  1. Hello Everyone,

After a year of testing on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, I can confirm that it break the gaming performance and experience on both Nvidia optimus and AMD Enduro.

    I tried on three differents Laptop P170EM (i7-3740MQ + AMD 7970M), P170SMA (i7-4910MQ + Nvidia GTX 880M), (MSI i3-3110M + Nvidia 640M).

For exemple Guild Wars 2, on Windows 8 and 8.1, the FPS and GPU usage is heavely fluctuacting the game is not stable ( I tried different driver set and all kind of configuration).

I went back to Windows 7 on the P170SMA, and now everyhting works fine, Guild Wars 2 on max settings is rock stable a 60 FPS all the time even in town!!!!.

Normally Windows 8 and 8.1 should bring a better support for the dual graphic card system, this is nothing but bullshit!!.

After one year of trouble to play and use my laptop correctly I can confirm that player using their Laptop should tsay away from Windows 8 and 8.1.

    @Prema,

is it possible to implement the CSM support too choose which component should run with UEFI or legacy rom on the P170EM, There is a bug in the clevo bios whenever I use the non UEFI Bios and install Windows 7, I get blue screen with all the Intel AHCI driver I tested.

If I used the UEFI Bios, I can see windows 7 Installation loading, but then as the GPU Bios is in UEFI I cannot see the installation screen to choose the drive and being the installation (blind Installation).

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,

  2. Interesting... Do you think it is the same with W230SS? On AC I think it's at full power, clocks stay high, no lags and so. But on battery, CPU maxes @1.4GHz and Intel HD Graphics loses it's turbo which is annoying because with AC it runs old games quite good.

Well, I had this issue on a P170SM-A and on a P170EM, both laptop are runnin only on AC and I removed the battery (I have a UPS).

Try to remove the hotkey, use the maximum performance profile in power options and also use this tool to lift some limitation : https://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php

Let me know if you see the differences, but on my case I did some a huge improvement.

  3. Hello Guys,

Fater testing the modded bios from Prema a few month and also the Modded vbios for my 880m gtx everyhting is zorking fine.

I also found something really interesting for all the clevo user :

If you want maximum performance with you clevo please do not use the hotkey from clevo, I will epxlain why:

When installing the Hotkey it is asking you to reboot in order to finish to install it, why? : Because it reboot to load the newly installed driver for the hotkey.

After playing for a while with the hotkey manager I was not able to have the same gaming performance as when I was not using it, and I tried for hours to firgure out why, I was change the profile to maximum performance or game mode with no effect.

I was searching everywhere and optimizing windows 8.1 like made, the drivers were already update to date.

Then I uninstall the hotkey, and the issue was gone, instead of a 140 watt limitation I was able to use the full power of the laptop around 180 to 190 watt, no lags in game everything was working fine.

All of the component are using the default clock.

Please try on your side and let me know how it is, as this was a really strange issue.

I also have a question for you Prema, have you seen new stock bios for the clevo P17xSM-A?

The weekend is coming at last.

  4. THX for your donation! Always helps to push it up my ToDo list. :)

Ha ha :), that is nothing, you work is really worth a donation, you saved my P170EM (still working fine, gona give it to my parents).

I think that I can talk on behalf of everybody to say that you are doing an amazing work on the bios!

  5. It's pretty easy. You just have to disable ULPS through the registry.

    Run regedit.exe and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Control > Class > {4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} > 0001..." and change the value of "EnableULPS" to 0.

There might be the EnableULPS option in more numbered files, check them all just to make sure.

I used MSI Afterburner to OC.

I already disabled ULPS, and I can't oc my 7970m, even with afterburner, i tried to change the option in the general settings, nothing worked so far.

Did I need to change the config file to do that, I am using the 3.0 beta 14.

I can even flash the bios :/

  6. Prema you rocks, I can now use T1 timing with your new bios!!! :20_003:, the bck is unlocked, the computer is running smoother than ever.

We just have to wait for intel and amd to fixe their drivers once and for all, and I'll be able to enjoy my computer without any issues.

  7. I understand, thank you for your help Prema.

If you want I can help you to try to unlock the menu for the P170EM bios, it could be interesting to see what we can do for this serie, but really clevo should really think to open the bios menu, for the price we pay it will really help to be able to configure everything according to our spec and taste.

I made an experiment with My P170EM, it has a 3630qm and a 7970M, I removed the back plate and using a Coolermaster Notepal U stand I placed the two fan directly in front of the GPU and CPU radiator, and the CPU reach only 64°c during Guild wars 2 gaming session and the GPU 62°c, this is awesome :Banane55:

  8. Get to 5 useful posts and PM me. ;)

    Hehehe ok.

I think that it would be interesting to have to version of the bios one with 1T the second with 2T timing, the main issue with 1T command rate; is that not every system likes it when using four sticks of RAM, the performance gap between the command rate almost nul, better choose stability vs performance, a Clevo by itself is alraeady powerfull enough.

What shocks me, is that there are no options to configure the bios properly like on a desktop motherboard, it is extremely desapointing especially for a computer that worth more than 1500€, I know that your are planning to make the differents menu visible, can't wait to see results.

  9. I flashed to the version 1.02, and now the ram can't pass the first mem test, it only produce one error to when it reach 11276mb of the ram, I will have to check by removing 2 modules and see if the error occure also. When I flashed to the latest version I loaded the optimal default and rebooted the computer, I think that it is the best way to avoid any problem.

The other issues that I ancountedred can be reproduced with all bios.

edit : OK after 2 passes of memtest86+ 4.2.0 everything is fine, the issue may come from the T1 timing or a lack of ram voltage for that kind of timing. How can I check the current ram voltage to see if there are no variation?

Strange thing, the BCLK is always at 99 mhz so the ram is at 1596Mhz how can I change this?

  10. Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank you Prema for you bios mod, I can't wait to see the new version.

I have strange issue to report.

    I bought my laptop P170EM at Pwnpc.co.uk

    I installed 4*4Go of DDR3 1600 Mhz Cl9 Kingston, a Samsung 840 pro 128gb and a momentus XT 500go.

I installed everything, and used the latest version available at www.stations-driver.com.

However I cannot use a version of IRST higher than 11.2.0.1006 if I do use the latest 12.5 IRST driver or other, it give me a BSOD at boot (Bad_System_Configuration), I have tried everything but the issue is the same, can the issue come from the Samsung 840 pro? (I haven't tried to install windows on another hard drive/SSD).

When I am trying to use the raid mod, after I save the changes and reboot, I cannot pass the bios boot screen, to do that I have to remove the optical driver (TSST Corp SN-208BB with an HP firmware), I flashed the optical drive to the latest version but the issue stay the same.

When doing a Memtest, the first pass is ok, but the second pass find on error, is it possible to increase the ram voltage to 1.50 to 1.51 to avoid stability issue, when I was using a desktop computer and T1 timing I had to increase the ram voltage a little for stability.

The last issue is a bit strange, when rebooting the laptop sometime it shutdown it self, then start, and shutdown again, then finally reboot, is anyone have any idea of what can cause that?

I have played a lot of hour on the computer without any issue (Darksoul with DSfix, Guild Wars 2).

Can anyone recommand me which version of vbios I have to use for my 7970m? I think that I read somewhere that some vbios have issue, and how to find the vbios version?

Thank you in advance for all your help.
