  1. Awesome review! Very well made and write. Very educative too. Hope Michael Dell will get to read it... or, at least, take in consideration SERIOUSLY that:

"The M18x is a great system but Dell’s service leaves a lot to be desired." [endquote]

If we consider that the GPU were not pasted, etc. AND that a customer service is part of a system, then again: it's an evidence of the lack of a transparent Total Quality Control and Assurance at selecting and assembling parts, at manufacturing, boxing & delivering and at "post sell" service...

It's almost painful to think that such a engineering beauty, supossed to be a real state-of-the-art 'flagship', with such awesome potentials, is achieving at the end so a weak TQC&service...

  2. Finally some takedown pics. This was provided by SmoothJ at NBR.

RAM Upgrade - M18x (with pics)

This is the way a real tutorial must take. +1

I hope someone will pick the idea of making a special folder to congregate tutorials like this so others can have easy access to them without searching and researching among the forums pages.

(I think, maybe I'm confusing things, that Joker started something like this somewhere but. I forgot where it was).

  3. Matte screens are horrible outside.

And the M18x screen, even uncalibrated it just fine. I had the RGBLED on the M17x-R2 and it was awesome but this isn't a colossal downgrade and now that I have it in hand I feel a little silly for being concerned in the first place. ;)

Maybe it just depend on what someone do with the screen besides gaming? ;)

  4. For me it depends on the laptop involved, something like an M18x would get no benefit from a matte screen as realistically it's unlikely to be used outside. Something like the M11x absolutely benefits from matte.

We too don't use it 'outside': we use our laptops in a lab environment, very illuminated of course, and in classrooms, conference rooms where we must keep lights on to see the faces and the eyes of our students.

  5. I don't use my R2 elsewhere than my desk, so I enjoy the glossy screen, for outdoor usage though I would seriously consider a mate screen. We can create a thread with a poll to see how many people prefer the mate over the glossy option.

Hope you will do. But this poll can be somehow limited...

There's my question: do someone know and can point us to some reliable stats? with a significant sample? I have my own 'sample' reading many forums but I have been unnable to find reliable stats. Some magazine, seem to be a serious one, has published the results of such a poll but there aren't the data relative to this poll: how many samples, etc. I have heard of a poll made by Lenovo and another by Apple... but they keep the 'secrets' of the relevant data... all of them seems to be in favor of the matte panel but, without the relevant data... the poll is useless for any puposes. They just give us an 'impression' of a reality.

  6. For me the screen is the only reason that holds me from buying one and I stick with the R2, if that means anything to you ;)

So, we are in the same 'boat'... (which I could be too in the NYC part of it, so I can be with my beloved daughter :40_002:)

Do someone have any substantial stats on how many prefer matte screens over glossy ones? It can be interesting (and not just for us).

  7. I saw it calibrated and it's not that bad actually, it's above average but it's not 1200p and not RGB LED...

and not IPS... In sum, it imposse sever limitations for one that needs beside gaming, to do some high quality graphic and media work... Really I love the design the dual GPU option, etc. but the real turn down for me and my fellow colleagues is the display. Else we all were massively buying it. Then, we still are seating on the fence...

  8. :snicker:

I've been using Panda for years now...but it's very hard on the resources. I use MSSE for the past year n half an it does the job. But mind you,Panda is the best out there IMO as well. Totally agree with Ash.

Back to topic, has the OP's stutter fixed..???

By MSSE you mean: "Multiple Self-Healing Squamous Epithelioma"? :snicker:

  9. Well here is some images, the m18x-R1 Black with the m17x-R1 Red.

Can I also buy a vowel? I think Brian is been playing global Agenda to long because he keeps speaking in military jargon what is the ULPS? Not all here speak l33t.:50_002:

    Thanks for those beautiful pics!

Please can you make one more comparative of the two displays side by side with the same background/or game pic in them?

(and, if it's not too much: a comparative of the resolution of two identical objects in each one of them?)

    Thanks in advance!!!

  10. Dell does have an ideas portal here where you can submit changes you want and it's voted on by the community. Popular ideas are sometimes put into products: IdeaStorm |

Welcome to T|I warp(d)alien and thanks!

Dear Brian, I know the mentioned portal. Many years ago I post there some 'ideas'. I even saw other very good ideas there... What I don't see is serious considerations / answers from Dellienware... They don't reveal a readiness to survey the ideas and publish their considerations or rejections fundaments. This kind of 'discusions' or elaborations on ideas or hypothesis is a must to break to closed circle where ideas are posted but the reactions to them are close to zero...

If they do really respect some of the ideas they can open a "lab" (even a virtual one) for prototipe those ideas (and experiment with some of them) with the participation of the posters /and or consumers... Many makers do so openly. Some universities (like Texas's Austin, or MIT, Haifa's Technion, etc.) offer many facilities for this purposes.

  11. There is also rumor that RGB LED will make a comeback to M18x later on in the fall. If all of this turns out being true, I think it will be for M18x-R2 rather than the current revision.

I do hope so!!! Also I hope Dellienware will open a chanel (social survey?) to listen to the market and the consumers and finally decide to add, toghether with the RGB-LED (and or + IPS) a MATTE configuration option... OR they can (finally) use their 2 brain hemisferes to design and provide a so called "Snap-In/Snap-Out" Edge2Edge cover for the people that enjoy glossy (and the look of their own faces...). It will be a good bussines for them and a very good option for us.

Brian, Michael, StamatisX, Ashtefere and all the others: I'm new here. It has been a long time I wanted to join this forum but for working reasons haven't the time for it. Now, finally I'm here to learn from the posters. Congratulation Brian for all your efforts here!!!
