1.08v will overload my system with turbo boost turned off even when I run 3dmark 11 - 330W is not enough to run high voltage SLI overclocks. You definitely tripped the overload protection in that adapter so either it's faulty or you're over 330W

no its a alienware 17 and i bought a new 330w for it cause it drains 280w+ if i overclock the 4910 + 880m but the 330w shutdown when i benchmark instantly like on the first 2 second when it starts and laptop running on battery

  2. Okay, I'll check it out when I get the chance. I have a 330W and the standard 240W PSU. I also have the 3d screen, so I'll try and investigate regarding the vbios issue. Does that only happen when the display is set to 120Hz or also at 60Hz?

it crashes on 60hz aswell on the new driver lol... and it says nvidia driver has stopped working ... i remember with a old driver i could use 60hz without crashing i just had to switch to 60 before i take out PSU but now it doesnt work lol.. i dont know whats going on all this work well with the stock.

  3. I now have the same setup. If you let me know your settings I can try to reproduce that issue.

This settings working with the 240W ofcourse it draws more than 240w but the psu can handle it and if i plugin my 330W and run benchmark it shutdown and laptop run on battery it might be the 330W PSU not working properly cause i need to take the psu out of power source completely to work again.

    1. 4x 40 multi ( 4GHZ ) and Cache x40 ( temps sometimes really high even with Liquid Ultra i get easy 85+ so i go lower on ( 4x39/38) on multi

    2. voltage on static 1.140 ( i can go on 1.120v but once i run watchdogs for like 10 minutes screen stuck and laptop shutdown ) ( this happens even without GPU overclock only CPU so i believe its the low voltage on the CPU) ( i tried voltage on adaptive but while benchmark its doesnt go lower even with offsets - 50mv its jumping back to 1.2v

    3. On XTU under " Other " disable the Processor integrated VR faults and efficiency mode

    4. Turbo boost and short boost both 100W

    5. 128 sec Turbo boost time window

    6. 880M with svl7 vbios can go as high as +900mhz in memory on nvidia inspector and core i let it default 993mhz cause its getting really hot while gaming ( even with liquid ultra 85C while playing watchdogs 10min)

these settings work well with 240w PSU but i dont know why my 330W shutdown and laptop run on battery... :c bios can see it as 330w

Btw. Ive got the 3d display aswell but it doesnt run with ur vbios on battery alot of people got this problem. Once i take out the psu the display flicker and laptop stuck and shutdown. With stock vbios it works well.

  4. At least some tiny resistors.

No idea how much the board can actually handle though... :)

Define "crash". You got an AW17? The mobo of that machine doesn't seem to have a lot of headroom. Looks as if you hit a wall.

No, I'm afraid I can't really follow. The vbios itself is fine, it has been tested on different system. Ever tried running with stock cpu speeds? I have no idea how the R1 mobo behaves.

so my aw17 with 880m and 4910mq overclocked draws 280+ Watt around it seems to work with the 240w PSU but i bought 330w and once i run a 3dmark11 benchmark with the 330W the PSU shutdown lol and laptop run on battery is that PSU problem or the mainboard limit which shutdown the psu.

  5. svl7 / ethrem look at ur score.. this is exactly what i mean the GPU does fine while the CPU throttle?

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M video card benchmark result - Intel® Core i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz,Notebook P377SM-A

u oc the GPU and now cpu does drop on score... normal physics is 10k+ now u got 8k

is this psu related? or limited power on mainboard?

ive got this on my AW17 with single 880m and 4910qm both OC.

i even bought 330w but doesnt help.

  6. How much you have your CPU overclocked? I popped the circuit protection in my 330W the other day on my NP9377-S pushing the CPU to 3.9GHz with 82A in XTU with both of my GPUs @ 1.05v (don't remember the core, I think it was +105 at that point?), +450MHz mem...

330W should be more than adequate for a single GPU with a 4910MQ... Sounds like you got a bad adapter, I have a 4940MX and can push my adapter pretty hard before it gives out. On top of the MX and dual 880s, I have 2 SSDs, 2 HDs, 32GB of RAM, keyboard lights, and USB components to power.

Gonna flash in a bit, just relaxing right now before I dive in again.

ive got my 4910mq on 4Ghz all cores with 1.130v stable and 880M is overclocked to +100 core / +900 memory. I am able to OC the memory really high while the 880M of my friend is not able. I can even get +1000 on memory but since it doesnt give a big boost i leave it +800/900.

i am 100% sure that power is limited by mainboard. W/e i hope svl7 is gonna fix the vbios for 880m.

  7. actually i thought my PSU 240w is not enought for a single 880M OC and 4910MQ OC ...i bought a 330W and what the hell...once i overclock the 880m to +100mv my 330w PSU shutdown in 3dmark O_O and laptop runs on battery LOL. This wasnt before with the 240w oh man..this whole new AW17 is just bad...im gonna sell it seriously so much money and they limited probably the power on the mainboard.

  8. can someone confirm that this 330W PSU from m18x fits into the new alienware 17 ?

  10. Okay well then I guess I'm fine with it. Sucks that I've got a processor that can't hit the clocks of the last two generations and a video card that puts out more heat stock than the last generation did when overclocked heh.

Although I'm one of the few that has 880Ms that are performing well at all right now so I'm not going to complain. Seems these have a lot of issues... I've seen dead cards, throttled cards, one guy had his go up in smoke... So I'll count my blessings.

I did raise the power target in Precision X to 160% for a test and I went to 25797

my 880m also...able to hit +1000 overclock on memory its pretty crazy and i dont think its normal but the core cant even do +50 xD

  11. I reverted back to the stock VBIOS for now for 3 reasons:

    1. To play it safe, I don't want my GPU to crash and be stuck in NVIDIA's new cripple mode again.

    2. The GPUs just get too hot, up to 85°C each on FireMark 1.1, looks like I need to repaste if I want to enjoy the GPUs always running at 993Mhz (since the laptop is brand new, I'd say DELL's paste is below average).

    3. While this looks neat in benchmarks, the ingame performance gains do not seem to be worth the trouble of experiencing unexpected issues, games just don't perform that much better on the modded VBIOS than they do on the stock one (you'd gain 3-6fps on average I'd say and the SLI setup can just run pretty much anything out of the box anyway).

The modded VBIOS seems a great way to increase the laptop's lifespan however, as in repaste with liquid ultra, flash the modded VBIOS and OC once your setup can't run all games at ultra anymore (if you don't want to invest in a new laptop too soon) so I guess I'll wait for a while before I reflash it (or a newer version) again.

something wrong, i repaste with liquid ultra and i got like -9 but now after days... it isnt that much better....

i mean the first day i had -9 on test but now...did i repaste wrong? i did really thin is it wrong?

  12. Well my iGPU is disabled as well due to the 120hz screen. The dGPU has to be hooked up directly in order for 120hz to function so iGPU is disabled regardless. This is a tech limitation on nVidia's side so you shouldn't have an iGPU either. I was just saying that it didn't happen on my machine so its a factor other than just a simple 120hz issue, that's all. Hope it gets sorted for you.

ya right now i am back on stock because once we lose power in the city my alienware freeze and i lose all my work lol...so i prefer stock right now

  13. I have no problems with 120hz on my Sager NP9377... I don't think there is anything wrong with the vbios unless there is something specific I should be looking for...

    Off battery

    On battery

    wirqlu.png

we got different mobos clevo/alienware... u also got sli and probably u could disable the igpu on bios while the alienware 17 new model has no such bios function and i believe its already disabled i really have no idea now...all i can say is it doesnt happen with the stock vbios...while it happens with the vbios mod. If i turn 60HZ it works lol...i am confused...there is no intel hd drivers and if i try to instal they cant find it so its disabled.

its something within the vbios if this doesnt happen with the stock...

is ur display 3D ? or just 120Hz

  14. Sure, it's in the vbios because we did not test for 3d. We did not have a 3d setup for testing nor an sli setup for testing.

And using your vbios is still going to bring the same exact changes as the modded one will. And 3d will not work again.

Like i mentioned earlier. I think I may know why, but will need to talk it over with him and see what we will do about it.

Well i never said 3D doesnt work...3D works without problems, its just once u take out PSU its freezing but after some testing...

Running Display on 60Hz does not freeze anymore on battery.

Once Turning up the HZ on 100 - 110 - 120 its frozen.

i hope this can help us. this proves its 100% the refresh rate. That might change to the iGPU and its not able to handle 120HZ even though its disabled... so it just freeze...while the stock bios can handle this situation.

That means the vbios mod been made on a system which had iGPU enabled to switch on incase bad bios flash i believe its how u guys testing the vbios.

So the answer should be within the original vbios. If svl7 need it ill post it. Else i am stuck with the stock vbios ;(
