Did a power drain while it was running for at least 30+ seconds, plugged it back in and am not seeing any throttles.

Do you want me to test it while its not plugged in? or pull the power on it while its benching? Not sure if I did what you wanted.

Did you have throttle with the newest driver before? when using UEFI ?

The reason of throttle might have been UEFI, as you've mentioned, or maybe driver?

When you have time, you can try legacy + old driver (that you've experienced throttle).

Haven't seen any power throttles whatsoever in about all the games I've played so far, runs smooth been keeping an eye on gpuz as well. I haven't tried any power drains yet? What are you referring to if I may ask?

Can you try to remove your AC power from the back of your laptop and after 10 sec put it again.

And then see what happen, see if there is still no throttle.

I am asking you because the throttle did not always happened but after this kind of power drain, it started to happen.

I can probably help you to recover it, but first I need to know exactly what you flashed there. A Link please ...

Also let me know in case you remember your EC version.

Thank god, the seller helped me get it fixed.

I thought I sent you the email, but it came back saying "it contains possible risk virus.... blah" :(

    Thanks alot for your concern.

    Hey,

I made a post on NBR about this, and there were a few posts in this thread about it, but I didn't find a definitive answer.

No matter what I do, I can't get the TDP to unlock. I've tried XTU, bios, and Throttlestop, but everytime I benchmark in XTU, it caps at 55w or so, give or take a few. Highest I've seen was 57w maybe.

Am I the only one with this problem?

No you are the only one.

@j95 and I have mentioned the problem a few years ago already.

No one has solved it. There is no way to unlock the true "TDP lock" in m17x R4.

That's why it is very important to use "good" CPU in m17x R4. The max TDP it can handle is 68w.

  5. Looking at the image Nvidia released I'm a bit concerned:

If that's the only form factor for the 980 mobile, then that won't work for any system. For Clevo systems the middle post between the GPU and CPU would need to be removed. In addition the core is shifted slightly leftward, so heatsinks will need to be heavily modified. The left post for screwing the card and memory heatsink is moved leftward as well, and oh yeah, making contact with those left side memory chips will be fun. Hopefully this is an ASUS card as they always make funky shaped cards. I'm hoping for a standard size card with a thicker pcb like AMD cards to get memory clocks up, but I'll likely be disappointed.

Also the card in that image has 4 cores phases.

ASUS card has always been such way.

I hope othre vendors aren't that way.

  6. It might be physical space, or maybe the P870DM will have two motherboard designs and one can use a mobile 980 and the other can use SLI 980Ms? =D.

That being said, the huge 200W mobile 980 doesn't have a SLI connector.

MSI GT80 is coming out with 980 too. I am not sure whether it is coming out with SLI or single configuration though.

  7. It'd better. If I waited 15 months to still have the 980m as the top mxm gpu at the same $720, I'll be pissed.

If the new card is incompatible with the P150EM, at least 980m prices will drop a lot on ebay from AW, MSI and later Clevo users upgrading.

p8xxdm is coming out with 980m sli or 980 single.

From this configuration, I am thinking that 980 is compatible with the old mxm but need something.

The "something" may be power or thermal control.

  8. Exactly, but switching to PEG and turning off the iGPU results in 8 pieps and a black screen. Reseting the BIOS (back to SG) and i can start the R3.

I've tried clevo 7970 in m17x R3 years ago. Never succeeded. I think clevo vbios doesn't work for m17x R3.

After the fail, I got Dell 7970 and it worked flawlessly except for the dimmed screen which could be solved by hwinfo.
