  1. Yes it is completely blocked. I have the y510p and it won't allow for installing new wireless cards.

Old thread... but if you get the unlocked Y510p bios your wireless card will work just fine. I'm using it now in fact. You can find the unlocked bios thread under the Lenovo / IBM Laptop Forum as a sticky.

  2. I read in another forum that it is possible to change the HW ID of a WiFi card to match that of an approved card. I'm still looking for more details on this.

I believe there is a seperate Bluetooth Driver somewhere on the Intel Support site for the 7260. I was wondering the same thing when I got mine, but since I don't use Bluetooth it wasn't deal breaker. A few months later when upgrading some USB drivers from Intel I happened upon a Bluetooth driver update for the card somewhere. I don't know where it was... you'll have to do some digging.

The way it seems to work (but I could be mistaken) is that there is a wifi driver and a separate Bluetooth driver for the AC7260 card.

    Hope this helps!

  3. This is something that was proposed in some other threads. I've thought about doing it, having someone else do it or buying the motherboard with it. I'll probably end up replacing this thing before I get around to it though haha! I'm not that attached to it :D

  4. Hi Kwaz, This is exactly what I'm hoping to do. Rolling back to v2.07 bios from v3.05, then modding to whitelist my y510p for the 7260 AC. Did you run into any problems whitelisting? Any advice would be helpful. Thx

Nope! No issues. It's pretty straightforward. Just follow the instructions carefully

    Best of luck Trunk!

  5. I remember reading some feature about Haswell processors and intel wifi where it scans while powered down in certain states sleep to maintain wifi connection and download things. I forget what exactly but I do distinctly recall reading about this. I'm sure there is a way to disable it.

  6. Hey XUNB1,

I run 7 Pro 64 Bit and have no issues. I'm running a Y510p SLI though. I downgraded for the same reasons. Forget that Windows 8 mess :D

Back to your issue - I'm not 100% sure what may be causing this but there are some things I'd try. The first thing I'd do is make sure that you aren't running out of ram. It's possible that you might be running out of ram and writing to page file. That sounds unlikely though given the crashes that you're having. Still check it out though.

You might also have a bad hard drive. Maybe. Once upon a time I had a computer that did shit like this. It's in a landfill now :cold2:

I play L4D2 and don't have the issues that you're having. The next thing I'd try is uninstalling the display driver, restarting, cleaning your registry with something like CCleaner, restarting again and then installing the freshest driver. If that doesn't work, do the same thing over again but install the previous driver.

Speaking of, has this always happened? Is it new? And btw are you running 32 or 64 bit?

Have you tried closing all background programs?

Have you sacrificed any animals and smeared their blood across the bezel?

    Do pray tell.

  7. Hi all, new here.

I've been directed here by most lenovo sites, and have found most of the information I needed.

    A few quick q's :

How instrusive in regards to warranty is BIOS modding? I've kept a copy of the original download, and want to make sure if I assplode the y510p any time soon I can send it back and revert it to factory form.

    Thanks!

    That I do not know...

It probably does. But the deal with that most of the time as with anything is that they'd have to prove what you did borked the laptop. There was a lawsuit about car warranties a while back along similar lines where someone would change their own spark plugs and they'd deny warranty coverage when the wheel fell off (for example). For instance, modding the bios wouldn't cause one of your keys to pop off or the hinges to break. I mean unless you overclocked it and in doing so the extra heat fatigued the metal which induced the failure but I mean.... really

  8. I haven't used those software tools in quite some time. What I started doing is using something called a "toaster" which is a drive cloning device. You put both the drive you want to copy and the new drive in the device and it makes a clone. The new drive needs to have enough space in it to hold the old drive. For me this has worked perfectly several times. Toasters are pretty cheap. This is the drive toaster that I have. It isn't the best toaster that I've used, but the reviews of this particular one on Newegg aren't deserving.

I don't like using the cloning software because I've had the same issues that you're having. It can also be a bit complicated and I've just never liked the way that it's done. As I remember you also need to use software and reboot to a dos program to finish the job. I like the toaster because you just pop in both drives (like toast :D) and push the start button. Seems faster too! (especially if you're using USB 2 /gag)

I can't offer much help with the software. You might have better luck on a non laptop specific forum like Anandtech if you still want to go the software route. There are a lot of existing threads somewhere out there on issues like this.

    Best of luck Sully!

  9. If your graphics cards are also overclocked, then it is quite possible.

And a new power adapter isn't expensive, you just have to make sure that it has the correct values and the correct connection.

    So good luck :)

    That they are :rapture:

  10. I also have this problem but with the Y410P and the 1.10 BIOS with Windows 7. When using wifi tether and my phone I get BSOD about every 5 minutes. Also, HWMonitor will give me BSOD every so many minutes. It's dumb.

Strange! Thinking back I remember that I too was getting a BSOD when trying to tether on with the OEM stock wifi card (Intel N 2230). Never was able to resolve it.

I have a 7260 with modded bios now and haven't tried to tether but am now having other issues.

See this thread for more info http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/4759-lenovo-y510p-wireless-card.html

  11. Yes there are issues with it it seems. Intel hasn't been very responsive to the problems. There's even been some chatter about them silencing folks, deleting their accounts and posts, etc on their official forums that have been asking about the problems. These aren't people that are bashing them, swearing etc, apparently - just asking what the deal is and when a fix is around the corner. I'm not sure what's going on but it's very fishy.

I've been having issues with my 7260. Like others I need to reboot the wireless card a couple of times a day. I do this by turning the wireless of the laptop on and off with the function button or by disabling it in the Windows' wireless control panel.

The card's fast but the disconnect issues are a drag. Basically what happens is that the card disconnects you from the 5ghz AP and then cannot see any 5ghz channels until the card is reset. I have a dual band router so it drops to the 2.4ghz AP. The weird thing is that when this happens the connection speed of the 2.4ghz connection drops significantly.

With as many people that are having issues I'm quite surprised that Intel hasn't fixed the problem. They're a pretty big company and it'd seem like they could acquire the talent to fix this. Resetting the wireless card isn't a huge deal but it's a pain and I didn't pay for this device with the knowledge of this issue. Unfortunately I'm also passed my return date. It's not an expensive piece of equipment, but come on!

I'm not sure what I'll do at this point. Unfortunately I bought a wireless AC router to go with it so if I swap my old wireless card in I now have ~no use for the router as nobody else makes a wireless AC laptop card. Perhaps Qualcomm / Killer / Atheros will come out with something. Who knows.

Another odd thing btw is that the card didn't have any issues when I first got it. Then it did after ~a month. What's more odd is that the problem is resolved with a reset. So it's not an overheating issue and not something physically wrong with the card as far as I can deduce. For reference, I've rolled back drivers, re-installed drivers and everything of the sort. I'm also using Windows 7 64 bit on my Y510p.

  12. So for those of us that are unlucky and got a model without the connector, is there anything we can do about it? Seeing that link above with a relatively cheap M.2 SSD is really appealing, and I can't take advantage of it because my model is missing the connector :(

You may perhapsibly be able to buy a replacement motherboard with the M.2 connector from Lenovo.

I sure wish that I had one.

  13. That's actually what I attempted to do while I was on the phone with them, and I got the part number that I needed, but no matter which department I called, no one would actually send out or sell the DVD drive. Not sure why or why not either. Just that it wasn't "in the system" so they can't sell or send them, only replace defective ones.

Do you have the part number?

  14. Just ask someone to swap their DVD with your card. Sure you will get lots of offers. :)

Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk 2

Hahaha! That's a great point for him!

For me... I likes me SLI! You'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands and put a DVD drive in them.

  15. I spent a few hours with Lenovo support getting bumped back and worth to different departments, and it turns out that if you got the SLI model there isn't a way to purchase the DVD drive as a stand alone purchase. This is a little annoying as they advertise on the website that there are many accessories to purchase for the ultrabay, but there actually don't appear to be any.

If anyone does find any way to purchase ultrabay accessories please let me know!

I would imagine you could just get the part number and have them send you the part? It sounds like you called... but I don't see what the big deal is on their end. They use the ultrabay dvd drives to assemble them so why can't they sell them on the side?

Conversely, I believe that you can get a standard dvd drive and put it in. I think?
