1. i got it up and working again by using the Eurocom alienware m15x gtx7xx drivers 311.27 but i cant upgrade to a newer version. gives me the no compatable hardware message when i try.I heard i need to modify the .inf file or something. can anyone give me help with this ???

Hi, look here at post #80 where I've explained this process:

    http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x-aw-17/3702-m17x-r3-gpu-upgrade-gtx-780m-8.html#post57849

The modified inf that I attached to that post is an old one, so you might want to download a newer one from laptopvideo2go, like I explained in that post I linked above.

EDIT: for some reason the modified inf file at laptopvideo2go is unavailable right now, maybe temporarily. You can use the modified inf that I attached at that link, should work.

    Hi all!

svl7: about a year ago maybe, you hooked me up with nvidia vbios update for my clevo 675mx 4gb card. still runs great, thanks again!!

update: just thought anyone using this particular card should have a heads up. today, nvidia released a new graphics driver for this card but for some reason after the install, msi afterburner wouldnt overclock my system anymore. Anyone else having this problem? i rolled the driver back to the last stable release and now overclocking is working fine again. did a clean/proper install of the newer drivers twice and still no go. if anyone has any ideas, id sure like to know xD

Mine's working fine with latest NVidia driver, and NVInspector.

  2. hi so i have a alienware m15x with a gtx 780m in it. The dell 4 gb version. It was running 326 beta drivers and when i tried to upgrade through device manager it updated and it wont recognize the card. I cant play any games cause without getting the direct 3d is not enabled message. I knew i had a problem when msi afterburner didn't give me temperatures. Ive tried installing drivers through invidia with no luck. Can someone please help me. cpu is a 920xm if that matters.

Am I right in thinking that it was working fine with the 326 beta drivers? I wouldn't upgrade drivers through device manager, I'd use the normal NVidia setup program along with a modified inf. Assuming that your card was working fine before, and you don't have hardware issues, then I'd recommend uninstalling all NVidia drivers, running CCleaner registry cleaner to remove any remaining entries, then installing the latest NVidia drivers using the normal method with modified inf (not device manager).

  3. and after i used the new vbios, i can overclock my gpu? is that right? if it is so, how can i overclock it?

Just the same as how you'd overclock any other GPU. Try NVInspector. I'm surprised you're considering flashing a new vBIOS when you haven't had any experience with overclocking before. I think you could benefit by googling around the subject to learn a bit more about it.

  4. Firstly, I just want to say that it's great what you did svl7!

I am looking for a vBios for my Alienware 18 (the new model) running Nvidia GTX780m SLI.

I've never flushed vBios before and just want to make sure I am using the correct vBios.

I went to the first page of this thread and downloaded file: Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip

I just wanted to double check before I go and do something silly. Thanks for your help.

I think you've chosen the right one, that's the one that will allow you to change voltages & clock speeds using NVInspector.

  5. Actualmente tengo oceado mi i7-3840qm a 4,1 desde la bios=enabled extreme edition. Tendré problemas en un futuro por no ser XM? Saludos

Currently I have my i7-3840qm oceado to 4.1 from extreme edition bios = enabled. I have problems in the future by not XM? Regards

That 3840QM should be good for gaming for years; the GPU will be obsolete before you need to upgrade the CPU.

  6. I got one of these medion erazer notebooks..

They are very cheap and have very good cooling, especially those designed by the german hardware community pc games hardware.

Got the x7819 and with a gtx 670mx overclocked i can reach high framerates on games like crysis 3 and rome 2 for just under ~1200€

Hi Rambo, you've got the same GPU as me; yep, they're awesome for overclocking. Did you flash a modded vBIOS to it? How far did you manage to overclock it?

  7. Yes bros, i think i am getting more and more desperate, it is now more than 2 months after i got my 780m and every single solution to get it working in my R2 has Failed, this started to make me think about a solutions that wold most likely end up...badly.

    Thanks :)

Haha, yes, I can see how that's happening! :-) Don't get too desperate & ruin them though, sell them instead!

  8. I wonder if i could flash my 780m with 680m GHz vbios edition...... just because 680m works in R2 and my 780m is not....more likely card brick if i do so ?

Gees Man, I really don't think that would work, it's a whole different chip & piece of silicon, with different number of transistors & shaders, I really don't see how that could work!

EDIT: or do you mean GTX 680 rather than GTX 680M, in which case I think the 780M is based on the GTX 680, but with lower clocks & different voltages. Still don't know what you'd gain by flashing it, why not just overclock & overvolt as you see fit. Confused. I think you're getting confused between the GTX 680M and GTX 680.

  9. Dont the 670mx in SLI draw too much power for a 330watt brick?

I calculated that my overclocked 670MX uses about 85W of power when gaming, and my entire system uses 145W when gaming. If I was to imagine that I'm adding another 670MX to simulate sli, then that would mean 230W power consumption for my fictional laptop. So it looks like a 330W power brick would be enough, and a 240W brick would be pushing it a bit fine.

  10. It hits 12600 in 3dmark11 Graphics when overclocked to 1.025v that most 680m vbios are set at. Stock 680m is around 11000 so yeah the 670mx go beyond stock speeds of 680m sli.

Yep, those 670mx GPU's overclock like nobodies business! I've had similar success with mine, albeit I don't have an sli enabled notebook.

  11. how could someone go to such core. mine is 850. the temp hike like hell to 92c ..aaaaa.

Your temperatues are going to be based on a number of factors:

    1) What model of laptop do you have? Different cooling systems have different efficiencies.

    2) Have you blown the dust out of the heat sink using a can of compressed air?

    3) Was the thermal paste applied properly to the GPU core? Is it the heatsink padded up correctly & installed correctly?

    4) What is the ambient temperature in your room? Hotter = hotter GPU.

    5) Are you using a notebook cooler? Can drop temperatures by 5degC or so.

    6) Are you using the laptop on a flat surface, so that the fan inlets & outlets aren't obstructed.

Those are all the factors that will effect your GPU temperature that I can think of.

  12. That's right. A multiple of 24 is best for watching films. Setting it at other values like 67Hz causes the video player to playout frames unevenly. If I owned an overclockable 60Hz LCD, I would have a multiple of 24 for films, of 25 for some PAL (EU AND UK framerate) and the highest possible for gaming.

Right, thanks for the info. I'll create some different profiles of those multiples. 72Hz for film watching if it's on a DVD or something (I'll use FRAPS to check what the actual framerate is first), 75Hz for watching BBC iplayer, and I may up it to the limit of 78Hz that I can get for games. Thanks.

Does video content sync it's output to a complete frame then, like Vsync in games (if the multiple of Hz fits)? Because if it didn't sync it's output anyway, then would it not matter what your Hz setting was anyway?

  13. Ok, thanks. Hmm, what happens if I set up a RAID and am in a situation where the Intel RST DOS program is needed?

My system is setup as RAID (even though I don't have the drives in a RAID configuation), and it's not an issue. I still get the splash screen for the OROM (think that's the term) for the RAID, the svl7 Tech Inferno splash screen is the first one, then the RAID splash screen, then BIOS post. Does that answer your question, not sure if that's what you were asking?

  14. would be better to set the refresh rate at 96hz. That would sync up nicely with 24fps films giving good motion without any judder.

96 or 72 right? Just multiples of 24 I guess? Setting it at some other 'random' value isn't any worse than the 60Hz most screens offer right?

    - - - Updated - - -

It can't hurt. Increasing the refresh rate does stress CRTs more, but LCDs cannot be damaged by doing this. Most power draw is by the backlight and this does not affect that at all.

Well that's good to know, gives me some piece of mind, thanks. :-)

  15. That's pretty cool that you guys are pushing 100Hz on those screens, I managed 78Hz on mine, but backed it down to 75Hz because I didn't want to be right on the edge & maybe damage the monitor. Yep, I do have a different laptop to you guys, but wanted to post my results anyway. I sure would like 100Hz!

Are you concerned that it will damage your screens over time? Or do you know it won't do any harm, I'm just not sure about that, but decided to run mine overclocked 24/7 anyway! :-)

EDIT: Don't seem to be getting any skipped frames with the tests I've done.

  16. i think g750jx price is reasonable..770m with i7 haswell or if u could find a used msi gt783 with 580m that will be sweet too, well the bottom part is ur budget.

Good advice I think, but I wouldn't recommend the 580M - it's last generation tech, runs hot with high current consumption, has a fairly high hardware failure rate, and is nowhere near as fast as the 770M. The 770M is excellent though.

  17. 1) After flashing to the 780M OC Edition rev 2 vbios, instead of the Intel RST splash screen that normally appears before POST, I get a new splash screen indicating I flashed the vbios using Tech Inferno software. I'm assuming this is normal, but how can I get the Intel RST splash screen again or the default one.

    2) A 50 MHz on my 780M gave me 38 Mhz OC instead, a 90 MHz OC via Nvidia Inspector gives me a 78 MHz OC instead when running Unigine Heaven. What's the reason of the offset? GPU-Z also reports that the GPU didn't throttle. Why?

    Thanks.

I think svl7 has created that Tech Inferno splash screen so that the vBIOS cannot just be copied by anybody & masqueraded as someone elses work, I think it's just a stamp of authentication. (Apparently Chinese websites were copying his vBIOS files & masquerading them as their own).

It's normal for the actual Mhz to differ slightly from the set OC Mhz. This is because there are distinct 'steps' of Mhz that the GPU can operate at. Whenever you set you OC Mhz value to a value that is not one of these exact 'steps', then it will default to the next lowest 'step'.
