  1. Yess! Just when I felt running out of ideas I managed to get it work somehow.

So my rig is a 2560p@i7-2760qm and 8GB rams - I am not sure its important or not...

    I use an oem Sapphire 7970 with pe4l 2.1b.

I hade to make dsdt override. Got the table loaded like kizwan showed, so no need to bothering with that more.

Needed to have an egpu clean W7 64bit (I just deleted my previous driver tries, so no reinstall needed).

Adapter in x2/x4... and in 6,9sec delay switch. (I am not sure I need to plug and power it first, may be a hot plug in setup1x takes it too. I will edit it, if can make more simple.)

So let past bios and arrive into setup1x. I tried several forms, but it seems the 32-bitA compression on egpu worked me.

When W7 stands up it says no more error on my 7970, and AB says it has a 13.9 catalyst. Its almost the latest. So I don't do anything with that.

Run a couple tests, later will add some more:

    13.9 Catalyst, 925/1375 : AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2760QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

    13.9 Catalyst, 1100/1450 : AMD Radeon HD 7970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2760QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 162B

Sadly AB lets me only push it until 1125 MHz core. It is also voltlocked. But it takes it too.

It took me about a half day to make it work, but I was curious about this override stuff. I try to help a lot of people with this egpu stuff in my home country, but could not really say anything personally when it came to this point.

Round2: The sapphire vga was bought used, freezed 2 times within a day during normal web surfing, so I decided to give it back.

The new candidate - an asus DCII 280X (very serious one, I had same DCII 660Ti, but that looks only a toy compared to this) - has already bought too.

First kind surprise, that I did not have to do anything special. Just plug-n-play, the same startup method worked it too.

It's core can be clocked up to 1,5GHz in AB, so I might try to sneak to the top of the list. :D

Quick run at 1200/1600: 9909 GPU Score

    More benches coming soon!

  2. HI guys,

Please help me. I want to make a 7970 run with my HP 2560p. First I get error 12, then with 32bit compaction I get error 43.

I am on that DSDT override now, but it simply doesn't want to work. I have downloaded many rar's and read through almost every related link here, but yet do not get the hang of it.

I have reached to make a dsdt.dsl file, copied the QWORD phase but cant compile it to the needed .asl file. frown.png.pagespeed.ce.k7JIVwiiFa.png

    Here is what I get:

    9940d1386691847-dsdt_error.jpg

How could I solve that error?

  3. Hello,

I have an issue with my EGPU.Here is my config :

    Sony vaio SVZ

    PE4L v2.1b

    GTX 780

    diy setup

I have the same configuration than mickjoa for the setup of nando , and i succesfully set up the drivers 320.18.

The card is correctly installed , i can have a dual screen with hdmi cable connected , and can O/C the card with msi afterburner.

But when i lauch a bench , BSOD ... and the pc restart.

With 3Dmark11 , it crashes just before the first screen of the first bench...

Do you think it's can be the psu ? I've modded the psu but i'm not sure of the connection :/

    What do you think ?

    Thanks :)

I think you use an ATX psu. Should check the 12v rails' output. That little titan is a quite hungry beast. It is possible, that simply cant get enough juice under load.

Of course there can be plenty of other problem, but try to close out one after the other.

  4. I have a quick question guys!

Right now I am using a GTX 660 with a 203W xbox PSU, but prices are started to fall, and the Ti or 670 models become more tempting upgrades. But will they be fine with the xbox psu? I know that their factory tdp limits is beyond, but if I start to OC them, they might kill it. More so I might reach its reasonable limit with the Ti so, there is not even point to use a 670. On the other hand, the real power consumption of this cards are misteries, because the given max TDP is just a factory number, without much explanation.

    So, what is your opinion?

A: Even 670 should be fine with OC?

B: I could safely OC only a Ti until the psu's reasonable power limits.

C: I should not go over the 660 with this psu.

By the way I have not posted my desk and bench yet.

    Here is a 3DM11 GPU Score: 6262

Tomorrow I am going to take a shot from the desk too.

  5. I have tested my PE4L v2.1b (100cm) version with every setting I know.... the adapter can't establish a connection. Even forcing in Gen1 doesn't work... but my old PE4H v2.4a works perfect. ^^ I wrote Bplus Support (Colin) that this can only be a defect... and there is simply no other explanation. Since more than 3 weeks there is no solution... I'm very disappointed of their customer service.
  6. It's possible that the new B cable has a better connector design. Maybe the cable is a tighter fit so that there is more pressure on the contacts. When I used an eGPU the mHDMI cables did seem to slide in easy after the initial resistance to pop them in at all.

This would be great news if it works. If anyone wants to do x2 and x4 links on a 6 or 7 series chipsets just let me know and I'll show you how to do it.

    Sure! Show it please!

  7. Means that old PE4H 2.4 will be resurrected as the likely enthusiast's choice from the eGPU adapters being sold by BPlus. It's certainly my favorite one. Means having a x4 2.0 capable platform for exploration too.

How would you make x4 with i-gen chipsets? As far as I read on your guide it is impossible to make x2E on recent intel setups.

  8. The PE4L 1.5 can only run reliably at Gen1 speed. So first point if the E5430 expresscard slot is running at the default Gen2 speed then he'll see symptoms as you describe. Check the bios for a setting. If one doesn't exist then use the Setup 1.x software to do this.

Second point is he'll need to hotplug the GT470 after boot so the iGPU becomes the primary and the eGPU the secondary. That is a pre-requisite of the NVidia driver to engage the Optimus features of x1 pci-e compression and internal LCD mode.

Problem with that is there is now a greater need for pci-e space and if your system is anything like a Dell E6230 which I attached a GTX660 here then it too may boot with TOLUD=3.5GB. Thankfully the bios did change that to be 3.0GB upon booting with the eGPU detected. If yours remains stuck at 3.5GB then you will need to do the DSDT override to provide sufficient pci-e space to host the GTX470.

Setting the EC to gen1 solved everything. It goes well inside out handsomely. Much thanks for your advise!

  9. Anyone has experience on Latitudes with Ivy?

A friend of mine has an E5430 and an older 1.5 PE4L. The first vga he bought was a hd5870. It was good on external, but he wanted to use the internal display. So I advised him to get a Fermi/Kepler. He changed to a gtx 470 now, but nothing works.

The external lcd crashes soon after win boot. If using the internal then he is able to recognize the vga, it is shown in the control panel, but the nv CC can not see it. Neither the gpuz.

    Any advise?

The card is good. It was tested in a desktop machine.

I think the 1.5 PE4L is also good, since it went with the hd5870 earlier.

Is it something he should do with the setup.1x may be?

  10. Guys!

Any knows if I can use that usb port on the pe4l adapter as usb hub working beside the egpu? I think that usb 2.0 would not carve out that much bandwith that it would be significant. Thanks for your answers!

The USB link on an expresscard/PE4L/PE4H are separate to the pci-e lines. Using it has no affect on the pci-e bandwidth.

So you say I can use it freely without any penalty? Awsome! :)

  11. The new Virtu MVP2.0 version 3.0.104 installer is once again checking if it's a mobile or desktop system. Upon seeing a mobile system it bombs out with error below:

    mvpfailedinstalled.jpg

Need someone to run regshot, run the installer on a desktop system with a SB/IVB iGPU, then repackage the binary + registry edits to (hopefully) once again get the Virtu MVP mobile product out of it. That would be a better packaged then the hack I did previously here where unfortunately regshot didn't work on that desktop surrogate system.

So it means that lucid wants the virtu exclusive to Origin among notebooks? Thats quite a shame. I thought they make it available on all platform by started selling directly...

Thanks for the fast testing anyway!

Edit: I have asked around some other forums to get thoose regshots.

  12. there is this bios update, should i update it? i scared that it will be back to 0 again -_-

Sure. It should affect your egpu at all, just your rig becomes better.

I have an E6420 and I use the setup1.x program. Its good for this notebook because it stops the boot process right after the bios loaded, so I know when to plug it on, and it will work on gen2 speed surely. I was thinking about making it automated, but It is not a big deal and makes me sure about the system.

  13. Can anyone please confirm what I am about to get myself into is okay for GEN 2 support?

    (1) one of PE4L 2.1B or PE4H-EC060A V3.2 (if Bplus ever puts it back on their page....?)

    (2) Geforce 660ti

    (3) A Power supply to correctly power the thing.

    I have a HP ProBook4730s. SPecifications are here: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06b/321957-321957-64295-3955552-3955552-5060893-5173291.html?dnr=1

Briefly, it's a sandy bridge machine with expresscard 2.0 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and 8 GB of ram.

HP 4530s was a recommended candidate due to SB, upgradeable screen, nice workmanship and good price. I think same goes to 4730s aswell. You can hardly go wrong with that PE4L. :)

  14. Hi Folks!

I have read through the old nbr articles and keep tracking this new one too for a time now. I have met it when I was in a dilemma of a new notebook purchase. I wanted the higher carftmanship of the business class, but also the usually higher 3D performance of the consumer ones. So far workstations seemed the only choice, but in my country they are so much overpriced from the start, and their later upgrade-ability is so unreliable, that I could not make my mind to choose them. Then I met this eGPU stuff, and the picture suddenly got cleared. :)

So I got an E6420 (upgraded to i7-2760qm) with a PE4L adapter and a GTX 570. I wanted an NV card, because I do not use external display and setting up radeon seems a little complicated and uncertain to me. May be now with the upcoming official Lucid MVP things going to change..

Sadly, my 570 started to act strangely, so I had no choice but to sell. Now looking for its successor. I am thinking on a GTX 660 now, but would like to see first how that new virtu changes things,

Anybody know something what could I expect? When will it release so on..?
