What is your laptop model and specs? Try to rollback update, reinstall centre or use another program if you can.

Was you having any temperature issues with 980? If you can, try check it on another laptop. Look for any physical damage on the mxm card itself.

Trying to use the Mobile hotspot on the PC. It gets created and is connected, but when I switch the WiFi on my Android phone I'm getting the display saying it's "connected without internet" see the screenshot.

Try to create hotspot using command prompt, and update\rollback drivers, if that didn't help, it mostly hardware problem, and only fix is replacing network card.

In much games cpu will be the bottleneck, but i think if you use some DSR, and overclock RAM it will be fine.

Here is some example with 7970m, and with that card in some games you will get CPU bottleneck.
