Also, What temps are you getting when overclocked + overvolted ? my clocks on both GPU are now are 1050/2500 + 175Mv)

Temps are:

CPU : 90C

GPU0 : 85C

GPU1: 61C

kinda worried about the 90C and 85C on the other GPU

Now I know why it gets hot. I disabled SLI ( stupid of me ).

TEMPS now.

CPU : 86C

GPU0 : 77C

GPU1: 61C

CLOCKS: 1100/2500 1.1V

Okay, I did not find the "windows fast boot" , but I did find the "Lenovo fast boot" in the settings. I tried both enabled and disabled and the enabled fast boot worked with bluetooth ( LOL now it works on enabled fast boot ). When I try to disable it the bluetooth wont start, but when I enabled it, it worked @_@ weird. Anyway thats fixed now.

I have a new problem, Now I cant seem to manually turn off the bluetooth. It wont when I go to the configure wireless device . It says " Cannot disable " . Its not that big of a problem, but my WiFi loses a bit signal and its jumpy when bluetooth is turned on.

WiFi card = Intel 6230 + bt 3.0

Disable Windows 8 fast boot or hybrid boot. Whatever you call it. Then bluetooth works fine.

Unfortunately, the Bluetooth issue seems to affect every single owner of this laptop, and nobody has found a solution for it yet. It's sad, but it's impossible to use Bluetooth with this machine in its current state.

Hello guys,

I'm having problem with its blutooth ( intel 6230) . After installation, the bluetooth works, but after restarting won't work. I have to reinstall again so that it will be enabled. I use it for my motionjoy software for ps3 controller pairing @_@. Never had problems with my other laptops because it has a dedicated bluetooth button. In my y500 I cant turn it on because no hot key for bluetooth.

Could be right, I tried enabling the integrated video and it would not boot...lol oh well.

Yeah, Optimus would really help this laptop. But still got an awesome specs for the price. IMO price performance ratio is outstanding on this laptop.

I Opted for the 750 SLI. I'd enjoy seeing any of the data you located, showing the temp differences. My initial guess was that the 750's would run hotter because they are "amped up" 650's technically speaking.

I'm just getting started with this laptop. Lenovo made an outstanding product with the Y500. Many new technologies to explore. So much so, I expect seeing several sub-forums, and imagine doing a few myself. Eg. UEFI boot- new features allow for a partition style selection instead of just a hard drive style selection. I've got OpenSuse registered (UEFI) in the BIOS, and can easily choose between Windows, and Linux.

I look forward to providing some further details, and a couple cool tricks.

though kinda different because of the haswell CPU, but I think the 3630qm and 4700mq is almost the same when compared ( correct me if I'm wrong )

Also, I'm having problem using the bluetooth because everytime I restart the computer it wont work anymore ( i have to reinstall the driver and it would work, but after restart i cannot use it ) @_@ HELP

I have tried 2 coolers for it. 1 with 2 big fans and 1 with 1 big fan.

room temp around 18-20C

Anybody has other cooling methods or mods for this great laptop?

Does anyone know if there is a program when you press caps lock it will indicate in the screen( Just like on my MSI gt780 "S-bar" application )? or manual bluetooth on or off (becaus intel 6230 cant handle bluetooth + wifi on , I mean it can but the signal of wifi stutters)

I also had your problem, awaiting my first post. I also had the atheros card, wow that thing is messed up. So i ordered the 6235 for 20 euro (budget??), now my signal is much improved. Also speeds are very high, much higher then the atheros. Its very much worth the upgrade!

Here in my country the cards are expensive due to the tax + shipping :/

We would like to change the keyboard to bakclit. Found one in eBay but I don't know how to disassemble it or if it would be compatible with the laptop that comes with a standard non-backlit keyboard.

Iv'e successfully Modded my BIOS. Can I ask what is the maximum voltage clocks on both the GPU and what are the things that I can use in the in the modded BIOS?

also my CPU is hitting 95~98C on (GPU clocks 955/2400 both at 69~72C) cpu throttles down to 2.4Ghz and maintain 72~75C

-stock thermal paste with single fan laptop cooler.

I'm trying to enter the bios setting by pressing the "Novo" key when the y500 is turned off and I can't. I'm doing something wrong or I missed something?

Restart laptop, And press F2 when it is about to start And what is the "novo" key?

Update my lenovo y500 bios to 2.04. insert intel 6250, veiw all wifi network but can't connect to any one. Latest drivers installed. Where problem

Just updated mine too. Installed 6230N all 3 of my connection works. Maybe need restart? or restart routers?

It's probably your AV software that blocks that driver. Either this or you need to run it as admin. Try again with the AV disabled.

Got it working, Octiceps was right you need to go to properties and apply " run as admin " .

I think when you are clicking the backup.bat it opens another instance of the software that is not previlaged by the admin.

I am getting Error 284: Fail to load driver (PCI access for Windows) >> (also tried with admin previlage ) it says "fptw64.exe is not recognized....." in the backup section. I tried using the DOS version but it wont work as well.

My Y500 is also running a copy of Windows 8 Pro that I clean installed. I did a UEFI installation from a FAT32-formatted USB flash drive. I have no problems booting in UEFI mode. In fact, I purposely did a UEFI installation and formatted my HDD as GPT for the benefits such as better boot times and more partitions.

As for the BIOS backup, you need to right-click on fptw64.exe, check "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab, and then double-click on backup.bat. It will automatically generate a backup of your current BIOS in the same folder.

I can't be of any more help tonight as I need to go to bed. If you have any other questions, others may be able to answer them for you, otherwise I will see them tomorrow morning.

I am having problem backing up the my bios. it says on CMD admin previlage "-d" is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file

What OS do you have? And was it a UEFI or legacy installation?

If it's the preloaded Windows 8 it should have no problems booting in UEFI, that's what it's designed for. Even if you switch boot mode to Legacy you still have to choose UEFI First (as opposed to Legacy First), otherwise it won't even enter Windows because it can't load the proper EFI boot files.

This is a windows 8 pro version that i used for clean install. I just made a new windows 8 single language from the core volume and i will use that to format my laptop after bios mod.

I already did the 2nd step which is to make a usb dos bootable drive. I dont know how to backup my BIOS and get my serial key. any help would be great.

Im at 2.02 now. Had problem booting in UEFI mode. Changed it to Legacy and it booted into windows. Is this okay?

Yes you need to update to 2.02 official via the Lenovo leak and then to 2.04 modded. Follow the instructions in the OP carefully and if you have any questions at all ask here before blundering on ahead, it can save you a lot of grief during the process.

I just ordered the keyboard skin from HK , buy 1 colored take 1 transparent. I got for my 2 laptops. the z400 and my y500.

Just arrived yesterday. The materials used for the z400 skin is defenetly better than the y500. The z400 skin (Purple )is thicker and you can type on it. The y500 skin ( yellow ) is just to thin and glossy that the keys get stuck when you put it in . You cannot type at all with the skin in place.

been asking for replacement and he said that the skin is the same with z400 and y500, but that is not the case. I am not dumb enough not to know the difference. IMO

If anyone of you has a better skin for out amazing laptop, please do post it

So true! you should give win8 a chance. Only parts missing is the start button and the new metro UI(which you could bring back with 3rd party softwares).

Also the win 8.1 preview is out now which fixes the tiles on the metro UI which really could help.

New here. I think the WiFi direct wont work if you don't have Intel integrated graphics enabled ( like the y400 y500 ) correct me if I'm wrong hope this helped! ( sorry i dont know the model of your laptop)
