1. Today I finished modifying the BIOS for G75VW overvolting GTX670M in our notebook. I increased voltage on the GPU in the P0 profile (Turbo Boost) at 0.02 V. GPU once easily overclocking over 870! On the 881 appeared some small artifacts in the form of multiplecolored dots. Fell back to 860, and ran 3DMark 2011 at 1 hour the cycle. Everything is fine! There are no artifacts, and temperature on the GPU is not rise above 80 degrees. Results 3DMark 2011:

GPU at 870 - 4239 with no artifacts!

GPU at 860 - 4190 with no artifacts! Stable run 1 hour 3DMark2011. The maximum temperature on GPU - 80 degrees.

Now i think flash in the BIOS 850/1800(900), and so stop in this.

I made this overvolting specially only for P0 status (Turbo Boost). In other states (2D,Video,...) video card running at its standard voltages and frequencies, changing them in their own table.

Hey Klem, how did you increase the voltage??

Edit: Sorry, I read further and realized that you modified the BIOS for overvolting. Congrats BTW! Jeez, I can't believe you broke the 4000 point barrier. Not going to lie, I am really jelly.

  2. Congratulations! What version of BIOS are you using? Where did you get (if you can link). There really is the memory settings? Corsair Vengeance memory or Kingston Hyper X?

Hi Klem, I just recently flashed to the modified BIOS offered from svl7, on techinferno, but prior this I was using the a modded BIOS created by one of the members from the mydigitallife forums. I'll scan through to see if I can find the link. As for the type of ram I'm using, I'm very Corsair-pro as they've only provided me with great results whereas it's a hit/miss with Kingston products (Others may have better results with Kingston; I'm only speaking from my own personal experience).

  3. Don't worry, we all start somewhere. :)

As far as the three versions, it's about the release date in the following order - 3dm06, vantage, 3dm11, then the brand new 3dmark which has three tests, the one you'll mostly see is called fire strike.

They get progressively more demanding as you move through the years and some take a certain level of hardware to work properly.

3dm11 for instance requires DX 11 capable hardware to run.

Fell free to ask any more questions you may have. ;)

Thanks taking the time in explaining the benchmark applications for me, I really appreciate it! I'll do my due diligence and use the search function to avoid asking any questions that have already been answered.

EDIT: I just finished tinkering with my nVidia control center and re-ran 3Dmark 11:

I stopped increasing my GPU clock speed immediately after began to appear; anything over 800mhz, even an increase of 1mhz to 801mhz, causes black ripples artifacts to show up. Would there be a way to circumvent the artifacts from appearing? I'd really like to avoid breaking or damaging anything (if I haven't done so already lol).

I just flashed a new ME 8.1.30.1350 and everything is fine. Rebooted and the battery is disconnected and everything is OK. I am on MOD.223.

Ah that's great to hear. A couple of individuals on ROG had issues flashing to a modified BIOS and it seemed like the root cause/issue pertained to host write/read access. I just thought of throwing that out here to see if it may help anyone here on techinferno.

  5. For someone relatively uncomfortable with disassembling their laptop, do you think this would best (quicker, and less of a hassle) to have it sent out to have it done? My G75VW is heating up rather quickly now and I'm assuming it's due to the thermal paste dissolving.
