1. As I know 84.04.22.00.0A is the vbios for MSI - - - Updated - - - Mr. Fox @J95 Yes I have reached Prema and svl7. Prema helped me alot but not with successful results yet. And I think svl7 is busy.
2. But clevo notebooks can have 980m SLI. SLI dont have optimus.
3. One more thing. That guy said he bought from EUROCOM. I jus got a mail from EUROCOM Hello. I have been watching your Techinferno experience.. There is no 84.04.58.00.F2 vbios, or if there is I have not located it. The current vbios available that I have are: 84.04.22.00.10 84.04.22.00.12 84.04.22.00.0A I know from testing the 10 and 12 work in P570WM. 10 works in P15xSM and P17xSM 12 works in P37xSM. And of course the default SM-A. None of these work in the M18x R1. Kevin Honeyman | Technical Support Specialist | Eurocom Corporation
4. I think that guy is faking. That's Wesley-Alex who was permanently banned from techinferno. If "automatically view results at 3dmark.com" is clicked then the score must be shown in the web. But it is not. I think he is lying again. Look at this. This is his old fake-shot of 3920xm + 680m sli 2 yrs ago.
5. Can someone get 980m vbios 84.04.58.00.F2 version? PM me, I will give my email address.
6. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M Thanks to "haru" from korean alienware foum who found another chinese success screen shot. I have no idea whether it is optimus or not. He didn't mention. All he mentioned was that he got it from EUROCOM. The good thing about this screen shot is that vbios is DIFFERENT!! 84.04.22.00.10 84.04.22.00.12 84.04.22.00.0A were vbios that I've got This guy has 84.04.58.00.F2 (right? the screenshot is blur)
7. Very happy to hear that. Thank you! I dont think there is much I can do now. I really dont want to use optimus. I'd rather use cheaper machines if I had to use optimus. The main reason I use alienware is that it is MUXed (non-optimus), it looks good, it feels good to own one(or more). Anyway I will be waiting for the new vbios that will cure this
8. Last word before I go to bed. Yeah if that's true, I am doing some useless things. But I am sure I have the two right clevo vbios. (v12 and v10) It was given by clevo and prema. And this GPU with v12 works on clevo model perfectly without optimus. - - - Updated - - - BTW, I succeeded installing NVIDIA driver with optimus on. I will do some benches with it and take shots and post here tomorrow. gotta go now. - - - Updated - - - And if time allows me, I will borrow the 980m that my friend bought and try sli on m18x R2 on weekends. Disassebling m18x R2 is not fun
9. i think so. Mr. Fox I will do more tests tomorrow. I am in trouble its 3AM here.
10. The picture is showing v10. My stock is v12. I got v10 from prema. I can post with optimus on. you know what i mean right? That's how I nvflashed. Booting with intel IG and then flahsing. I failed to install driver with v12 even with optimus on. The Chinese who succeeded used v10 with optimus on. - - - Updated - - - But I am sure he will not be able to use PEG only - - - Updated - - - which means the way that Chinese succeded can not be used for people with 3D-alienware or people who do not want to use optimus. - - - Updated - - - Not sure about that.
11. yes you are right. But under "optimus". He cant Fn F7. That will make it not post though. I am gonna try v10 optimus (vbios is v10 (last number) which is clevo single vbios.) If only optimus works, SLI & PEG only are impossible. For me, if I have to use optimus, there is really no reason to use alienware since optimus is really annoying.
12. This is wonderful. Okay. Now that vbios is v10 which I flashed just to fail, and which my friend just bought from clevo and failed. What the heck? Can you give us more information how he did it? - - - Updated - - - One thing to add. That chinese did it with optimus. That's interesting.
13. This is my friends 980m with vbios v10. It doesn't work. I just want to let people not to waste $1k just to find out it doesn't work. (at least now with clevo 980m)
14. Personally I am hoping for someone who can bravely test MSI version of 980m in alienware.
15. HID has reputation. But they and some ebay sellers have listed "for alienware" "AW18 980m sli" even before they got the GPU. This is why I've asked them to show me the evidence that 980m works on alienware. HID said they've not even tried the configuration. And upgrademonkey says they need to test more. I really dont like to distrust people. However in this case, I think I have to before anyone really come out to show his/her alienware with 980m. - - - Updated - - - I meant "the problem is not the driver". I misstyped. sorry for that.
16. I see. I thought without new bios support, maxwell GPU wouldn't work on SM series. I was wrong about that. - - - Updated - - - If I were in US, I'd love to pass the card to you. Too bad I am in Korea and it is not mine. I think I got about a week or so to test this and then I gotta return it back the Korean Clevo-reseller "Hansung". The problem is the driver because this doens't even let alienware post. And I feel same as you for the soldered laptops. The new '18 MSI 980m sli monster came out with HQ cpu. I think alienware will come out like that (with CPU soldered at least). I wont pay to buy things like that. Rather I'd change to clevo p37x series or the clevo's new desktop CPU model.
17. Well 980m doens't work in AW17 (both 3D and non-3D). Since I dont have AW18, I can't test the card on it but I am pretty sure it wont work on AW18. - - - Updated - - - Old clevo notebooks need new bios to work with 980m. So this issue might be not merely vbios problem but alienware bios problem. Nothing is for sure though. My best guess.
18. Everything failed. This is the answer from upgrademonkey (ebay seller) whom I think is the most honest. "Hi We are waiting for the MSI version ,and it should be better compatibility than Clevo version, according to a MSI engineer privately. , but not tested yet. so not guaranteed from us." I will wait for mod-vbios. I've done everything I can and I am kinda happy that at least I found out current vbios of 980m dont work on alienware. So dont waste money folks.
19. Okay thanks. I'll try that too. One more thing to do : I got v11 from Korean Clevo Reseller. I dont know what is the difference between v10 and v11, but I'll give it a shot.
20. Yeah you're right. I was just hoping clevo msi 980m vbios would work on alienware as old days (780m 880m) and vise versa. I guess not this time. Since dell doens't sell 980m labtop, one of the "mighty" vbios modder has to do some work for us or we are all stuck in pre-maxwell era.
21. One thing to add, I have asked HID and ebay sellers who sells 980m and say it is compatible on alienware, just to give me a screen shot of device manager that show 980m in alienware. I also asked them how sure they are in regard of compatibility of 980m in alienware. No one yet has answered. Still waiting for them.
22. Yes you are right. I am just assuming. I've asked them to show me if they have any 3dmark result yesterday. If they were able to make that configuration, there wouldn't be any reason for them to just show the 3dmark result to me. And I've changed the GPU. The Korean Clevo reseller has changed the GPU and still no go I am like "alone in the dark".
23. Thanks for your reply. Yes Ive already tried both uefi and legacy. As you said some resellers are selling AW18 with 980m sli. But to be honest I dont think they even have tested that configuration. If they did, how come there is no alienware with 980m listed in 3dmark results. If I were to sell that kind of thing, I'd definitely go test it with 3dmark benches before anything. @J95 Nvidia driver doesnt work with IG on. And I am at wotk now(not with my r4), were we able to off sound in R4?
