Hello,

I've just got a used HP Elitebook 2560p (Win7,i5 2520m) and a used sapphire dual-x AMD HD7970.

I also have setup 1.30 test2b i installed, PEAL 2.1b, and an old 400W psu (24A on 12v rail) without 8pin or 6pin connectors so I use two molex converters.

The card gives me error 12 if I don't do compaction or error 43 if I use <= 4GB compaction (32bit options).

With 56GB Compaction (36bit) on egpu alone (it asks what to force at 32bit and I choose none) it works! But to use 56GB compaction I have to use a DSDT substitution in setup 1.30test2b as seen i the following commands:

call vidwait 20
call pt MEM writefromfile 1 0xBCFD1000 dsdt.aml
call pci
call chainload mbr

pt MEM.... is the command that writes a dsdt override, that address and and creating the file can be found at the dsdt substitution guide.

I power the laptop and the egpu at the same time, and PEAL2.1b is set to 6.9s delay, and card type 2E, 4E, 8E, 16E on that other switch.

It also plays mp bf3 ultra at 100fps and bf4 utlra with 2x msaa at 70 with hdmi sound. I'm worndering if to post a video?

(look at the addresses)

Some becnhmarks at default clocks (925 core, 1375 mem) and 13.2 Beta 5 Driver.

Vantage.gpu 25644 at default clocks: AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2540M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

3dmark: AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2540M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B (I just figured out 3dmark isn't 3dmark 11 :/)

heaven 1535 (not sure how to get basic and d3d11)?: post-19480-14494996461864_thumb.png

Tribes ascend 100-120fps at highest.

I'm using a older driver so my card is voltage locked at 1.119 so I couldn't get any higher, but

this shappire dual-x is a really great overclocker, it stays at 54c the whole test at 1200/1550.

Here are the latest benchs of 3dmark11 at VDDC 1119 (1.12V):

8268 @ 1000/1425 : AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2540M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

8961 @ 1100/1500 : AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2540M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

8908 @ 1100/1550 : Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Unknown,

9458 @ 1200/1559 : Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Unknown,

3dmark06 :

18891 @ 1200/1550: AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2540M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

What else can I test? bitmining? (3dmark06 gives me error). I can try BF3, and soon BF4. EDIT: Added BF4/BF3 videos:

The following are with driver 13.11 beta 9.4 (I had a driver problem that I couldn't resolve so I said WTH, went ahead and installed win8 instead of win7 :o)

BF4 Custom (All ultra but 2x MSAA), Map "Operation <something>" on unparked cores win8.1:

BF4 Custom (All ultra but 2x MSAA), Map "Operation <something>" on parked cores win8.1:

BF4 Custom (All ultra but 2x MSAA), Map "<something> highway" on unparkedcores win8.1:

BF3 Ultra (Operation firestorm) on unparked cores win8.1:

BF3 is crashing my pc for some reason, didn't have much time to figure it out yet..

I actually remember having a little better more constant performance on my win7 with one if the drivers I tested (I had like 5 in the mix) but I don't remember the exact one.

I'd like to stress that this is entire built is from used parts,

1) 2560p at 380$ shipped (60$ international shipping),

2) 7970 at 257$ (we have high taxes here),

3) old 400W from relative unknown company (ezcool) salvaged from a old pc, you can probably buy a equal one at 25$-50$

4) Ordered a 2630QM at 120$ shipped from ebay, should get here soon.

Then you get a really kick ass portable machine for around 750$.

Considering I sold my old 6870 card which was just unused at my desktop to get this 7970 at 142$, and I'll sell this cpu at around 70$,

I would have only spent 500$!

At first I wanted to buy a sager W230ST, which would have cost me 1428$ shipped here with a cheapest quad core,

which is heavier, has worse batter life & built, and even less resale value (where I live) ,and I got this awesome laptop, which compared to

the sager just has a worse screen but its fine for my uses, I use my 23" at home, and I never use the laptop outside.

So this is a awesome bargain and I would lik thank this community and especially to Tech Inferno Fan for it.

I've got a lot of people here interested in egpus as well.

Now I just need to build a encloser and hope this setup stays stable :)</something></something></something>
