I believe the lack of thermal headroom, especially regarding the CPU, is holding us back. The CPU is already running near its limit and any increase in the temperature of the GPU directly affects the CPU since they share the same cooling system.
I've never seen temps over 82C on the CPU; with it being the 3230qm with a temp threshold of 95c before it starts throttling I know I still have some wiggle room, especially after I buy a laptop cooling pad.

Hey svl7, definately sending you some booze money soon, really appreciate your fine work.
Any chance we can get a vmod on the GPUs? I'm up to 1175/1135 on mine with temps not exceeding 80c but they seem to be thirsty for more power in order to continue further. Thanks again for your work.

Did some digging and it seems the best you can step up to with your laptop at the moment is a 670m. People are hoping a new G75 is released with the 680m so that they can upgrade; seeing as the slot in the G75 is not a generic MXM slot you can't pop in just any card. You have to purchase a compatible one from Asus. Not sure about the RAM or SSDs

One more vote for the Lenovo Y series. New happy owner here.

Y500 GT750m SLI is now available on the Lenovo site. And here I sit having just opened my new Y500...oh well.

Use nVidia Inspector to tweak driver settings, like SLI Rendering mode.

Any success, OP?

Try installing a previous driver version. 310 and up causes problems, or so I hear.

Thanks for the informative post. I'll have a go running BF3 with Throttlestop enabled and see what kind of temperatures I get.
Edit: Yeah, things got toasty quick. Most games seem to be GPU-bound on this system anyway, so it isn't too bothersome.
