  1. Hey guys new Nvidia Drivers 337.5 available here Nvidia GeForce 337.50 BETA - Discussion & Download - Page 11 - Guru3D.com Forums
  2. Weird. My setup wouldn't run when red light would show up...
  3. You shouldn't get the red light when the PE4L isn't connected to the laptop. It should ALWAYS be yellow and green. Please have a look again.
  4. @Draulon When your eGPU is connected to your laptop, and you have the green and yellow lights, what do you see in the device manager under "display adapters"? @amarD I'm not sure if it's a power issue indeed. Do you have a PSU from a frien or laying around to make the test?
  5. Did you try to plug the eGPU to your laptop with or without Setup 1.x? Before turning on the laptop? When you turn on the eGPU setup you should have a green and orange lights. Try playing around.
  6. I hope that you're right about the "engineering experiement". It doesn't seem solid at all. The maximal length of the cable is 60 cm! There's no way I can use that. Wonder what Tech Inferno Fan can say about it. I'll just wait for him to post about this.
  7. Nevermind. I don't know why I was thinking a fan that would be on the GPU. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
  8. Probably, but how would you do it? And that hot air would be blowing in the case so the temps are going up anyway.
  9. Yeah, I loved BF3 (though I bought it a while after it got released, so I never dealt with any bugs). Played the Beta, it was laggy as hell, but I liked the textures and the gameplay. Bought it on preorder. First couple of weeks I didn't play it since everytime I joined a server it crashed after 1 min. Since December, I had very minor issues. I enjoy a lot the game. BU, I didn't buy anything from EA, they're too expensive. I suggest to any of you to go on g2a.com. If you search BF4 Premium (all DLCs and features), you'll see they have it for less than 60 EUR.
  10. Oh actually I have an old laptop that worked very nicely but then the screen broke. The laptop can turn and the screen would stay black. So I wanted to figure out a way to repair it without having to change the screen itself which would be pretty costly.
  11. Hi, I'm really interested in how you managed to take apart your laptop in order to plug in your monitor. I looked around on the net but didn't find anything that would have brought me any close to what you've done. Good job BTW.
  12. @shrimpcocktails Did you do the DSDT override? It's an important step in all the setup process.
  13. @angerthosenear Thanks for the clarification. I use Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 but had too many crashes/issues so downgraded back to Win8. Haha, that's my fertile imagination @jacobsson I already tested the unpark-core utility in Windows 7, but that didn't impact much the FPS, more the smoothness. In Windows 8, gains aren't that important either in BF4, maybe 5 FPS. However minimal FPS in Crysis 3 went from 15 to 27 or so in the "Welcome to the Jungle".
  14. Ok since I managed to have eGPU run in Windows 8, I'll say how I made it. Fist thing I installed Windows 8 in MBR (don't know if it changes anything though). Once done, turned on eGPU, plugged it in laptop while logged into Windows 8. It showed in Device Manager with error 31. Nevermind, I installed the Nvidia latest drivers and turned off PC and eGPU. Then turned eGPU on, plugged to laptop, turned on laptop and got into Setup 1.2, enabled Gen2, chainload MBR without compaction even if I received the warning message. The result is in attached. No big improvements though in FPS BUT in Crysis 3, in Welcome to the jungle, while minimal FPS hit 15 with Windows 7, it didn't get under 27 with Windows 8, Not bad huh?
  15. Can I do these steps in Setup 1.2? I installed Windows 8 but just can't to get the .aml file. I'm kinda giving it up. Thanks for your help EDIT: Hey guys, I don't why but I decided to just plug the GTX 660 and install the drivers. It showed the GFX with error 13 (I can't remember) asking me to restart. After some tries, I plugged the GFX before turning on the laptop, then went into setup 1.2, enabled gen2, then chainloaded without any compaction at all. AND IT'S WORKING. GPU-Z gives me the @2.0 with Physx and all enabled. I guess I'm some real lucky guy lol I'm going to do tests and play some BF4.
  16. Hey Tech Inferno Fan does that mean some performance gain over Windows 7? I mean having eGPU fully running under Windows 8?
  17. Hey guys. Randomly I have screen freezes in games and have to manually restart laptop. I hope the GPU is not faulty...
  18. Sorry for misleading I thought the i5-520m was a serie 6.
  19. GPU-Z should show a "x16 @2.0", either way you'll need a setup 1.x to enable Gen2 link speed if you can't do it through the BIOS. Also in Nvidia control panel make sure to change the Physx to your GFX card (I think it's in "3D managing settings").
  20. Maybe you'll have to enable the Gen2 link speed for the port. Since you don't have it in your bios you'll need setup 1.x. But just to make sure what's your CPU? Is it an intel 6 series or after? @coolioboy23 I don't think there's any improvements between a 34/54 EC I guess. It would be a known workaround.
  21. If you're about to buy a PE4L, you don't have to worry since you'll see its name on the site You can probably upgrade the CPU, it seems that you have a PPGA478 socket,, but I don't know if yours is soldered or no. And even if so, the upgrade benefits are negligeable. If you can run NFS Most Wanted then yes adding a eGPU would boost the improvements...Of how much? Maybe 70%+ or even 80%. I guess you should be able to play NFS Rivals at decent frames (around 30) on low settings etc.
  22. @coolioboy23 Well it seems that you have a GM965, with Intel GMA iGPU and no dGPU as most of notebooks (if I'm not wrong). Now it looks like you have an Expresscard slot, which is handy to put in a eGPU setup (rather than opening your notebook and hook it inside). You probably could make a PE4L-2.1,@x1, maybe @x2 but that is more technical for me. Hope I helped.
  23. I raise my hand for a full x16 PCIe slot with lock (I have to put some paper under my PE4L otherwise the GPU screwed in the case is too high so the PE4L is too loose and sometimes disconnects...) I also find that the HDMI cable isn't very well wired to the PE4L, kind of loose.
  24. @cheRRymonk, are you hotplugging the eGPU after windows welcome screen, or from the start? Just make sure that you have yellow and green light when you're plugging it not the red light. Did you run a PCI compaction, or DSDT override? @UPsimmer4330 you have to plug all wires together (I don't think I'm any help sorry, let's say than you have a 6 pin for the GPU, a 4 pin from the PE4L to the GPU, 4 pin for PSU and GPU and the 12 pin for the switch which came with your PE4L, once all this wired together, you'll have to turn he setup all at once by flipping the switch on the piece where you plugged the 12 pin. If you succeed you must try to play with the switches on the PE4L until you have the yellow and green ligthts
  25. Hi if all other games work fine, then try to look in the game laucher, there are few options like "full screen" and "exclusive fullscreen", not quite sure if it'll work but might be worth try cheking-uncheking those...
