  1. Besides from dell anywhere i can get the ribbon that connects to the hinge cover ( mobo to hinge) it turns it on but no media lights. Reason i ask for somewhere else is it takes 2+ hours for them to get me the right part and this one would be even harder to explain. thanks ~Blitz
  2. well i cant update my 5870's past 11.9 on amd catalyst i get a blue screen everytime this is 11.10 through 11.12, i have to restart in safe mode and remove the cards then install 11.9, so my question is is there a fix for this i have overclocked the gpus to 800 and 1200 on memory but i wouldn't think that would be an issue.. I'm looking to get this solved asap, as my beloved r1/2 (if you remember my other thread) is going to my dad and i got a mad deal on a m18x that i later plan to upgrade to to 6990's, my dad isn't computer smart at all and i'd rather not work on his computer all the time thanks in advance ~Blitz
  3. throttling for sure i had the same issue with bf3 then i repasted with stock clocks on my 5870's now i'm running 900 mhz and 1200 mhz on memory on the gpus and its running nice and cool download this play the game and then check you temps after HWiNFO64 Download hwinfo64 for 64 bit windows or hwinfo32 for 32 bit..
  4. well i took it back apart and removed a bit of paste on the side of the die and its idling at 35C running prime for 45 mins max temps got to 75C and it sat and held for quite awhile i think its cooler because of less paste and my room is 40F so if it was 70F i think it will run around 85-86C on prime which is great got her fixed and working great, i also did a bench 3dmark06 and got 20532 so pretty good about 1000 up from before
  5. that could work i might look into that today good idea wouldn't be hard to do either
  6. now just got to get that cpu run a bit cooler anything over 90C i hate i think i saw 1 core at 94c and it could be the R1 fan i'll have to look into it more
  7. also overclocked to 900 mhz gpu 1200 Mhz mem 1.13V max temps were 85C running bf3 for about 2 hours so i'm quite happy its running amazing
  8. cheap to for what it is, after it was bought for 500 (the R1) i traded the msi i used to reflash this for it so no money lost there technically bought the motherboard, screen, cpu, and gpus to make it an r2 and after selling everything off im into the laptop with hdds and all 300 dollars so i'll take that upgrade for that cheap
  9. I personally think it looks the same as any other r1 or r2 its what is was before to what it is now that makes it sweet
  10. i technically have an r1/2 r1 parts are the card reader, wifi card, bluetooth card, keyboard, speakers, and bottom chassis, so the service tag is an r1 service tag everything else is r2
  11. the method you were using for your 6970s with rbe works really well with the 5870s i have to use the overclock tunner though if i don't i have to reflash them right now i'm currently sitting at 800 mhz and 1100 mhz on memory i'm sure i could push it further as i think max they were hitting 83C i did a repaste on everything and its running like a champ now, i know my cpu is at 3.2 5% overclock but it seems to run a bit hot did they release new fans with the R2?, reason i ask is because this is actually an r1 system, i've changed the motherboard out the gpus, cpu, and to a blu ray player everything else is from the r1 and all works perfectly. O and the screen from the 1440x900 to the 1980x1200 i would have bought 2 of them had my cards not reflashed correctly but i ended up spending that elsewhere
  12. well that fixed it i'm actually kind of bumbed but i think id rather wait and buy another killer machine on a later date this one should serve me for the next 6 months or so unless ofcourse i view the bench thread
  13. I'm not seeing it for 436 if I could get it for that price id Jump on it granted if I can't get my 5870s to post O yes thanks for the help thus far I'm a wizz on desktops but laptops and gpu compatibily get me stumped
  14. They do have them with no posts so its compatible with the r2 and I'm not home yet I will be late tonight to try the msi but is the 6990 alot better then the 6970 I mean with another 200?
  15. The cards itself looks fine as far layout but compatibility is the question I saw in feed back one guy had it in an r2 but not crossfire..
  16. Your method did work I got to 800 gpu MHz and 1200 mem mhz But it was clock a little to high so I reflashed to down clock and that's when no post I have a Msi with the same slot if I can get it to run on that ill flash them back to stock if not if you could verify the link in my first post then ill get the 6970s and right now I'm doing this by phone
  17. In plugged the cmos no avail its flashing caps and scroll lock no post.. not sure how a USB would help.
  18. Well I flashed back to stock clocks and now no post cant flash to fix or can i?
  19. got it to work i was on the right track just didn't have winflash and it wasn't recognizing cards now i set voltage to 1.1 and gpu mhz to 800 and Mem mhz to 1200 what area of clocks has others successfully used or should i trial and error with furmark for the next while which i will probably do just like to get a base clock area
  20. i have ati rbe but when i flash to change clocks it doesn't seem to work or is there another way or program to do this?
  21. Well i was searching on ebay and found this ATI Mobility Radeon now my question is will this work in my m17xr2? i want to run dual cards, or is the performance gain from 2 5870's to small to get out of the 6970s? Im asking if its cost effective to upgrade to the 6970's, it seems in bf3 my fps is all over the place and it could be internet but it ranges anywhere from 160 to 25 fps, i've updated drivers and such but still a large range. Settings on medium btw. So if anyone would like to post there findings with bf3 and m17xr2 that would be great, resolution is 1450x1050 Specs 920xm 8 Gb 1333 g.skill Dual ati 5870's To sum up if theres confusion is it worth getting dual 6970's will i see a big performance gain (40-50 fps) on some games? Or should i just stick with the 5870's and wait and buy a new laptop in a year or so?
  22. even if the bios are different? and i did flash and it seems to have cleared it up also thanks for you help StamatisX you've been great i finally got the working m17xr2 i've been trying to achieve for less then 1k thanks again if i have any other problems i'll be lurking around
  23. well i finally got a master and a slave card for my crossfire to work on my 5870's my question is will flashing the vbios help with any performance, i've noticed a few studderds and screen doing weird things almost like tearing but not quite i'm curious if doing the flash will help them run a bit smoother or maybe better here are my specs 920xm 0ced to 3.6 Dual 5870's 500 momentus xt and 750 gb 7200 8 Gb 1333 mhz G.Skill ram M17xr1, chassis, Lcd, Keyboard etc.. _________________________________________ EDIT by svl7 Solution: Slight stutters and similar are a known issue with dual card systems (SLI / CrossFireX). Updating the GPU drivers and CAP can bring improvement, as well as patches for the application. In case the manufacturer of the system has a VBIOS update available, it's definitely worth flashing it, but this generally solves different issues than micro-stuttering.
  24. it runs right now so it could be worse, hopefully it'll get straightened out
  25. well didn't fix it after reinstall and all so i'm going to call dell as soon as i get a chance
