Hi , So I have Alienware 17 880M i74910MQ 240W 120hz display Windows10. Wanted to upgrade it to gtx1060 here is what I did:- SSD Already on GPT unlocked the bios set the video mode to PEG Installed the new gpu (1060) then restart didn't boot gave me 8 beeps and black screen boot mode set to uefi it booted after couple tries the only step now needed is a modded driver <--- I'm not sure if I did this right I get the above message, when I went to device manger, I selected show hidden devices (cuz Display Adapters was not showing)and it showed 880M transparent I uninstalled it thinking that I would help me install 1060 instead then the Display Adapters gone forever. tried restart many times no good , the GPU is detected in bios tho, however not in device manger anymore I don't know where to go from here? Any support would be appreciated Thank you

Hi, I have an old Dell Alienware M17R3 (2011 built, “new”A12 Bios). Back in 2014 my GTX580M broke, so I decided to put in a GTX680M, which lasted till recently. Now I’m stuck again with 8 beeps and the LCD not turning on. When I remove the card and switch the laptop on, the LCD at least turns on, so I guess it’s a faulty GTX680M. Now...back then people suggested not to go for a GTX580M due to bad thermal values, but as I’m not really using the Laptop for gaming anymore, wouldn’t a GTX480M possibly be a better alternative that lasts even longer? I heard that GTX700M’s could fit in as well, but people reported non fixable sound issues plus thermal issues. Any ideas?

Hello everyone I own an alienware 17 r1 with windows 8.1, upgraded to a gtx 970m. I did the upgrade in december and worked fine with the driver 359.0 that i modified back then following the video guide down there. Today I decided to upgrade the driver to the last version, 364.71, and followed the same steps. After the reboot required by the installer, i see the Alienware logo and then the screen turns black, with only the mouse cursor visible. If i manually shut down the computer and then boot it the same thing keeps happening. I re installed windows 8.1 and tried with the same procedure to install previous version of the dirver, but non of them worked, even the 359 that worked perfectly until this morning. I did all this with windows fresh installed and no updates. I can't download custom drivers from j95 post since I haven't posted enough on the forum. Can anyone please help me?
