I've dusted the fans and am now using throttlestop and hwinfo because the fan speeds we're waaaay to low, I can now reach idle cpu temperatures of +- 35 degrees celcius, i'm going to repaste as well. Throttlestop seems to be the only way to get higher gpu loads..

Terrible 7970M full screen performance on Windows 8.1
MrCat replied to Thorarin's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
I upgraded to 8.1 had to format and reinstall 8, pretty much all my beloved games became unplayble due to windows 8.1 'mouse issues', clicking the left mouse button while holding a key (moving forward, ..) was impossible on 8.1!! -
Hi, I've noticed my 3630qm cpu being around 60-70 degrees celcius idle (performance mode), 55 degrees celcius at energy saving mode, and it will go straight up to 100 degrees celcius during an intentisive task. Haven't even seen it going into turbo mode (it's enabled in the bios), just sits there at a max of 2400mhz, I can use throttlestop to get it to 3.4ghz, goes straight up to 100c. Maybe a problem with the fans not doing their job right? Max tdp is 45watt but It's not even going over 29 watt using throttlestop to get it at 3.4Ghz Because of the cpu being so darn hot it cap's my 7970m gpu.. When using throttlestop to get my cpu at 3.4Ghz I get a much higher GPU load, fps can actually DOUBLE then, giving me the performance the 7970m should give me, but the cpu temperatures hit 100 after a minute of gaming, so i shut throttlestop off right away. => gpu load goes from 80ish to 40ish again => fps is a joke. I'm on the unlocked a11 bios, checked all my drivers. I've been having windows warnings about compal embedded system control driver missing but uninstalling and installing an older version of st microelectronics 3 axis digital.. removed that warning. I've kinda ran out of ideas here.. Any advice? Meow

Just want to say it all worked out!! Thank you so much vsl7! Getting my bios flashed to the unlocked A11 gave me the options to turn off xHCI and made my new audio-interface work, it totally kicks ass!

Sounds promising, otherwise i'd have to return this audio-interface. I've managed to downgrade from A12 to stock A5, and flashed to A11, when I get more forum privileges I'll try to flash the unlocked A11, thats the way to go, right? Meow

I've tried em all and preferred android above any iOS, but above that I've gotten really into the look and how easy windows phone 8 is!

Hi, I'm on a m17x r4 and I'm having problems with a new presonus audiobox vsl1818 audio-interface: crackling, distorted sound. Having browsed through many forums it would appear the problem is ivy bridge and the xhci usb 3.0, on usb 2.0 the audio interface works fine but I've only got usb 3.0 ports. On many machines the distorted sound problem could be solved by uninstalling the xhci usb 3.0 driver in programs and features, or in the bios, so that the usb 3.0 ports act as usb 2.0 ports. Now, on dell machines this option can not be found in the bios, and the driver can't be found in programs and features. Would flashing to an unlocked A11 give me the option to disable xHCI and make my usb 3.0 ports act as usb 2.0? I'm new at this forum and therefor I can not the pictures nor download the files from vsl7's thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x-aw-17/1964-%5Bm17x-r4%5D-unlocked-bios-versions.html so I don't know if flashing to unlocked a11 will save the day..? Meow, Cat

I've made it back to the stock A5, now i want to get the unlocked A11 on it but I don't have sufficient rights on the forum to download the files, what do I do? UPDATE: It totally worked and saved the day with my new audio-interface that was 'impossible' to work with Dell computers with ivy bridge and usb 3.0 Thank you!!
