  1. Apparently my system will get to me sometime next week. That said, do we have a "to do" list anywhere (or on the internet) for the m18x as far as drivers and recommended configurations go? So far I'm just guessing uninstalling dell bloatware and installing the latest ATI drivers to be my only stops, is there anything else I should keep in mind or download before I hop into games?

  2. I'm about as well-versed as a gerbil when it comes to the RAM upgrade options for the m18x. I got 2 DIMMS 8GB 1333 through Dell, if I wanted to add more, would I be able to? I recall reading on one of the forums that the 16+ option was for the 1600 speed ram only or some such, or was it my imagination? If not, then I might as well get some from newegg too.

  3. Just got my order in. I don't know if they're able to do much of a discount or anything, meh... I only got like 3% Student discount :/

2720QM/8GB RAM/500GB SSD Hybrid/Dual 6970s/BluRay/Backpack/2yr warranty for $3370. I don't think I'm able to get a better deal though given my status and all that (international student).

    Delivery date June 7, ouch!

  4. Perfect set of replies. I'll try to squeeze an SSD option in, can always just use storage for cheap (80 bucks for externals, etc) later. Thanks guys!

Edit: I assume the "SSD Hybrid" option that's been popping up in these config sites is a middle of the road option or the like?

  5. I don't get the need to close those threads, it's not as if the notebook isn't (hopefully, probably) launching tuesday.

Newbie question that was brushed aside in those other forums, is a SSD really that big a difference in performance in games? I know that in theory you can access data faster and your data will never be truly lost, but in games and such is it worth it?

  6. Got a link to the price drops gabe? Or at least how much the drop was?

    Thanks

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

Basically the canadian website has it for 1999.99 plus the improvement to xfire 6970s is less than a third than it was for the US site, so that's why I mentioned pricedrops :)

I guess it's all up in the air. I know that as a student I'll save every last dollar I can, but I want/need a mobile powerhouse since I travel a lot and this G73 isn't cutting it.

  7. Hi GabrielZ, welcome to the forums :D

As for ordering, no, it's not available yet. It's supposed to launch sometime in May, so I don't like your chances of seeing one close to your birthday...

    Thanks!

Yeah I just noticed the link went dead, yet I saw that people here and some other forums were saying they were ordering it and all so I was curious. They dropped the price on the 6970's on the canadian site though, so here's hoping for a good adjustment on the US end too. :)

I'll probably be out of the country until the end of May though so I guess it won't matter much anyway!

  8. Been following the threads here awhile. What's the likelyhood on getting a semi-okay deal that doesn't go to 1-2% max through EPP on this new model? I have to admit I was willing to shell out $3k for it but I'm a little disappointed with how much (or how little) it will get me. :(

Also, are people actually able to order it right now? I'd love to get it delivered near/on the week of my birthday (may 19) if I end up buying it, but we'll see I suppose!
