I'm using win10 since the launch and didn't have single issue...
just use the latest drivers from intel and not from lenovo https://communities.intel.com/thread/81511
-
no, it will not boot with 1.5V memory
-
NEVER change the voltage in bios, you will brick your laptop. You can use intel extreme tuning utility to set the voltage and multipliers for cpu, it will set it automatically after each windows boot and nvidia inspector with windows task scheduler to set gpu clock and voltage automatically after logon.

no, it doesn't work when you brick it by undervolting. Nothing works.

42mm M.2 SSD's are up to 256GB. And what cover? It is held there by single screw on top
-
Now I bought Transcend MTS400 M.2 256GB and it is working without problems.
-
I think it's called "graphics device" and to disable nvidia set it to "UMA only"
I don't know about sli, since I don't have sli model. Maybe you will need to remove ultrabay gpu first.

Ok, thanks for your answer! Is it possible to select from normal BIOS to use the integrated video card? And will that be locked too?
if you have at least bios 3.05 (doesn't have to be unlocked), you can disable nvidia GPU in bios and use only integrated. Integrated gpu is not limited on battery and it's power is somewhere between one third-one half of the power of single gt755

I bought this laptop mainly to use without AC power. I read a lot of opinions that this laptop can work 3-4 hours with battery power. I thought "Its really good time for laptop with two GPUs". But its limited :/
On battery power GPY stays 135mhz on core and 400mhz on memory. Its about 20% of max performance.
But nobody unlocked and tested it. I opened furmark and prime95 on battery power and battery care showed that laptop uses 30 watts. My old samsung laptop uses 60watts on battery without problems. Do you know how to disable in modded/unlocked bios nvidia gpu?
On AC, peak power consumption of my laptop under heavy load was more than 140W, and that was just with single gpu (measured with socket watt-meter). This would kill the battery (and maybe also you, if the battery exploded). So no, you can't unlock gpu on battery, it's hardware protection, deal with it.

No, the battery just cannot supply enough power to GPU at full speed. It's hardware limitation and it cannot be disabled in any way. This limitation was present in every single laptop with powerful nvidia card that I've had. Only thing you can do on battery power is to disable discrete graphics altogether and use only integrated GPU, which is faster than slowed down nvidia GPU.

undervolt cpu with intel extreme tuning utility and gpu with nvidia inspector

I have non SLI version, so I don't know anything about ultrabay GPU, but repasting cpu and internal gpu was pretty easy, compared to my older asus g73sw. I used noctua NT-H1 and the cpu is now around 10-15 °C cooler under heavy load, it was reaching 100°C before and thermal throttling. GPU is also few degrees cooler, but it wasn't overheating before.
You can download y510p hardware maintenance manual from here http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410p_y510p_hmm.pdf where you have step-by-step disassembly guide
Also you will void your warranty, because there is a sticker on one screw under the keyboard

no, haswell cpus are for different socket
-
no, I returned it to the store for full refund, looks like y510p is not compatible with a-data m.2 ssd. Unfortunately, that is the only available model with 42mm length in my country
-
no, firstly, the battery is soldered and someone already tried to desolder it without success

I bought a-data premier pro sp900 256GB m.2 ssd and I have problems installing win8 to it, even detecting it in existing win8 installation on hdd. SSD is detected in bios, but when I boot windows8, it disappears from device manager after cca 30 seconds and then it is missing in the bios after restart. It is only detected again after full shutdown and turn on using power button. When I tried to install windows 7 on it, I've had no problems, win7 runs fine from this m.2 ssd, so the ssd is not faulty, but I want to use windows 8. The only way that this ssd is working in win8 is when I set sata controller in bios to compatibility mode, but I don't want to run ssd in IDE emulation without ahci or trim support. What is interesting, that ssd also disappears in linux (archlinux with latest 3.16 kernel), so it must be caused by some feature that is supported on win8 and newer linux kernel, but not on windows7. I installed unlocked bios and tried to change some sata controller settings, but nothing helped.
Did someone managed to install windows 8 on this laptop on m.2 ssd?
I have 7 days to return this ssd with full refund, so it would be great if some solution could be found in this timeframe
I found these two events in event log right before disappearance of the ssd
Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.
Disk 0 has been surprise removed. -
I've had no problems creating bootable usb with archlinux using linux live usb creator and then booting and installing in uefi mode
YUMI doesn't support uefi, so you must enable legacy support boot mode in bios

I just got mine back from warranty repair (after bricking it by changing voltage in unlocked bios), according to our IT department, they replaced the mobo. But they certainly DIDN'T repaste it, both cpu and gpu were instantly reaching over 90°C and throttling in load. After repasting the temperatures dropped to around 60-70°C under heavy load. (I didn't have any overheating problems before repair)
This is how it looked when I dismantled it... Also the original paste was pretty solid
-
well, with my y510p with 3.05 bios I can freely change cpu/cache/gpu voltage and turbo multipliers (+2 bins) and I didn't do anything to unlock bios..
-
for CPU undervolting you can use intel extreme tuning utility, without any bios modification. Settings will be saved even between restarts
-
since the video output is always routed through IGP, I don't think there is a way to fully disable it.
-
I turned on my laptop now, after 4 days (it was fully charged before, disconnected from AC) and battery is at 99%. I even have the always on usb enabled in bios.
-
yes it works, I tried downgrading my y510p from 3.05 to 2.07 using your file, it worked without any problems

first, you need to set OS optimized defaults on the EXIT tab in bios to "other OS", save bios settings and restart. Then you will have on the SECURITY tab option to set secure boot to disabled. You might need to reset setup mode and restore factory keys to disable it.
Y510p and Intel driver with windows 10

@jam97 I don't know, I have it on AC most of the time and I'm using batterybar, which has much better battery time projections than windows.
