The GTX970M works also in old MS-16F2 Motherboards with a Bios from the Year 2012 and older...
-
That's not quite right. It only requires a modified driver if the card does not come from MSI. Once the card comes from MSI, it works plug and play. I use myself in my GT70 0ND (with MS-16F31 motherboard: D) a MSI GTX770M 3GB with a OC vBIOS and do not need the modified driver. I use the Bios version 51x and T18 EC firmware (for a GT70 MS-1762 motherboard you have to use the T24 EC Firmware)

See my attachment. This is the original vBIOS from a MSI GTX460M from the MS-16F1 Barebone of my Wife

Don´t try to flash the EC Firmware from another generation ! The GT70 2OD is a Haswell Unit with HM87 Chipset (MS-1763 Barebone), the GT70 0NE is a Ivy Bridge Unit with HM77 Chipset (MS-1762 Barebone)

repasting is your way

GTX570M and GTX670M are the same Cards, only the name and the clockspeed has been changed by Nvidia. The GTX670M get +23Mhz more.
When you will change the motherboard to a MS-1762, than you need another S-Bar (Hot Key Board with the Powerbutton) and the MS-1762C HDD1 adapter next the GPU. Than you must look, than you become a Motherboardrevision with eSATA, because some Revisions have a this point a Displayport. You can also use a MS-16F3 motherboard, but than you must look, that you get a Revision incl. Backlight Keyboard connector and the Connector for the both USB on the right side, because the MS-1761 use a MS-1761A HDD Board incl USB connector, i think this connector will not work with recent motherboards.
but i think, that is not problem of the motherboard. this is a problem by the old fermi GPU. You can use problemfree another GPU like the GTX770M from the Kepler Generation, but than you need another heatsink GPU and Heatsink cost around $300.

I need also throttlestop in some games. I have an i7-2670QM, 8GB DDR3-1600 and a GTX770M with OC vBIOS. Without OC vBIOS i don´t need Throttlestop. I think that the System need to many power, because i have a MS-16F2 Motherboard (in a GT70 Chassie ) without Optimus and MSI NOS (Battery use under load). Next week i get a MS-16F3 motherboard, than i can use MSI NOS.
Is your battery installed ? Because that is urgently needed in the GT70 / GT60.

When I installed a GTX780M in a GT60 0NC few months ago, the Turbo button did not work. this is normal.
As for the performance, you've already tested with ThrottleStop and disabled "BD PROCHOT" option ?

@jegarfor Try this: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/scm_w8_13.014.06109.zip this is from the GT70 2OD. And this is for your GT70 0NC: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/SCM_w8_10_013_03016.zip. Normaly must the SCM for the GT70 2OD also work with the 0NC.
you are the first one, that have problems with the 51x Bios. Unfortunately I do not know why your GTX780M is now so slow. Which vBIOS do you have now on your Card ?
@omega939 Please do not spam the thread with something to this because it has no place here now. Thank you
-
The Turbo is not working with the old GT70, only with the new Version GT70 2O* and 2P* works the Turbo.
Which Version do you have from SCM ?
-
So far, the 51x Bios including T18 (GT60) has or T24 (GT70) EC made no firmware problems. Please check the bios settings. Windows 8.1 you should also reinstall, but in UEFI mode. With the original MSI VBIOS there are no problems with UEFI. The OC VBIOS can in some motherboard revisions freezes @ post screen when UEFI is enabled.

These things indicate an MSI card.
- The vBIOS Version was 80.04.97.00.04
- the Card was green
- under the DIE was die MSI identifier MS-1W0C1 (for GTX780M) (not all MSI Cards has an identifier, so like my GTX770M... this Card came from a GT70 2OC)
- no SLI Connector on the Card
- no X-Bracket behind the Card
This is a original MSI GTX780M:
-
Have you got an original MSI card? For only works perfectly with the MSI GT70. All other cards require a customized VBIOS and modified drivers.
-
the T24 EC Firmware is for Backlight Keyboard Devices. The files come directly from the MSI Server. The bios including EC were released for 100% compatibility of GTX7 ** M cards. I myself have already operated a GTX780M (original MSI) in a GT60 0NC with 51x bios.
-
You can use Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with the 51x Bios. You must only change "UEFI to Legacy" for Windows 7 and "Legacy to UEFI" for Windows 8.1.
-
Can you enter the Bios yet ?
with the old Bios will the GTX780M with OC vBIOS not boot in UEFI Mode, you must change it to Legacy Mode. When you don´t can enter the Bios make a Hardreset by removing the bios battery. If that does not work, you develop the graphic card and boot up with the HD4000. Then you missed your motherboard first the following bios, then the GTX780M should run smoothly in old GT70 0NC.

@omega939 i´ve not say, that the GTX9**M will work, but i think it... But as long as the part number of the GT60/GT70 2QD Heatsink is not known, and that they also can not buy, no GTX9 ** M will work in any older GT60/GT70.
@mkg use the 51x Bios and T24 EC Firmware from my attachment (both include). Than will the GTX770M works perfectly.

this is not a MSI GTX770M...
so it must look like with a GTX770M from MSI:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11E0&SUBSYS_10E81462&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11E0&SUBSYS_10E81462
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11E0&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11E0&CC_0300
Just try to flash the MSI vBIOS: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/141748/MSI.GTX770M.3072.130324.rom
With good luck, the card works with the old MS-16F2, but normally function only pure MSI cards.
-
maybe yes, maybe not... no one know this answere... i think it will be work.
-
You can change your Motherboard, when you find one from the GE70 2PE. Than you have a Maxwell GTX860M... Since the GE70 2PE the CPU is onboard, you don´t need a new CPU. However, it is not easy to find such a motherboard, even in the Far East they are not so easily sold (as opposed to GT series motherboards).
-
Yes, MSI use an other Heatsink for the GTX9**M Series, because the MXM Board has another Layout.
GTX9**M Heatsink:
GTX8**M / GTX7**M Heatsink:
Here you see the difference between the two cards (GTX870M vs GTX970M). Anything above the RAM chips, located at other positions.
MSI sells in Canada as just the GT60 2QD and the GT70 2QD with a GTX970M 3GB. When and where you can obtain the heatsink, I do not know.
-
@omega939 I is not even known about. But that probably has ehr no place in this thread, do not you think?
@qlqltls Enclosed is a picture of my sensor bar (GT70) operated with a cable from a MS-16F2 (GT683) together with MS-16F2 motherboard. Enclosed is a picture of my sensor bar (GT70) operated with a cable from a MS-16F2 (GT683) together with MS-16F2 motherboard. If you as a little zoom, then you see where you possibly have to put on your MS-1761 sensor strip the cable.

90°C is normal for the highest stage of expansion from the old Fermi Chip. My old GTX570M has also around 85°C reached.
