  1. @coolguystan - Not a bad choice. I'm leaning that direction too now. Primarily because M14x seems to score pretty low performance on battery, and that was one thing I was looking for, to replace that functionality of my M11x. But I can't get any hard numbers from anywhere for someone to run their 3DMark06 or Vantage or 3DMark11 with 555m on battery to get a comparison.

    Did you get the upgraded 95% gamut screen or stock matte?

    This CAN game on battery but it is HEAVILY downclocked. I think it is sitting somewhere between the 320m and 330m on battery.

    Mine actually came stock with the 95% gamut glossy screen.

  3. My god. I would say that screen is toast. Did you try messing with the calibration settings? I had a netbook that came with a screen where there would be red vertical lines going down the screen. I messed with the calibration settings as a last resort before returning it. It worked. Seemed the pixels were stuck or something.

  4. thank you for your input Mw86. i did as asked and i did the diagnostics test with f12, my results were fine. i called in to dell, and they told me that the issue was with the mobo graphic controller. the cpu runs fine but when the OC is added it goes crazy. even the smallest OC (from 9954 to 10000) makes the intel graphics go haywire. the "agent" i spoke with was underminding my knowlege of the system and telling me that the issue is with the mobo as opposed to the cpu. i can overclock the nvidia card to 770 stable on multiple games yet he insists that the culprit is the mobo. and when i told him about the excessive tim that was applied, as well as how the tech just came in and rushed out with out care for the CPU they told me that i would never get a CPU replacement. aside from that he was bending the rules on how my 3rd repair visit did not mean i would have to get a new system. with my m11x they told explicitly that after the 3rd visit i would have a choice of either sending it to a dell repair depot or getting a new system. heh, this is madness and im fed up. lets see how this pans out... if all fails then another email to [email protected] should clear up the problem. ive had countless issues with the m11r2 and now with my m14x. i will complain untill i get a new system AND some compensation for this hassle. if all else fails i will just flat out ask for a refund and go buy mac or something.

    And THAT in the end, is what stopped mr from getting alienware. Their horrible customer service. I ended up getting a malibal lotus P151HM1. I love it. I should probably change my sig though.

  5. Here are some screenshots and a video I made that shows the performance capabilities of the nvidia 555mGT. I am tired of hearing that the 555 gets "raped" by the 460 and of course the 560. It is natural that the 560 should be faster but the 555 is actually close to equal to the 460 when overclocked regardless of the GDDR5.

    The video shows Just Cause 2, Metro 2033 and Battlefield Bad Company 2. Just cause and Metro are just screen shots of the benchmarks and the settings. You can clearly see that yes, the 555 does take a performance hit between 720 and 1080p. This also clearly shows that games ARE playable at 1080p settings.

    BFBC2 gameplay shows an average of over 60fps at 1080p on high settings (shadows low). The action is heavy so nobody can say "but he was staring at the ground" BS either.

    Is the nvidia 555 going to turn water into wine and part the sea, nope. Absolutely not. It is going to provide gameplay at resolutions up to 1080p? Yes, it does that.

    The Nvidia 555mGT

    @720p - plays games at high/max settings

    @900p - plays games at medium/high settings

    @1080p - plays games at MEDIUM/high settings

    Re: Cracked hinge!

    UPDATE on my hinges. So upon closer inspection it appears that whatever little Chinese lady standing at the conveyer belt with my machine on it, never actually snapped the plastic pieces together. I noticed the pieces notch into each other, so I pressed firmly on the lower half, and after a solid "click" sound both pieces are seamlessly into place.

    This is good.
